Mine is 9c anyone else's house this cold? I have my electric throw so not really feeling it until i need to do something and I'm straight back under it.
I know they say it's unhealthy but is it really when you're keeping yourself warm?

It’s at 16.4 so heating has just clicked on as thermostat set at 18. I find that the temp drops rapidly at this time, heating is on for couple of hours from 7am.

CoffeandTiaMaria · 09/12/2022 15:46

The thermostat is set at 19°, I really cannot cope with being cold at all. With the log burner lit it’s a cosy 23° at the moment and the radiator is turned off.
I feel the cold really badly (serious heath problems), I’m older and somehow I will cope with the bills.

GreenWhiteViolet · 09/12/2022 15:52

11 right now. I have the heating on for a couple of hours in the evening when everyone's in. I don't feel the cold much and have layers on.

MarshaBradyo · 09/12/2022 15:53

It was 15 but climbing up now as heating is on

So 16.4

antipodeancanary · 09/12/2022 16:01

South east. Ours got down to 13 overnight, but is now 21.

GasPanic · 09/12/2022 16:02

I'm at about 15 today in the living room after burning a fair bit of gas.

TBH I am not so worried about keeping myself warm as keeping the house warm enough to stop the pipes freezing.

I know if it is above freezing outside then there is no chance of this happening. But it's been -3C here and it looks like we are in for a prolonged cold spell.

Em308 · 09/12/2022 16:17

Just discovered an unexpected way to keep warmer today… I’ve hurt my back and currently have a deep heat type sticky pad on it (chemists own brand £3 for 2) which is helping massively with the pain and keeping me lovely and warm!

KnittedCardi · 09/12/2022 16:31

it was 17.5 this morning (we don't put the heating on overnight, never have) and it's been running all day at about 19.5, which is perfect.

Can I just ask a question to those who haven't put on their heating? Did you heat last year? If you did for how long? And if you did, and prices are now double, why don't you just use half as much this year, so you still get some heat in your rooms? I know other prices have gone up, so budgeting is crucial, but to have rooms at 10/15 is awful. Even student DD is keeping her flat at 18c, she has to, rental agreement.

Orangesandlemons77 · 09/12/2022 16:36

18 here, keeping it this way now, have one DS on mock exam leave and studying at home with a cough, have had hardly any heating till December but still paid the direct debit and have saved quite a bit which hopefully will over us until the end of Feb.

Wronglane · 09/12/2022 15:12

20.6. They advise under 18 is unhealthy to live in.

Not being able to afford decent and adequate food is also unhealthy. Or the stress of not making ends meet. We all do what we need to do.

DS and I are lucky to be in heated buildings at work/college 4/5 days a week so low temperatures in the morning and when we first get in in the evening are not a big deal.

Athenen0ctua · 09/12/2022 16:51

@KnittedCardi We are heating, though only in the evening this year so it does work out as considerably less than bringing the house up to temperature only to leave it in the morning. You don't get half the heating for the same money though, as the cost of other energy use has also doubled. I can't power half the fridge, or heat half the hot water

Athenen0ctua · 09/12/2022 16:52

Sorry, phone playing up. I mean what is left for heating is half of last year, minus the increase on costs of other usage that can't be reduced.

Spanielsarepainless · 09/12/2022 16:53

Lucky to be on holiday in a cold area of the UK. Heating was part of our deal. It's currently 20C. Any hotter and I shall have to turn it down.

Athenen0ctua · 09/12/2022 16:55

Oh, and food of course has increased dramatically, which may be eating into money for people's energy budgets.

Noddy21 · 09/12/2022 16:58

I have mine set at 21 through the day and 18 a night, I’m too soft to be cold 🤣

Yarrawonga · 09/12/2022 17:00

I’m in a static caravan. It was 2.2 degrees in my bedroom this morning and actually freezing in the bathroom.

20 degrees now.

According to my Hive app (I'm at work) it was 6, so I've remotely put the heating on! I have a wood burner which I will light as soon as I'm home and that room soon gets toasty but the rest of the house is pretty cold even with the heating on as I'm only running it for a couple of hours in the evening at the moment. Before the current cold snap it was around 12 so that was fine. I'm afraid I am going to have to crack and have the heating on more.

It's OK at weekends if I have the woodburner on from about midday - the heat does permeate the rest of the house. Eventually.

Exactly the same here!

Don’t get be wrong it’s costing a fortune, I was £1100 in credit and they wanted to reduce my direct debit but I said no to cover me for the winter. I pay £256 a month for both and I am on average using around £8.50 a day, that’s me not rationing my heating or using my drier. Hopefully it will all work out with the credit I had and when we get back to the summer months

Yarrawonga · 09/12/2022 17:42

£8.50 a day without skimping seems like bargain to me.

Yarrawonga · 09/12/2022 17:42

Like a bargain.

Athenen0ctua · 09/12/2022 17:57

£255 a month, a bargain? I'd call that unaffordable.

Sunshineismyfriend · 09/12/2022 18:05

My house is 19 but I think it may be wrong as I am absolutely freezing. As soon as kids play date is done my Oodie is coming out!

Blowyourowntrumpet · 09/12/2022 18:09

My living room is 22 degrees, the rest of the house is colder.
I've had enough of being cold and I'm just putting the heating on whenever I want to.

NewBootsAndRanty · 09/12/2022 18:11

I'm experimenting with using a 2.5kwh oil filled radiator in my front room this evening instead of the gas central heating, which I turned off at 5pm. Its dropped from 21 to 20.5 since then, with the heater on full whack..
