How much in credit are you for gas and electricity

Dh told me we are 700 in credit with them.
I don't want the heating on more than an hour a day until winter hits.
What is everyone s situation at this point.

(Tbh I'm wishing for a tropical winter, so I can book a holiday with the leftover credit!)

£4000 in credit? that's quite a claim.

I can't see anyone saying £4,000 so I assume you misread my £1400. I can assure you it's true. With a new DD of over £600 I wouldn't be surprised if it reached £4000 without intervention. We asked for £1200 back on Saturday and they reluctantly agreed but would only drop our DD to £400. We'll be calling every month from now on until they come up with a realistic amount. We haven't used close to £400 of gas and electricity this month and it's November.

I had nearly £700 credit built up on gas & thought I was overpaying, just got quarterly bill which was £600 & my DD had now gone up another £130 a month.
We have an old house which takes a lot to heat but I don't have the central heating on excessively, we all wear jumpers/oodies etc.
The cost is absolutely mental.

I think they go by the last 2yrs. Which was warm /On a lot

But as I’ve reduced it lots - shivers - it’s around the same as I paid last year but for 1/3 less heating as sure was on 3p for ages then 6p now 10p

Readaboutyourself · 05/12/2022 20:55

£750 but we haven’t been billed since July. They haven’t increased our direct debit yet but it must be coming as we’re only paying £150 on 3 bed house & we WFH so heating is on a lot.

777, did last meter reading on 26th.

We are £500 in credit. Last month's gas and electric usage was £185 which is what our monthly DD is.
However, we only put the heating on late Nov and have been putting it on for 4 hours a day in Dec.

We both work from home with Oodies and blankets and don't put it on in the day (just morning for school run and of a night). Dreading having to use more now we've entered cold snap, as it's a 4/5 bed and takes a lot of heating.

About £900. I pay £450 dd a month and last bill came to about £400 which gives me a little leeway for extra heating in January.
I upped the direct debit in stages voluntarily starting months ago when problems were first mentioned.
I give meter readings on the 5th of each month, get actual usage figures in 6th and the dd goes out on 9th. So technically, today the credit is £490 but on Friday it'll be £900 again.

SleepingStandingUp · 07/12/2022 20:02

Just submitted a reading so now just under 1k. Paying £180 and Nov was £140. I'm expecting Dec to top slightly over the 180 as we're away over NY but will need to leave heating on somewhat. January last year was astronomical so I'm keeping that balance topped up until spring

How big is your house??

Athenen0ctua · 07/12/2022 20:08

I've recently found that wearing a wool hat makes an incredible difference. It's 16 degrees, I'm in pyjamas, slippers, and a hoodie, sitting under a blanket, and my veins are up on the backs of my hands.

Those who think they are massively in credit, do you know how much you’ve spent. You may well not be in credit at all.

i am with British Gas. They bill every six months. That means that my account will show I’m in credit for a big chunk of the year because my monthly payments are sitting there on the account but the account doesn’t show the cost of what I’ve used until the billing point when it all gets wiped out.

it’s a stupid system which could easily mean that people who think they’re ok, actually aren’t.

I now ask them for a bill every month. It means that I am in credit but not massively. I spent about £180 last month for example on electricity, my dd is £230. Im about £70 in credit but I’m up to date and know exactly how much I’m spending.

Yes this was me. I posted earlier about having £2000 in credit but then the bill came in November and it’s gone down to £800 in credit. I didn’t realise that’s how it works because to be honest I’ve never checked my account like I do now. I was hoping to withdraw some but I think I will keep it in for the cold months coming up.

teenagetantrums · 09/12/2022 10:07

We are about £300 in credit. But our smart gas meter isn't smart so we are not being billed for gas unless l send a reading. I haven't done that for last month so probably alot less as we have had heating on.

OnNaturesCourse · 09/12/2022 12:56

£266. 45 up till the last week so probably more like £230 or so.

Scary how it's getting eaten
