Eon rates above the cap?

CeeJay81 · 14/10/2022 17:40

So we are coming to the end of a cheap fix with eon. Going on the normal Next Flex from 3rd November. The rates they are quoting per kwh seem to be above the cap. I'm rather worried to be honest. Anyone else had this? It seems you can't swap supplier at the moment either. I've got all weekend to worry about this now as the customer service is only 9 to 5 monday to Friday. Anyone else had this?

I'm with edf and both my standing charge and kWh are above the cap on the variable rate, I guess if I ever got through to a human they'd tell me some crap of why and I wouldn't understand!

StillNotWarm · 14/10/2022 17:47

The values vary slightly by area. Have you checked the detailed numbers? Or are they massively over?

CeeJay81 · 14/10/2022 17:50

I get they vary a bit, which to me is so wrong but to me they are more than a bit over. I'm only hoping they are wrong.

I noticed this on the app I think last week it was 52 but then on my app just now it’s updated to the lower rate, 33.73

FormerlySpeckledyHen · 14/10/2022 17:51

How much have they quoted you?

GrumpySausage · 14/10/2022 17:53

We've noticed this too OP. Our tariff is up at the end of the month and when I follow the link to renew our tariff it is showing the uncapped prices and telling me my monthly bill will be £569!

There was a note on the website last week which said the kWh prices didn't yet reflect the energy cap but seems odd it's still not right.

CeeJay81 · 14/10/2022 18:05

@GrumpySausage and @WahineToa

Thanks. I'm glad I'm not the only one. That's put my mind at rest, seems they haven't updated properly. I'm thinking this is the case now.

Yes. They’re super busy too but if you can send a message to put your mind at ease or try tweeting them to check

TokyoSushi · 14/10/2022 19:24

If you look at the bottom of the page there's an * that says these rates don't take the price cap into account, so don't worry that they look high, you'll be charged price cap rates.

Although it's said that for absolutely weeks 🙄 We're with them and also came off a cheap fix at the start of this month, so goodness knows what we'll actually end up paying!

dementedpixie · 14/10/2022 19:26

Capped rates should be around 34p/kwh for electricity and 10.3p/kwh for gas.

What rates are they showing?

CeeJay81 · 14/10/2022 19:53

It said about 49p for electric and 17p for gas. Their site is a little confusing but i its cause they haven't updated for the cap. I can't seem to find their standard tariff prices but even with regional differences it would only be a penny or two.

Do you mind if I ask about mine.
I am with eon on economy 10 due to storage heaters.
Day rate is 42.25 and night rate is 20.34p. Does that seem right? I am wondering if my day rate won't drop to the cap due to a lower night rate.
Also have a 45p standing charge - does everyone have this?
Thankyou

Splinter2022 · 15/10/2022 10:05

WhatsApp them. Takes a week for them to reply. All OK, they will be using the correct rates.

Cloudyz7 · 15/10/2022 11:34

I've had my first EonNext bill since 1st Oct. The bill is a little confusing as they've added an extra line line:

Energy Used - 24.8 kWh @ 51.09p/kWh (£12.69)
Energy Price Guarantee - 24.8 kWh @ 17.00p/kWh (-£4.22)

Which makes it 34.09p/kWh (£8.47)

But that rate excludes the 5% VAT so the actual rate is 35.79p/kWh.

**note - yes I am a low user and this bill is only for 10 days (of which I was away for 5)!

GerronBuzanDoThaWomwok · 16/10/2022 14:45

I have two sets of prices for both gas and electricity, I'm not sure -each says DD but we stopped the DD a while ago.

Lifeispassingby · 16/10/2022 17:45

I had the same situation but spoke to them on Friday. They’re putting me on a flex tariff when mine ends on 4th November and it is below the price cap so happy days. She couldn’t explain why the one offered is above the price cap either but I made it clear I wasn’t impressed!

FistFullOfRegrets · 16/10/2022 17:50

The Price Cap is for the Standard Variable Rate. I don't 'think' there's anything stopping them Offering you a higher rate, but someone would be mad to fix at a higher rate when the price cap is fixed for 2 years.

OddBoots · 16/10/2022 18:00

The two images attached are the prices I had on my account with them, the higher one is what they put before they accounted for the cap and the lower one is the capped price that I am actually paying. (East of England, which seems to be right in the middle of the range of capped prices).

I think the 1st set are the rates under the original predicted price cap for October and the 2nd set are the prices under the price guarantee that came in instead

onmywayamarillo · 16/10/2022 18:08

E mail them, I'm m a fix and wanted to make sure I wasn't paying too much.
They got back to me the same day.

I'm with eon too

CeeJay81 · 16/10/2022 18:09

@OddBoots yes. When I went to the site from the email they sent me last week, it had the first set of figures up. That was what worried me. We are probably under north Wales and Mersey, although we are right in the middle of Wales, so unsure but the differences aren't much. I just couldn't afford 52pkw 😯.

I was worried by the first numbers too but thankfully the second ones are correct. Still double last year though.

@Sunshineandrainbow if you have a time of use tariff, they calculate a blended rate and if it’s below the cap overall, ie below 34p, they don’t change it - you will pay a higher rate during the day and a lower rate overnight.

I’m not sure how the blended rate is calculated but we have the same with Octopus. For us, it’s worth it as we charge our EV overnight. If you’d prefer a flat rate of 34p you should contact your supplier.

GrumpySausage · 17/10/2022 08:42

I'm still getting the pre energy cap rates when I try to renew. Thought there is now a message added on the app.

I'm going to drop them an email before I change.
