What do people do at the weekend?

I'm genuinely intrigued as to what people do at the weekend?

I live at home with my parents, have a boyfriend he lives at home with his family as we can't afford to buy atm. I am currently recovering from being in hospital. I went out for the first time in a while to a local shopping centre on Friday mid morning and it was heaving. Struggled to find a parking space, so many people were out, queues everything you name it.

Which I didn't get because all I hear on the news is everyone's struggling due to COLC / bills etc

Now based on this what are people doing at the weekend? If on a Friday the shopping centre is already heaving with people eating shopping.

I also need inspiration of things to do as I have no idea.

I go to the gym on Friday evening and first thing both days at the weekend.

Laundry, pottering around the house/garden. Relax, might go for a walk or meet a friend for coffee or lunch. Once the weather warms up I walk in the hills (cold induced asthma stops me in the winter) instead of going to the gym one of the days.

Reading or working on my uni course.

I also enjoy making things if they have a purpose, current project is 10 new cushion covers, making piping in fabric to co-ordinate with my curtains.

Watching TV, I rarely watch it in the week, it is 8pm by the time I sit down.

Sometimes, like today, I have an afternoon nap and do nothing much at all. I need to put clean sheets on my bed, that's it for today!

Shopping never features, I prefer shopping online and have my food shopping delivered.

Generally cleaning and visiting family.
This weekend I got up, had some breakfast, then vacuumed downstairs, washed kitchen floor and did bathroom sink and 2 toilets, then got dressed and went to meet my friends for a latte at McD while they had breakfast. Bought some milk at Poundland, which is across from McD.
Picked my husband up from work as it was raining then stopped at Iceland while he went and got a few bits.
Got back and kids were up. Hoovered upstairs. Started on deep clean of bathrooms, behind toilets and sink, floors etc.
Kids made chocolate crispy cakes for some sale after church tomorrow. Went for fish (well, kebab) and chips, came home and ate that.
Went to my mums, changed her bed and did a bit more cleaning there.
Got back, went for a walk with ds, had tea and kids sorted dishwasher. DH is in the bath. Kids are somewhere upstairs; DD attempted to play Happy birthday on the piano, complained that the music for Lord of the Dance wasn't there, then disappeared upstairs, saying she'd be back to watch tv with me shortly but that was 45 mins ago.
Tomorrow church then see my mum again - mostly because I forgot to take my brother's birthday present.
Sometimes we go for a ride on the metro, sometimes we cycle tho right now I don't have a bike.
From time to time we might eat out or have a trip somewhere or go and see other family but it's unlikely we'd hit the shopping centre at the weekend.

Saturday - usually find local events on in the morning and then chill around the house in the afternoon

Sunday - see family

Today I’ve been absolutely knackered as I had a really full on day yesterday so I have planted a tree I was given for Mother’s Day last week in the garden, but if housework - hoovering and mopping, changed the bedding and done two loads of washing. Went to Aldi for the weekly shop then came home and batch cooked all the meals for the next week. Then watched a film with the dc.
tomorrow will be gym, then visiting family for the day. If we’re not meeting people then we usually go for a walk to a nearby cafe as have a drink (and cake) in the afternoon.
the cost of living hasn’t really effected us. Obviously bills have gone up but we are fortunate that we can afford the increase without having to cut back elsewhere.

it’s been really nice reading what everyone else does at the weekend though

Today I cleaned for 2 hours this morning (with 'help' of 5 year old) whilst 2 x teens slept in then skulked in their rooms gaming. DH working all day.
Got 2 loads of laundry done and hung up.
Made an early lunch for us all, sarnies and salad.
Took the dog for a 1.5 hour walk with 5 year old.
Got home, next door neighbour popped over for a cuppa for an hour whilst 5 year old watched TV. Teens still skulking in rooms.
Neighbour left, I got irritated at skulking PJ-wearing teens wasting the day so made them get dressed and kicked them out to go to the Coop for milk (an excuse to force them to get some fresh air, 45 minute round walk). Also made them take the dog who was delighted with her unexpected second walk.
Played cars with 5 year old, read with him for a bit.
Made dinner and ate.
Youngest dc to bed. Couple of games of chess with the teens who both absolutely thrashed me with ease as I'm rubbish 😂

Most Saturdays are the same, Sundays DH is off work so we generally go visiting family, out for food or a day trip somewhere etc.

Today both kids had swimming lessons, and DS had a piano lesson (at home). Rest of the time DH and I did bits of laundry/gardening/life admin while DD and DS played/watched TV. DD and I made banana bread and I made a lasagne for dinner.

Tomorrow we'll have a quiet morning, maybe make pancakes or something. DS has football early afternoon, and DD has a birthday party in the afternoon.

Funnily enough I was talking to DH today about our weekends. We are a bit tied with the activities the kids do as there isn't much opportunity to go out as a family. But on the other hand it breaks up the day, is relatively cheap and predictable, and means individually we all have plenty of downtime which is welcome as we work FT so are all tired by the weekend.

Saturday mornings, I go to my Cub Scouts meeting and try to teach them skills (or in reality, manage the chaos so they don't cause too much mischief). I usually go to butcher and greengrocer on my way home.

Afternoon is spent doing housework, sometimes DIY and maintenance, gardening, sewing repairs, and some work if I get to it. Dh does a lot of taxi-ing for teen Dd as she play hockey goalie so has a massive bag to cart around and often has 2 matches on Saturdays.

We normally cook a decent meal Saturday night and enjoy it with some wine. Followed by a movie.

Sunday I have more housework and work to get on with, I try to get up in time for the long dog walk o the beach (Dh heads out early for that) and we might get a coffee while out. We sort the laundry on Sunday afternoon with a movie/tv on, and Dh does the ironing watching countryfile.

I organise my lunches for Mon/tues and Mon dinner while cooking Sunday dinner.

NotAnotherBathBomb · 26/03/2023 12:44

I work 🙃

CoL crisis and all that

@thirtypl which ideas are you gonna steal?

rattymol · 26/03/2023 16:22

We have loads of shops that have closed down in our town centre. But if you live in a wealthy area nothing will have changed.

Okunevo · 26/03/2023 20:01

This weekend I've done two loads of washing, cleaned the bathroom, mopped the hard floors, had my hair cut, made fried egg baps with mushrooms and tomato both days, cooked a beef casserole and mash to do us three nights, picked nettles and made a litre of nettle tea, went on a woodland walk and foraged for wild garlic, made a small jar of fermented wild garlic then 1.3kg of sauerkraut, watched some Netflix, read some of my book, and wasted too much time on here.

I'm also going for drinks with friends later and we tend to eat out as a couple about once a week. We never go to the cinema I don't think I'd stay awake.

How does the part about falling asleep have a need to be omitted?

Rocknrollstar · 14/02/2025 07:23

Country walk, pub lunch, visit a local market or antique emporium. We like art galleries and museums. Also spend time chilling - reading together, watching tv. Meet up with friends. Walk round a garden centre and have tea.

Saturday, usually online exercise class, while DH goes to the gym. We'll have coffee together and I'll go out for a walk as I like to get fresh air at some point in the day. We have a sport we're both passionate about so often watch that on tv or a few times a year go to watch it live. Sundays, I work but come home and we often have a glass of wine while DH cooks, and finish the rest off with the meal. Often watch TV, but sometimes we play a game. At some point I'll read on both days as I really enjoy that.
