Dh told me we are 700 in credit with them.
I don't want the heating on more than an hour a day until winter hits.
What is everyone s situation at this point.

As of 1st December when half yearly bill was done we are £760.92 in credit however it is costing us less this year because our usage is lower due to a few things.

They have put my DD up by quite a bit so I've just rang them and put it back down to what it was.

DesertIslandCondiment · 02/12/2022 15:22

@Ciri
Those who think they are massively in credit, do you know how much you’ve spent. You may well not be in credit at all.

Yes, this.

Our EDF account kept saying we were £1,700 in credit then when I got my 6 monthly bill it took the usage off of that and we were left with £760.92 in credit so going to keep an eye on it all so I don't get a shock in 6 months.

KnittedCardi · 02/12/2022 15:25

£850 as off this months £300 payment and government help. Happy with that. We now have the heating on low (19 degrees) all day, so will use this to balance out next months higher bill.

RedHouseWins · 02/12/2022 15:29

£190 in credit, but that will disappear quickly once the subsidy stops, so i'm not complaining.

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/12/2022 16:22

While I begrudge paying £275 a month esp in summer - I know it covers me for winter

tho equally with the £400 added in bulb habe said they want to reduce it ans now I’m not sure as if prices are going up in April surely it’s better to have the extra paying now

plus moving to octopus as and when

Pythonese · 02/12/2022 16:33

Just under £1000

ivykaty44 · 02/12/2022 17:45

so much credit that Ive reduced my direct debit to £2 for December and am still £650 in credit. I will keep the direct debit reduced for January 1st and then increase it for 1st February.

I do give readings weekly so it is very upto date constantly

superdupernova · 02/12/2022 18:03

Our direct debit for electricity and gas went up to £640 this month from £220 the month before (we have an electric car). Just logged into our account and we're over £1400 in credit. Apparently we can lower the DD to £580 but no lower. I'll be calling them in the morning for our money back. We have a smart metre so they know how much we're using.

Natalie1966 · 03/12/2022 16:17

£4000 in credit? that's quite a claim.

That would be four years for us at current rates!

Do people who have half yearly bills not check on line in between tho?

Chickpea17 · 03/12/2022 16:43

£850 but the will go pretty fast now the cold weather setting in. costing £12-£14 a day and that's only paying 21.25p/kW. Heating on 8 hours a day. I'll tariff will end in September 2023 so god knows than

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/12/2022 16:46

oct to nov was 203 so £6.54 a day but with heating on a little

waiting for nov to dec - assume it will be big as has heating on every day. Hour am. Maybe odd 30m here and there daytime and then few hours in evening

bur don’t have a smart meter so do monthly readings

12-14 would be 372/434 a month

christ. Hope ours won’t be that

tho we also don’t have heating on 8hrs. Prob half that

Chickpea17 · 03/12/2022 18:42

Blondeshavemorefun everything in our house is electric, we don't have gas and at the mo we pay £250 a month. It's a new build and our second winter here. To be fair, the house is big around 2900 ft.² cost us about £130 a month the rest of the year. Not sure what will happen once or tariff ends in September 2023 tho ☹️☹️

We've only just gone on to a smart meter so never knew how much we were in credit until recently. Just paid what they wanted us to and never got in debit.

Now prices have gone up I've made a point of looking now.

We are using less and it us costing us less even with the prices going up because of a few things.

Ricco12 · 05/12/2022 06:20

Why are people allowing energy companies to hold on to their money.? Energy companies have 4.5 billion pounds of customers money in their accounts.

It's utter madness in my eyes that anyone allows them to take their money for something they haven't used.

Why don't you just pay for the energy you have used monthly or quarterly instead of this crazy DD schemes where you over pay for no reason other than to prop but the energy companies bank accounts

FelizNavicrab · 05/12/2022 06:35

I pay by DD because to not to that (ie to just pay for what I use each month) would cost an extra £96 a year: £4 per fuel per month.

Ciri · 05/12/2022 06:54

You can pay by dd but still not overpay and run up a massive credit balance. You ask for a bill regularly and then you adjust your dd

I didn’t know it was nearly £100 £8per month 🙀

but I’m happy to pay same all year tound

yes means they earn interest but also I don’t want to have the hassle of putting in one bank to move to another esp as sure I wouldn’t get £100 interest

FelizNavicrab · 05/12/2022 10:37

It depends who you get your energy from @Blondeshavemorefun but I am with Shell (not by choice) and they give a £4 'discount' per fuel per month for a DD payment.

I monitor usage vs payment pretty closely though and adjust my DD according to what is needed to cover the year's usage without any surplus. I regularly reject She'lls recommended DD amount, which would see me with about £400 more credit than needed, I think.

Willmafrockfit · 05/12/2022 11:05

it is ridiculous that the companies have so much of people's credit.
however paying as you go quartely is difficult!

BeyondTheLetterOfTheLawTheLetter · 05/12/2022 11:38

Having the money already paid in credit means I don't have to be too frugal. If I was paying for usage monthly, it would be too tempting to still not have the heating on and be making myself ill and the house mouldy! As it is, I can still try not to overuse, but not worry about the normal usage costing me more than I can afford.

It would be nice to have money left over come March, but if it's an expensive winter at least I don't have to worry about a bigger bill than I have budgeted for in March.

Prob with @whatisforteamum bulb @FelizNavicrab is that even if I want lower my dd they won’t let it go too low and say must be minim of £250 which is 3k and 3400 with government help

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/12/2022 12:29

@BeyondTheLetterOfTheLawTheLetter I feel the same

waiting for nov /dec bill and assume it will be 300+ which is ouch but tech pay 275 a month plus 6) so as long as around they it should cover it
