Dh told me we are 700 in credit with them.
I don't want the heating on more than an hour a day until winter hits.
What is everyone s situation at this point.

I'm being so mean with fuel.Boiling a large pan for the morning wash then bathing at night. One light or tv on.
It is hard to gauge what was being used tbh.
Same with food. We both work so keeping bills down is easier.

Last time I looked, £170 credit on elec.

DH put our DD payment down to £3/month which should be enough all winter (because of govt £400).

I Said it a million times, I have no idea why other people have such high elec bills. DH is bit obsessive about only running wash machine in day time when solar panels most matter, I suppose.

We're on oil & there's a lot in the tank.

Because most people don’t have solar panels, obviously!

BeyondThinkOfTheOptics · 27/11/2022 15:59

We're nearly £600 in credit. I've worked out that paying £180 a month DD, I can afford to run the heating for three hours every day, along with usual electric (max £10 a day), and still end the winter in credit. So that allows then for extra heating if it's particularly cold, or I can take out the credit in spring and spend it then!

Shodan · 27/11/2022 16:12

£146, dual fuel.

Although I'm paying in line with my energy forecast Octopus think I should be paying more every month. I'm not going to though, I'll just top up manually if I need to.

TimBoothseyes · 27/11/2022 16:18

I'm on pre-pay for both and at the moment it's £184 for electric and £492 for gas. I pay £49 pm on both throughout the year

poorbuthappy · 27/11/2022 16:27

£750 in credit. Paying £241 a month. Im hoping this will see us through although can tech afford the DD to go up a little.bit.

ColinRobinsonsFart · 27/11/2022 16:45

£1600 in credit

we pay £300 a month.

at the moment we are spending £8 a day dual fuel. Most of our usage is gas for heating.

Jafffffacakes · 27/11/2022 16:50

£200 in credit but fully expecting that to go by Xmas by the way the smart meter is looking. I’m going into the office as much as possible and yet it seems to make no difference

Pascha · 27/11/2022 16:50

£50 for electricity. No gas though we do have a ¾ full tank of oil that should see us through til late Jan if we're careful.

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 27/11/2022 16:54

£ 67, dual fuel and monthly readings. Eon seem to have calculated my usage about right, so the monthly £ 66 that I get from the govt and don't pay in DD goes into a savings account along with the heating allowance. Nice little buffer for next year.

3chunks · 27/11/2022 16:57

This, along with the other threads, is an utterly meaningless question.

It all depends on when your calendar year runs with the energy company.

If your year runs April-March then sure you might see some credit now.

If your test runs Oct-Sept then it’s likely you’ll be in debit and continue to do so as winter goes on. (And this is fine, as the goal will be to hit £0 on 30/09.)

MrsDanversGlidesAgain · 27/11/2022 17:02

Oh well, that's us told. Stop asking utterly meaningless questions, people.

Newnamefor2021 · 27/11/2022 17:06

£900 but that was before they took off this month but probably still over £500. We pay £400pm.

needastrongoneagain · 27/11/2022 17:06

£500 in credit. I thankfully fixed for two years last October, but I'm trying to build up a decent buffer because I feel we are going to get a shock next winter. 4 adults in a large but energy efficient house, £205 per month so 2.5 months credit. Trying to cut down as much as possible without being stupid about it, we haven't holidayed this year for various reasons so I'd like the think I can have a warm house. Turned the thermostat down, reduced the timings on the heating schedule, turned off the water heating every other day (large tank, short showers!), wear our (fake) Oodies etc, but do like to wake up to a warm house. Just being far more careful really.

changeling2022 · 27/11/2022 17:26

£800 in credit at the moment

No need to be snarky - there are so many threads asking the same question. So posters are clearly worried about it, as though we all need to be in £100s of credit at the moment. But in fact, it’s absolutely fine if you’re not because it all depends on your annual cycle. Just trying to spread the message!

smilingthroughgrittedteeth · 27/11/2022 18:04

No credit we pay what our smart meter says weve used monthly

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 27/11/2022 20:58

£0
We pay the exact amount monthly by DD.

Why pay in advance unless you aren’t able to budget.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/11/2022 22:55

About £400 which I assume will cover dec jan feb

pay 275 a month all year so been building credit

will be interesting what bill is this month as user heating more rho still careful with it

but thought much house is chilly. It’s not cold cold yet

nov has been mild imo

sure next 3mths will be colder so heating be on more

so hopefully by April will be back to low credit and starting to save it again

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/11/2022 22:56

Coz dev jan feb likely tO be 400 a month

so prefer all year round so can put heating on without worrying too much as in credit at mo

Babyroobs · 27/11/2022 22:57

Around £600 the last time they notified us but we have had the heating on quite a bit since then so it's probably gone down a bit now !

ShipwreckSunset · 27/11/2022 23:06

£900 in credit, hoping it gets us through winter.

NormaLouiseBates · 27/11/2022 23:10

I'm a bit surprised that so many people are in credit, some by a hell of a lot. We're £1200 in arrears but we can't afford to pay anymore than we are (£250 a month) so I refuse to worry too much about it.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 27/11/2022 23:11

Around £400. Our energy company keep trying to increase our DD by about £100, but we're keeping a close eye on our monthly usage and refusing to increase our DD until we think we might need to.

Can't help but think that they are estimating our use over the winter based on the last couple of years, but in that time we were working from home all the time and used a lot more energy than we are doing this year.

HowCanIPayItForward · 27/11/2022 23:12

£600 credit and monthly bill just gone down from £200 to £170/ month. So hoping the credit will see us through to spring.

4 people in 4 bed house, 2 of us wfh, so I'd say we're doing well. We've always been quite energy conscious though.
