£1925 per year

If you are covered by the njc pay award (local authority, school support staff etc) you will get £1925 per year pay rise, backdated to April 2022. It's flat rate for everyone (although obviously pro rata for part time). I'm in a school and we will get ours in November pay. It's going to be a massive help.

Oh and BTW schools with a September pay cycle (mostly acadamies) are only backdating to Sept.

We’re an academy and we are back dating to April

in case any ex employees are wondering (me included!) this confirms about the back payment for ex employees

I moved from 1 school to another in June, will I need to ask the previous school for the April to June? X

Coconut212 · 02/11/2022 18:55

I’m getting it too but it will wipe my UC out in January as we get the backdate in December, in one hand and out the other. They do this every year with pay rises

PupInAPram · 02/11/2022 18:56

@Coconut212 that's frustrating for you!

kessiebird · 02/11/2022 18:59

I'll get between 5.45% and voted yes. This way we all get the same.

PupInAPram · 02/11/2022 19:01

It's about 5% for me but I think it's great that people on lower pay will get 10%.

Yes, that the advice we're getting. There's no obligation for us to contact leavers, but if they ask they should be paid.

forwhatitsworth22 · 02/11/2022 19:03

Thank you. I'll email the previous school tomorrow and request it. Thank you

You should be able to request a letter from payroll to submit to UC to explain the circumstances and in the email I received it says that we should be able to reclaim it back from UC.

I am in the same position and there's not a lot of details but I'm going to email payroll after I get the money and see what they say.

PupInAPram · 02/11/2022 18:41

@itsgettingweird njc agreed it on Tuesday. Unison and GMB members voted in favour of accepting the pay award and Unite against. However, it only needed 2 of the 3 unions to accept it for the award to be agreed.

I haven't had a chance to get onto my emails this afternoon - just checked and we've had it confirmed!

We get ours in December.

Nice rise of 3/4 of it in a lump sum. Minus tax and pension but also at lower rate of NI as that's decreasing again!

OurChristmasMiracle · 02/11/2022 19:08

Ours will be December undoubtedly as payroll closes for us on 1st of the month.

Same here!

However I get £160 UC (carers allowance adds £163 and I wouldn't get it without being a carer for ds!) ) and so I'll still be up quite a bit.

What it will effect is the monthly UC from then on.

Basically you'll get to keep 45% of the payrise and the rest will be deducted from UC.

ohnoohnoo · 02/11/2022 19:12

Just checked my contract and we do follow the njc scheme but I spoke to a colleague who said our school got a pay rise last year (before I started) so I'm guessing we must have had it then

PupInAPram · 02/11/2022 19:17

@ohnoohnoo last year's payrise (April 2021-2022) was only paid in March or April of 2022, so 1.75 % backdated for a whole year! The new award of £1925 has only just been accepted by unions, so you definitely haven't had it already.

Oh brilliant! Thanks for letting me know

Forfrigz · 02/11/2022 19:24

Does anyone know if this will apply to academic mentors via the government's national tutoring program? I can't find anything related to this in my contract

PupInAPram · 02/11/2022 19:27

@Forfrigz are you a teacher? Our teachers are getting 5% backdated to September. The NJC award is for support staff, so non teaching.

Does anyone know whether backpay for those who have left or retired since April will have pension contributions from employers and employees paid on it and be factored into 'final salary'? Upping final salary for LGPS - the part still based on final salary- could make a real difference to pension over coming years. Would it make a difference whether pension is being taken currently or is still deferred? Thanks if you know!

PupInAPram · 02/11/2022 19:29

@Tirimisu such a good question. I'd be emailing LGPS and checking out their website.

Can anyone explain the extra days leave? I’m confused as to what that actually
means

Tirimisu - short answer is yes, but you will likely need to contact your previous employer/HR and pensions fund administrator to ensure it all goes through x

Afaik it's an extra days pay.

So currently depending on service (under our county terms) you bet 44 or 45 (. Something) weeks pay based on the fact we work pro rata.

So pay id based on 37 hours a week 52 weeks of the year.

Most lsa work 30 hours a week over the 40 weeks contract as term time only.

You then get paid so many days holiday as we are all entitled to holiday pay as that's statutory employment law.

So currently I get 45.2 weeks a year pay (32 hours a week).

So from April I'll get paid 45.4 as that is the extra day.

It really won't equate to much once spread over 12 months pay and deductions are taken Grin

(Basically it'll be £80 per year for me - £14 something an hour - so about £8.50 a months minus depictions!)

Winterscomingagain · 02/11/2022 19:46

Am I correct in thinking this is classed as the national pay award and that some workers will also receive a local pay award.

RocOn · 02/11/2022 19:49

PupInAPram · 02/11/2022 18:44

@Superwash an extra day of leave starting from April 2023.

Is this for ALL local authority staff, even those who aren’t on NJC but may be on some other scale? I know the initial document said it was for all LA staff but just wondering what was agreed in the end.
