I found the national anthem a bit heart wrenching both times, as it felt so wrong today Sad

Had a productive NSD though. Watched the tv, got laundry done, did some work and finished cleaning the house.

DH loved his kuddly hooded blanket that I got him for his gift today. Thank you for whoever suggested this brand, I think it’s slightly more movable to wear about compared to my Ooodie. We’re now all sorted for winter.

CurlsandCurves · 19/09/2022 20:24

NSD today. I had a hair appointment booked which still went ahead. I paid for it last month when I booked it. We watched the funeral while I was there. Hairdresser us about 40 mins drive away from me and it was a very strange drive, like being in lockdown again with the empty streets.

Cooked a roast and now relaxing for the evening.

Loving all the baking that’s been done by you lot today, yum!

ThisisCollie2022 · 19/09/2022 20:42

I don't know what's wrong with me. Funerals automatically make me cry. I'm super sensitive to them. I watched a little here and there but as soon as my chin did a little pre cry wobble I had to turn it off again!

Pathetic I know!

I'm also quite poorly. I haven't had covid yet even though I'm immunosuppressed - impressive or what! But I'm wondering if I have it. I have a fever, and I'm getting worse by the minute. Even my skin hurts to touch from all the shivering. It could just be a cold. I have no other symptoms other than fever, freezing cold, full body ache and pain and a dizzy head. I'll take a LFT tomorrow!!

Anyway that scuppers my plans for tomorrow so that's another NSD!

northender · 19/09/2022 20:47

I can add to the cooking/baking roll call
Lentil & veg soup
Soda bread
Brownies
Banana loaf
Loved doing it, but was a bit tired afterwards.
Think I've made a decision about an air fryer/multi cooker. Looking at those cheese scones wolf I can't wait!

northender · 19/09/2022 20:49

Oh no Collie I hope it's not covid. Look after yourself

lifelongfrugaleer · 19/09/2022 21:02

I’m the same collie,
hope it’s not Covid but it does sound wretched, rest up

CheeseMaiden · 19/09/2022 21:06

Also made scones today and carrot and lentil soup for the freezer. DD is still poorly so we were watching CBeebies rather than the funeral.

@mustbefunny how did you churn the cream? I don’t feel like I have the muscle for it! you can also make crème fraiche from cream, just add some yogurt and leave it on the side for a couple of days (sounds nuts but we tried it last week and it worked!)

we make our own yogurt every week, strain it to get something closer to Greek yogurt and use the whey for baking, it makes good scones! Our household goes through a lot of yogurt and it works out much more cost effective for us to make it.
only spend was on Bother with the MSE discount code, worked out well getting DDs oat milk from there as we are struggling to get any from Lidl at the moment

hope you you feel better soon collie

kessiebird · 19/09/2022 21:35

Oh useful info on the thread again, I didn't know Aldi did click and collect! There's a store around 5 miles from here that offers it 👍👍 thanks socathe and that sounds a really good holiday.

Get well soon collie

The cooking and baking is most impressive!

First even NSD this month, nowhere open really! 🤣

Bank Holiday in September has confused me. Watched most of the funeral, the Crown being taken off her was so symbolic. Need some light relief now!

BigSkies2022 · 19/09/2022 21:40

DH back from Leeds, had a great time with DS. They went to the Armouries museum (free), had lunch in the very good cafe there and dinner in an Italian in Headingley (not free). Have ordered DS a fitted sheet off La Redoute (£22 including delivery) and a Protein Works shake (£14 including delivery) thingy. He says he needs more cutlery and cooking utensils (lost/ruined the admittedly ancient stuff I gave him from home for halls last year) but I am urging him to rummage through the charity shops first. He wants to make his room cosier and more personal.

Watched a lot of the funeral and committal services today. Really stirring stuff. I feel I am now really rooting for the monarchy to flourish, which is what I would have expected. Charles must be exhausted tonight.

Will do an Aldi run tomorrow but for a very limited top-up of eggs and dairy and some fruit. Still have a lot of cupboard essentials, and a fair bit of veg, and am inspired by the meal-plans here to stretch everything. We had a 3 course meal tonight - spaghetti with home-made tomato sauce; chicken thighs in puy lentils; mango and blueberries with creme fraiche. Leftovers for tomorrow lunch, and I'll make a big soup for dinner.

BigSkies2022 · 19/09/2022 21:47

Which is not what I would have expected. Edit button, please, MN!

On the Mumsnet Recommends: I do have 2 Sainsbury's Le Creuset cocotte knock-offs of 15 years standing, still going strong, and that was on the strength of a MN Recommends review. Can't comment on the middle-classness or otherwise of the feature these days, but on those two items alone, I rather rate it.

marthasmum · 19/09/2022 22:06

Oh no get well soon life and collie
looking at unis with DD, trying to plan visits. She is dead set on Manchester and has been planning towards that for a year. Now they’ve upped their criteria and it looks like unless she succeeds with her remark she may not be eligible. We’ll have to see though as she has 2 A levels in the bag and I wonder if they might look at that a bit differently.
from my perspective I think everything happens for a reason and it means she could have a great time somewhere else…but it’s not like that when you’re 18 is it? Also DD sometimes get quite fixed ideas and this is one of them.

needastrongoneagain · 20/09/2022 07:58

Morning!

Sounds like a good use of money socathe. Glad you had a lovely time.

How you feeling today collie, might be worth a LFT for peace of mind but no obligation to obviously.

Good use of food there skies, mango and blueberries with crème fraiche sounds lovely. I don't doubt there's some bargains re the MN recommends, it just struck me as ironic that their main item on the mail last week was a luxury hot chocolate maker when there's so many threads on here with folk wondering how they will pay their energy bills this winter. But it's a broad church is MN and I've too much on to get too excited 😁.

In my experience martha there's some leeway re grades for university. Especially if the lower grade isn't the subject they want to study, as in DS's case.

Hoping for LSD, and planning a walk later this evening with a friend. DH probably needs some warmer clothes now, and my heating clicked in downstairs for a very short time this morning (turned it off).

Gnocchi with creamy garlic mushrooms for tea (low fat crème fraiche), quick and easy.

Have a great day all.

Gensola · 20/09/2022 08:17

Im really struggling with constipation on the codeine - I’ve tried senna pills three nights and movicol sachets for a few days but no joy. I can’t really come off the pills yet as my throat is agony without them.

ThisisCollie2022 · 20/09/2022 08:31

Thanks everyone! life feel better soon!

I woke up in the night feeling so unwell I took a LFT. Negative. Pah!

gen quite often my meds make me feel that way, doctor recommended Senna tea from H&B. I've only ever needed it twice but they're very good. Movicol doesn't do much for me.

NSD today

I've always had an issue with constipation and hate laxatives as they tend to have horrible painful consequences for me. A few years ago I discovered bromelain, it is an extract from the pineapple plant and it is like magic for me makes everything work as it should with no painful consequences.

Constipation is really miserable, I hope you feel better soon.

ThisisCollie2022 · 20/09/2022 08:33

@Gensola it's called Slimatee x

lifelongfrugaleer · 20/09/2022 09:05

Oh I’m not unwell, just a grump toast with a sore arm.

interested in the yoghurt as we use loads.

WeightoftheWorld · 20/09/2022 10:13

Eurghhh so DS is unwell (high temperature) so cannot go to nursery so I cannot work so I've lost a days wage. I was also supposed to be working yesterday initially until the bank holiday was announced and then all the work got cancelled which meant I lost a days' wage again, and also I could have claimed DD's nursery fee for yesterday as a work expense which I obviously couldn't do in the end either. If DS is still unwell tomorrow I will have lost out on about £500 over the course of these three days! Sad That is really depressing tbh as it's such a lot of money for us. Plus also frustrating to have paid over £150 in nursery fees for DS for him to attend due to bank holiday and then illness. I think I forgot just how often they get poorly in the early months of starting nursery.

Today will be an NSD...but obviously won't put a dent in the money I've lost through being unable to work. Feeling quite down about it all to be honest, we are already concerned about money as it is.

Gen Have you tried lactulose? Might be worth a try if it's suitable for you (check with pharmacist/doctor first)? I feel for you, I had absolutely awful constipation for the first half of both my pregnancies because of having severe pregnancy sickness (so being dehydrated) and the anti-sickness medicine I took also has constipation as a side-effect, it was really truly grim.

Gensola · 20/09/2022 11:17

Thanks for the tips everyone I’ve dragged myself into town to get all three things luckily boots is right next to Holland and Barrett! I actually feel sick from the constipation and so bloated, it’s horrendous.
need to drink more water too but it’s hard as my throat is so sore, it hurts to swallow even water.

AdoraBell · 20/09/2022 12:05

gen hope you get something that’s works for you.

NSDs Sunday and yesterday, grocery delivery due later, should be about £75-ish.

ThisisCollie2022 · 20/09/2022 12:12

Gosh what a shit day. Next door is having her roof fixed but didn't tell us in advanced. So noisy. And why are the roofers walking on my roof? (Semidetached)

What if they cause damage? There's a lot of banging and stomping. And cutting. And they're doing something to her chimney too which is connected to our chimney!

I'm wary. I think they think they can do whatever because there's no car in the drive so they assume nobody is in. DH is on his way home. I'm very cross.

lifelongfrugaleer · 20/09/2022 12:23

That is shit collie

Gen have you tried warm water

AdoraBell · 20/09/2022 13:10

Collie I would go out to see what causing the noise, tell them it sounds like they were removing your roof.

ThisisCollie2022 · 20/09/2022 13:24

DH pulled in to the drive and the roofers immediately scarpered to their side of the roof. Hmmmm.
Haven't heard much since.

It's worth having another car on the drive sometimes isn't it.

One of the roofers saw me in the back garden and called me babe 🤢

weight that sounds horribly stressful! Hope you're all OK x

Socathe · 20/09/2022 16:05

@kessiebird it costs £4.99 but I've been using it for ages now and it's so worth it! Especially when you have an impatient toddler. Save more than £4.99 just from not throwing random things in your trolley.

@ThisisCollie2022 hope you feel better soon.
