£1925 per year

If you are covered by the njc pay award (local authority, school support staff etc) you will get £1925 per year pay rise, backdated to April 2022. It's flat rate for everyone (although obviously pro rata for part time). I'm in a school and we will get ours in November pay. It's going to be a massive help.

How do I find out who's entitled to this? I'm a TA but in an academy.

PupInAPram · 02/11/2022 18:20

Ask your HR if you follow the njc terms and conditions for support staff. We're an academy in a MAT but we kept local authority terms and conditions when we converted.

I'm at the top of the NJC scales now so its the smallest % rise for me - and I think its pretty decent. Its a 10% rise for the bottom of the payscales - about 3.5% for the top. And its coming before Christmas which I'm releived about.

PupInAPram · 02/11/2022 18:29

I hope all schools and LAs move to pay this award as quickly as ours has.

Yes it's a good result and great that it should be in December pay 👍

Siddalee · 02/11/2022 18:33

It is a good rise.
to clarify though - I don’t think you get it all in November. I think it’s a full year increment It’s back dated to 1st April. - so you’ll get 8/12ths and then a monthly uplift of 1/12th per month going forward.

Stripyhoglets1 · 02/11/2022 18:36

Yeah - its been like a savings scheme!

I expect this govt will freeze our pay next year!

PupInAPram · 02/11/2022 18:36

Yep, we had an email from the Head today assuring us it would be in November pay. I was surprised myself.

Has this been confirmed.

I know it was voted for and the ballot was in support.

Last we heard it was going to the pay authority.

Superwash · 02/11/2022 18:38

I'm feeling rather hard done to, although I don't expect any sympathy. For some staff it's 10%+ for me it's about 4%

I'm used to rises being loaded towards the bottom end of the scale, but this seems excessive.

I absolutely support a proper living wage, but we've seen so much erosion of grade differentiation that the bottom 8 points have all been amalgamated, meaning hard earned promotions (I don't mean me btw) count for nothing.

PupInAPram · 02/11/2022 18:38

@Siddalee obviously it will be 8 months worth in November. Still a nice chunk of money even after deductions!

Yes, this is correct and it will depend on when your employer's payroll deadline is whether you get it in Nov or Dec.

Oh and BTW schools with a September pay cycle (mostly acadamies) are only backdating to Sept.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/11/2022 18:40

What if you have left the post, will we still be entitled to it? I only left on Friday!

PupInAPram · 02/11/2022 18:41

@itsgettingweird njc agreed it on Tuesday. Unison and GMB members voted in favour of accepting the pay award and Unite against. However, it only needed 2 of the 3 unions to accept it for the award to be agreed.

You are entitled to the backpay, but only if you ask!

ReedOfFate · 02/11/2022 18:42

I know that two of the three unions voted yes, which is enough to get it through, but have they had the formal meeting to agree it? I don’t think my employer will get the back pay through in the November payroll but hopefully in December

Like the PP I’m at the top of the scales so the % is lower for me but thought it was really good to have a flat rate increase and is very helpful. I believe it comes with an additional day of annual leave too!

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 02/11/2022 18:42

Ooh nice! I hope I get it in November too. I’m on the top pay scale you can get as a HLTA but I certainly can’t begrudge those who are on lower scales getting the same as me!

I know they asked for additional leave, but I don't think that ws awarded?

PupInAPram · 02/11/2022 18:44

@Superwash an extra day of leave starting from April 2023.

Thanks @PupInAPram I remembered they said early Nov but great that they’ve got in that early!

NCHammer2022 · 02/11/2022 18:48

It works out at 3.2% for me but that’s still the highest pay award I’ve had in years working in local government. Not really much help when my mortgage is going up £500 but I’m a high earner so don’t get to complain. Certainly don’t begrudge the lowest payscales getting a good rise for once.

Thank you. Is that official somewhere in the documentation? I just know they will be difficult about it!
