I'm in!

Neverinamonthofsundays · 01/09/2023 10:51

I have so overspent this year in general but finally I am getting money back next week that I have been waiting on so that will cover things like car and home insurance as I prefer to pay them annually and I need to stop going to the shop.

Actually I think I might go back to planning meals and doing an online shop all this month. Might be better for me, save a few quid.

I'm in. We really need to do no spend month. Did food shopping today came to 69 but got quite a lot at aldis. Going to take kids to library today as a free activity. Hoping to spend nothing today. Got a few things I want yo get for winter but will wait to October to save up. Need to get a dehumidifier and was thinking of a ceiling airer.

Neverinamonthofsundays · 01/09/2023 11:37

I have just done an online shop for delivery tomorrow cos if I go for collection I will suddenly think of something else to buy and go back in - I am THAT bad. Total is estimated at 67euro. Not leaving the house today as have all holiday laundry and stuff to do and we have bits in the house to get us through.

I'm joining in too!!
August was a difficult month - still waiting on DH's pension to come through - been two years and still no payments (long story and very frustrating!!) and because of that have been whistling through my redundancy money when really I just want to hang on to it and really hammer the credit card debts. Oh well!!

On the plus side though Xmas club is due to come through soon, so £400 is stashed ready, also adding little bits to Nectar and Iceland each time I go in.

Had a few NSD in August but that flew out the window when we had a couple of days away with DD, SonIL and grandkids - it was fun though - needed that!!

Never I couldn't fill my car yesterday as it was in the garage and the excise duty went back to normal today Sad

BaconAndAvocado · 01/09/2023 19:13

Great idea!

Going to try and have a no spend September.
Food, bills, petrol and mortgage ✅
Got some birthday money left for treats!

Have also been putting money in my Asda Christmas cash pot, now have £88!

Doing a boot sale next week...

CornishTiger · 01/09/2023 23:33

So before I join….. is this frugal or no spend cos I know there are some things we need still for school and it’s my sons birthday.

xogossipgirlxo · 01/09/2023 23:34

I updated my excel spreadsheet tonight and got my sums for August:

food 246- not great considering we had 70 quid voucher as well
cats 59
toiletries, cleaning products 71

And I had totally forgot about the increase and spent 74 euro on mine yesterday. I also now have the car booked in on Monday to the garage as the wipers have seized up and sure it needed a service anyway. In one hand and out the other.

A spreadsheet is a great idea. I never thought of it. I went out for diesel, filled the car, got sidetracked by the child I brought with me and got him a kfc cos he has missed kfc while on holidays (poor poor deprived child) and then spent a further 20 quid inside the garage on wine for us adults and snacks for the others as they dont like kfc. So all in all I spent 110euro yesterday. My tesco shopping money has not come out of the account yet although all other bills have and I still have a few quid in there which is good considering we are only back from holiday but I may hush my beak because everytime I think I am on the up something pops up.

Spent 20euro today on beers for the garden this evening as the sun has finally come out.

I've had a massively spendy summer with 2 festivals and a uk seaside trip. The 2nd festival in particular did me in as I was travelling there on foot so couldn't load the car up with food and booze. Of which I must have spent at least £200 whilst there.

Instead of buying new clothes, of which I don't really need any I just WANT, I'm doing a vinted swap shop with my daughter, rule is we have to sell some clothes first then can use the credit to buy new ( second hand) stuff off vinted or ebay.

I'm also trying to socialise less. Went out last night for what was supposed to be s gentle one but still ended up paying £40 on booze ( rounds) £20 on taxis so that's £60 I needn't have spent...

VanWeezer · 02/09/2023 17:09

I am going to join in too.

Had a very spendy summer holidays. Had lots of days out with the family. Some costing lots of money. The kids seemed to both have growth spurts so spent loads on we uniform and clothes.

I think I have enough money without going into the overdraft, I just have to manage what I spend for the next few weeks

Have saved up £300 for Christmas during the year already so don't need much more. I use Monzo and they have pots for different expenditure which helps massively.

Nothing spent today. Have a day out planned tomorrow. We have already paid for tickets, taking a packed lunch. As we're going with MIL she is happy to pay for petrol as we have already paid for the entrance fee.

Hotmalibu94 · 02/09/2023 18:23

Hi all! I'd like to join too 😁
Been spending way too much recently so going to try a low-spend September until we go away at the end of the month, bit of a UK touring break 😅
So far my aims are to stop going to the shop so often, and stop online spending so much.

I put all my petrol on my credit card and pay it off each month, so that doesn't really come into my budget.
I get paid and most of my money goes straight into my joint account and joint savings with DH and most of the rest goes to my savings. I give myself £200 spending money which seems loads but actually just goes 😳

Hoping to have some of that £200 left by my week off 😅
Have started a budgeting excel spreadsheet to try and be more mindful of where my money is going.

CornishTiger · 03/09/2023 08:40

Doing good so far.

Went to library yesterday to collect book I’d reserved instead of buying.

Managed to go into Asda for a parcel collection yesterday and didn’t buy anything. My husband however popped in later and I’m not sure if he got any extras for us or just got what neighbour needed.

Did a click and collect order grocery order too and I reduced what was in trolley from £130 to £85. Earned £3.40 by paying with Asda vouchers purchased through Air time rewards. And I’ll hit the Sept bonuses on the app if £1 and £2 and I spilt that £85 into smaller vouchers.

Just done my first few listings on vinted.

Still need to get school pe trainers, pe shorts and more school shirts (£21 for two!!!) so next couple of days will be expensive.

CornishTiger · 03/09/2023 08:52

Also because I’ve been ill the last few days and seem to be generally run down I was researching vitamins. However I’ve held off getting them ( they are expensive and recommended by a friend) and found some I bought last time I was run down. They aren’t quite what I want. I’m awful at remembering to take pills and self care! So I’m taking those and only when they are gone I’ll get the ones I want.

NursieBernard · 04/09/2023 07:49

I'm in, I have massively overspent in July and August. Our savings have taken a hit helping DS1 move into his first place and the summer holidays have cost more than I wanted.

I do have a head start on Christmas savings with £600 in my Plum account that has stayed untouched for now! Although I won't spend more than this on Christmas, I need to cut back and reign in the spending so that it stays untouched.

Today's plan is SUP at the beach with DS3, so just need to pay for parking and an ice cream, hopefully under £10 for the day.

SecretShambles · 04/09/2023 08:41

I've booked a haircut today, left it ad long as I could but booked the wet cut at £26 rather than the usual cut and blow at £46 , £20 just to dry my hair seems excessive.

Also stocked up on coffee cans at £1.25 as I'm away with work a lot and usually go the Starbucks route but they are £4 at the services.

Unfortunately I can't drink instant so it's the real deal or the cans for me.
I'll be going through my autumn wardrobe soon, determined not to buy anything until the Jan sales although I has a £45 credit in my boden account which will be spent on a treat as I can't convert very it back to real money.

Neverinamonthofsundays · 05/09/2023 10:24

Ok today is my day one. Yesterday I spent money on a takeaway and a few other bits and now we have a full fridge/freezer/cupboards etc and the car is full with diesel. I have no money in the account as I transferred it all to savings account so i cannot spend money today at all. Drastic measures and all that but had to be done.
