I was due to work from home but I got called in because one of my colleagues had a family emergency and had to take the day off. Annoying but what can you do? I'm making my way in at the moment. I'd no time to make lunch so I'll have to pay for something. And I won't get to hang out my washing.

CollieWobble22 · 28/09/2022 10:51

Just had my interview. The job and hours were quite different than what was advertised and the lady just cheerfully said "oh yes there were a few mistakes with the job advert, are you happy to continue?

I felt compelled to say yes! 😂 Needless to say I probably won't get that role but it was good interview prep!

I feel a little embarrassed!!

Timetoswitch · 28/09/2022 12:29

There’s no need for you to be embarrassed collie, that’s quite fundamental details for advertising a job and getting the right people who can work the required hours 🤔

that’s annoying about lunch and the washing tayto, treat yourself to something nice though!

I was going to hang out washing, but it then said it would rain 🙁

chilly here this morning too. The tights are back on!

Decafflatteplease · 28/09/2022 16:39

Hi all having a catch up.

curls that's a lovely dress. Where's it from? I'm also petite at 5 foot but I'm a.size 18-20.

collie that's great savings well done. And good luck for the job. Would the new hours still work if you were offered it? Am I right in thinking you WFH currently?

tayto shame about lunch and washing.

I'm still plodding along. Still no surgery date. Had a bit alot of a cry today. Am keeping busy batch cooking for the freezer when I won't be able to cook post surgery.

We caved in last night and put the heating on as it was so cold and damp. One radiator doesn't work which we suspected. It's £200 to fix plus all the effort of having workman in and the system drained or something. Plus, you know, major surgery. Might just try to cope without that one as don't think we can do it.

It's becoming more obvious our monthly income isn't going to stretch enough for everything. Am trying to get prepared for Christmas and birthdays and am buying bits each week to put away. We used to do £100 each for DC but this year it's going to be £50 so that's still £200 to find from somewhere. Plus DH will need to take unpaid time off work for my surgery. Uurgh. Trying to aim for just one day as can't afford to lose more money.

Good frugaleering news though one of my DC needed something for a hobby....brand new price £32...I got on vinted for £6!

lifelongfrugaleer · 28/09/2022 17:28

That’s ridiculous collie that’s those mistakes are made on adverts.
I’ve got promotion interviews coming and I’m papping myself, too much stress head to prep

nsd in the end and shops didn’t have what I wanted

that’s annoying tayto but good news in the budget?

needastrongoneagain · 28/09/2022 17:29

Afternoon.

Decaf, I'm so sorry you don't have a date and that you feel as you do. Better out than in re the crying, honestly, being stoic isn't going to improve how you feel.

I think there's a lot of folk that will struggle to meet the spiralling cost of living, Martin Lewis was saying that roughly half a percentage point rise in rate is circa £600 a year for every £100,000.00 of mortgage, so for those coming off fixes are going to really struggle. It's depressing. What this government have done in the last week I just can't get my head around the consequences for literally everyone.

Vinted is awesome!

No requirement to feel embarrassed collie

Noted the app We Buy Books, we've loads to get rid of.

Took a load of odd currency from DH's various trips overseas for work to Tesco today. Just a few note from all sorts of blooming places as far away as Indonesia, some of which have been lying around for years! £117 in my purse, plus the £14 from yesterday. Given I don't need a big shop this week I think that'll do us two weeks shopping. Boom - really chuffed.

CollieWobble22 · 28/09/2022 17:34

Sorry to hear you still don't have a date decaff xxx

Anyone have any ideas on how to keep the cat off the worktops? He's an absolute ninnymuggings for it and it's driving me mad. Especially as he's out there catching birds and digging litter trays.

When we removed him the Cats Protection League literally encouraged him up onto their kitchen work top so we could meet him. It's lead to a terrible habit and foil, cans, water spray, nothing bloody works. I think I must be Sainsburys top purchaser of anti bacterial spray. (We don't have a kitchen door as it's open plan!)

Humph! Grumble grumble. I think the crappy interview has made me grumpier haha!!

CollieWobble22 · 28/09/2022 17:35

Removed = rehomed

CurlsandCurves · 28/09/2022 18:25

@Decafflatteplease dress is from New Look but I think there’s only size 26 left now. I’m the opposite to you at 5ft 9.

lifelongfrugaleer · 28/09/2022 18:57

Done blame you for crying decaf, definitely don’t bottle it it

winner on the old currency need

CollieWobble22 · 28/09/2022 19:33

Just popped into Aldi as it was on the way to somewhere else. I picked up cereal, crisps, ice cream and frozen veg.

Came home and took those things off the Sainsburys shop and calculated I saved £4.59. Just like that

Incredible. I'd save so much if I did a full week shop there but I love click and collect at Sainsburys as its free. Our Aldi doesn't do it yet.

Gensola · 28/09/2022 21:22

I got the all clear from my biopsy - so relieved. I may have had a cry. Now if my nerve damage would just feck off, I’d be golden!

Timetoswitch · 28/09/2022 21:37

That must be such a relief gen, hope the recovery hurries up now!

We ordered our Christmas turkey today, using some gift vouchers. We’ve gone for the cheapest available. I do appreciate we are lucky to do this.

Good regaining of cash need. DH has some travellers checks, I don’t think people even use them nowadays. We must look into whether they can be cashed.

Fearofawelshplanet · 28/09/2022 21:43

Great to have you back Mrs! NSD!. 😀

CollieWobble22 · 28/09/2022 21:52

🥰 @Gensola what a relief!!! Yay! Xx

I washed our pillows and duvet today and tumble dried them. Smart meter doesn't normally go over £2 a day but today it's almost £4! An uncomfortable sight but a one off (well, until next week's price hike)

I'm the same when I go to Lidl / Aldi. I have the ocado app open as I go round and take anything off the app as I put it in my trolley (if that makes sense) one week it was £20 😱 but like you say its the ease and time saving of Sainsbury's / ocado.

We are also trying downgrading brands and trying the value ranges more. We often nip to Asda in the week and today I wanted chocolate as a treat for DC. Would normally get the £1 bars so that would be £4 but today we tried value which were 33p so £1.30ish so there's almost £3 saved. DC couldn't tell different!

lifelongfrugaleer · 29/09/2022 06:14

Wonderful news Gen.

lifelongfrugaleer · 29/09/2022 06:15

I do the same amend my Sainsbury’s shop from Aldi

needastrongoneagain · 29/09/2022 08:13

Morning.

Hooray Gen, that's brilliant, so pleased! Just great,

Correction to my post below, it's a full interest rate point, not half, but still!

Spends yesterday

£4 glass of wine (club meeting), probably unneeded.
£6 Vinted (I'm stocking up on thick jumpers for work and life).

Today I'm not in the office but in the city doing some banking related matters, then out tonight but on expenses.

I'm pretty much Lidl these days for shopping and the odd veg box or allotment gifts, I rarely go anywhere else, apart from some specific chocolate mousse DH likes. I swapped since he became poorly, and I've found it much easier than I thought to change from pretty much carefree spending at Sainsbury's and Ocado to Lidl. I'm less sure re Aldi but that could be local one in truth.

Have a good day all!

CurlsandCurves · 29/09/2022 08:16

@Gensola amazing news, you must be so relieved!

Im going to have to use the tumble dryer today. DH and DS1 have been working away this week, returning last night with 2 suitcases of laundry. And despite having 2 airers I’ve just nowhere for it all to go. So just one load in the dryer will help.

BigSkies2022 · 29/09/2022 09:47

Great news Gen - and I'm sure the nerve damage will fade away.
Decaff - sorry you are feeling low. Not surprising.
Lovely find on the currency, need! Planning to do my We Buy Books sweep this weekend. DH a bit suspicious, and insisting on double checking.

Renovated coat cupboard turned out well, and I used up some spare paint and wallpaper. I got one of those stick on rechargeable wardrobe lights, vair posh!

Need to finish decluttering French A level papers before I start my level 5/B2 course in a couple of weeks.

Aldi today. Will do a penny pinching shop for basics as we're low on funds before payday. If I were a single lady, I'd probably push the cupboard contents another day, but DH could use a square meal at home tonight. So chilli it will be, and an episode of Ghosts (which is feel good, very sweet-natured TV if anyone is in need of such a thing).

Havering about buying some new pillows, as the ones we have are flat as pancakes after years of faithful service. The ones I want are back in IKEA, and available online, but I"d have to stick them on PayPal credit. They are 10% more expensive than when they were last in stock, so it's plain they're never going to get cheaper.

lifelongfrugaleer · 29/09/2022 09:48

I love ghosts

CollieWobble22 · 29/09/2022 09:54

I'm spending the day revising for tomorrow's interview and planning a quiet spooky Halloween walk around the village! As DS doesn't want to go trick or treating.

It won't actually be spooky. It'll just be dark and I'll make some spooky sounds to get him giggling 👻 hopefully the breeze will cause leaves to rustle and chimney smoke will cause spooky haze and smells.

I might bake ginger parkin today 😊

Decafflatteplease · 29/09/2022 10:05

Morning all,

Feeling brighter today 😊

Spent £45 on diesel this morning, prices seem stable at the moment around £1.78.

Meeting some close friends in a minute for coffee they know all what's going on. Budgeting £5 for coffee and cake. And will be £5 for parking.

Im wearing a new dress (£5, vinted) I love it and it has pockets 😂
