Mine is 9c anyone else's house this cold? I have my electric throw so not really feeling it until i need to do something and I'm straight back under it.
I know they say it's unhealthy but is it really when you're keeping yourself warm?

My downstairs is open plan with an old conservatory. It was 6 degrees in the living room this morning, and my key had frozen in the lock on the inside of the door.

my bedroom is much warmer and I wfh so am mostly living in there, and only having the heating on when my kids are home, as my bill last month, as a single parent, was £350.

Yarrawonga · 09/12/2022 18:15

£255 a month, a bargain? I'd call that unaffordable.

It’s more affordable than what it’s costing me.

OldSchoolCasualty · 09/12/2022 18:31

According the the thermostat in the open ceiling centre of the house it’s 16 degrees, which feels fine! I put a little fan heater on for 5 minutes before I get in bed because it’s currently dropping down to 10 degrees up there but with a hot water bottle it’s fine in bed.
Quick question, do people seriously have the heating on when they’re in bed asleep?!? There’s no central heating connected upstairs yet, but once it is, I’ll probably turn them off!

NewBootsAndRanty · 09/12/2022 18:32

I need a min temp of 18 for health reasons, so yes I do keep the heating on all night if I want to try stay well.

NewBootsAndRanty · 09/12/2022 18:34

Sorry, that was to @OldSchoolCasualty .
My living room temp should ideally be 21.

Roselilly36 · 09/12/2022 18:36

Just put ours up to 22, going to be -5 tonight.

Bunce1 · 09/12/2022 18:46

Sitting room is 19 and climbing because of the log burner.

Bedroom is 14…but I like it cold for my bedroom. DH is an effective heater.

Yarrawonga · 09/12/2022 18:48

Why do you put it up when it’s colder outside?

Roselilly36 · 09/12/2022 18:52

@Yarrawonga 😂 because we are cold, inside.

I have my heating on from 7 am to 10 pm set at 19° and my bill will be £235 for the previous 30 days. Your bill seems very high in comparison, my house certainly is not cold, I am wearing a long sleeved sweat shirt, just that one layer, and have been warm all afternoon sitting on the settee.

Yarrawonga · 09/12/2022 18:59

Fair enough. My heating thermostat keeps the inside at the temperature I set regardless of the temperature outside.

Same here. Well it takes longer to get there but setting it higher won't speed it up.

OldPosterNewUsername · 09/12/2022 19:28

Mine is 6 Celsius.

Cannot use heating.

Dreading going in the bath tomorrow.

Exactly you set the thermostat the boiler will maintain the temperature inside..it may kick in more when you open the door etc

Wronglane · 09/12/2022 19:34

I’m heating my Victorian terrace to 20.5 during day and 17 at night and it’s costing me £330 a month roughly.

Swissnotswiss · 09/12/2022 19:37

I have no heating in our bedroom and it's always 21 degrees or higher. Too bloody warm! The rest of the flat is cooler.

Roselilly36 · 09/12/2022 18:36

That's not how it works...you set the thermostat the boiler does the job to maintain it, despite the outside temperature! It may well cost you more when it's colder outside, even more if you turn it up higher!

Irridescantshimmmer · 09/12/2022 19:42

I put tin foil under my lined woolley hat😁 and wearing a onesie with more layers than a lasagne underneath and I look a sight and a half but I feel warm.

9°c
Its cosy.

GuyFawkesDay · 09/12/2022 19:42

18 on the smart thermostat in the kitchen/diner. It's colder upstairs (crap old windows) from 6-8 and from 3-9 in evening

Oodies are keeping us toastie once it goes off.

Blip · 09/12/2022 20:00

Living room is usually 16-18 and bedrooms around 10 degrees as they are unheated. We do have electric blankets though.

RaininSummer · 09/12/2022 20:09

I have had two hours of heating and it's still only 15 degrees. Turned it off now and under heated blanket with a water bottle but my hands and nose are still cold. Woke up cold last night. It is making my joints hurt and not getting any respite at work as also really cold there

NewBootsAndRanty · 09/12/2022 18:11

I'm experimenting with using a 2.5kwh oil filled radiator in my front room this evening instead of the gas central heating, which I turned off at 5pm. Its dropped from 21 to 20.5 since then, with the heater on full whack..

I've got a 1.5 and it's useless downstairs as I have a living and dining room (old council house) it's really good upstairs though in the bedroom so this is where I'm camped for the winter. And it's cheaper than central heating. I never thought I'd ever need to use an electric heater again!

Redredwinest · 09/12/2022 22:37

Mines was 19 I’ve turned it off my water tank is upstairs in a cupboard so upstairs is always quite warm. Also got my little girl in bed my very own hot water bottle feeling comfortable

NewBootsAndRanty · 09/12/2022 22:43

I'm not sure whether I like it or not Grin
Yesterday between 5 and midnight I used £2.20 of gas on CH heating the hall and front room to 21, and the bathroom on low (radiators in my bedroom went from off to full whack at 11pm as well).

The Heater has used about £1.05 from 5 til half seven. It only seems to maintain a 21° room temp with the REALLY LOUD fan setting too.
