Got my first 'energy shift' tonight, 5.30-6.30pm.

Anyone else doing it?

What is it?

poshme · 22/11/2022 10:18

I'm doing octopus saving session at the same time.

CeeJay81 · 22/11/2022 10:29

Do eon do this now? Been wanting to sign up but didn't realise they did it.

BeyondThinkOfTheOptics · 22/11/2022 10:30

It's the eon version of the octopus one - minimise your electricity use at a certain peak-time for the chance to get given extra credit if you reach your targets.

I got an email to sign up a few days ago, then another email last night saying the first one (for me, anyway) is tonight

@BeyondThinkOfTheOptics not had any emails about this. Maybe only certain people.

Ilikewinter · 22/11/2022 12:02

Im doing the Octopus version, i saved 15p last time 🤣🤣

OldTinHat · 22/11/2022 12:11

I did it last week with Eon Next and sat in the dark with a torch, 5pm to 6pm, everything turned off, for 44p. They've emailed to invite me again today, 5.30pm to 6.30pm but for 22p.

Nope. Not happening!

plaide · 22/11/2022 12:22

I signed up for this with eon next a few weeks ago but not heard anything back yet.

AnonWeeMouse · 22/11/2022 12:29

I tried the Octopus one.
They wanted me to drop a certain percentage as I recall.
The email must have been automated though because it was along the lines of saving 0.003kw because in the same time period usually I used 0.02 kw. Some low numbers like that.
Needless to say, I failed.
I scarce use 4kwh a day as it is.

VenusStarr · 22/11/2022 12:34

I did it last week and got 78p. But I turned everything off and went to the gym. Dh is home today so I've not signed up for this one as we've no chance of meeting it. It was only for 40p this week anyway.

BeyondThinkOfTheOptics · 22/11/2022 16:56

Dinner is already cooked, so we're treating it as a power cut and turning everything off at the fuse box. (Will obviously switch it all back on slowly, don't want to blow anything! 😁)

I realise it's not actually gonna save me much, but I refuse to miss an opportunity for extra credit 🤣

I did this with Eon Next when I was on holiday last week as I thought this will be easy as we are not there. We have the basics running while we are away - daily total coast about 1.25 including standing charge. We do have a lamp on auto that comes on in the evening so over this hour. We didn't reach the target so not much hope of us doing it when here!

Gufo · 22/11/2022 20:12

Made over £3 last week doing this with Octopus and tried again tonight. Figure it will pay for a tumble or dishwasher load

RedSnail · 22/11/2022 20:15

Yeah I earned 65p with it last week, it was only for 23p this week.

Was that for one event or more?

SellFridges · 22/11/2022 20:25

See, we are with Eon Next and have been asking them to agree an electric car tariff for over a year. We’d be more than happy to charge our car over night, even for a small discount.

They don’t have one to switch to, won’t respond (except to offer me a discount on a charger which I already have), and therefore I charge the car when I remember which is often at peak time.

Feels like they could be focusing their efforts elsewhere based on this thread…

It was for one saver session with Octopus - got a small bonus for being in the top 10% and just sat mumsnetting on my charged phone with a low energy lightbulb on. Would usually have oven and dishwasher on at that time.

BeyondThinkOfTheOptics · 25/11/2022 12:48

Well turning off at the fuse box seems to have been a good strategy... 😁

🤣 Well done! I haven't heard yet but opted in last minute. I don't think we achieved it though this time.

Wow! Well done! Were you sitting in the dark?

Yep, I sat in the dark and went on mn, and both DC watched something they'd downloaded to their iPads. When I put the power back on, they asked me not to turn the lights on in the living room as they were having fun!
