We do informal chats to give people more information about the job reality is to screen out the weirdos

We do this too. I’m a fan of getting to know the person really to make sure they will fit.

at the moment we’re in a position where if we like someone we’re making offers in interview. Because we are short staffed. And over worked.

been awol a bit. But life! So busy!

im getting colder. But I love autumn.

@BigSkies2022 in winter I throw a double duvet under my base sheet on the bed. We have a king bed but the double duvet fits nicely. Adds coziness.

lifelongfrugaleer · 27/09/2022 15:12

Well done on those savings collie

CollieWobble22 · 27/09/2022 16:37

Thanks, it's been bloody hardwork.

I have a history of anxiety and panic attacks and I can feel it rising in my chest. I have no idea why! 😔 wondering if it's since The Mini Budget.

lifelongfrugaleer · 27/09/2022 16:54

I think you are doing amazing and lots of us are anxious after that budget

BigSkies2022 · 27/09/2022 17:00

Em - good idea on duvet underneath. I think I have a spare, will try it next time I change the bed.

Timetoswitch · 27/09/2022 17:03

I see quite a lot of not very good application forms (think 4 short sentences for a personal statement). But the job history shows they should have the skills for the job. So an informal chat often puts them back in the mix. Or someone with no experience can impress you, and you can see with training that they would be great!

Timetoswitch · 27/09/2022 17:06

On a personal level, I don’t think I come across well on the informal chat route. I’m terrible at polite conversation 🤣

TheNewlmprovedMrsMadEvans · 27/09/2022 18:27

Em that's a great tip ☺️
Weight so hope your Ds continues to improve 💐
Gen hope you have been ok today sweetheart. l know how poorly you've been lately bless you 💐
Collie hugs sweetheart l am sure you have done everything you possibly can . It's sounds amazing tbh well done . I suffer from anxiety and stress terribly. I do 'tummy breathing exercises' and listen to the wind and rain when l can't sleep. I have also cut caffeine out of my diet , another thing that helps is trying to get outside and sit and listen to nature sounds . These are things l find help me anyway 💐
It's horrible l am so sorry 😔

TheNewlmprovedMrsMadEvans · 27/09/2022 18:31

Spends today Aldi 15
Morrisons 17
Bought a Sushi Good to go deal from my local Waitrose for 4.99
First l have ever done , it was simple , there was a Katsu curry in there and a platter of Sushi.
It was worth 16.50 full price
We were very pleased with it tbf ☺️

AdoraBell · 27/09/2022 18:57

£73-ish on grocery delivery
popped out for coffee, DH paid about £5/6

I’ve put fleece blankets on the bed, between top sheet and duvet.

We’re bloody lucky without a mortgage but I’m stressed about DD2. Her accommodation this year doesn’t include utilities in the rent and friend she’s sharing is from an extremely rich family. They have an immersion heater and said flat mate leaves on 24 hrs. Cannot grasp the fact it’s not fecking necessary Hmm . Also, stepson’s mortgage is fixed for another 18 months.

CurlsandCurves · 27/09/2022 19:54

@ThisisCollie2022 an informal chat sounds great. DH had that, came away having given all his measurements for his work clothes as they offered it him there and then! Fingers crossed for you. Awesome savings too xx

@BigSkies2022 sounds like you and DH are making progress, lol at his spreadsheets getting you all hot and bothered!

Ive got a big family party to go to this weekend and really wanted to get something new to wear. Went actual shopping, nothing. Then I found this online, it came and I love it. Totally out of my comfort zone but it fits lovely and…. Half price at a bargainous £14.99!

CollieWobble22 · 27/09/2022 20:07

Thanks @CurlsandCurves I am really hoping it'll be like that. The one I really want is on Friday eek

I have an interview tomorrow. Its a career change type of role, I'm not 100% sure about it yet but keen to give it a go 😁 they'll probably think I'm mad!

Socathe · 27/09/2022 20:24

@CurlsandCurves lovely dress!

@CollieWobble22 good luck with your interviews and hope you get the job you're after

Hope all those who have been ill feel better soon.

DH's birthday today. McDonald's breakfast at his request £9, garden centre as he got some vouchers but we spent a bit more than he'd received so £20. We're sorting out our front garden which is lovely as for so long it has looked awful.

Cleared out my wardrobe today and swapped summer dresses over for winter jumpers, thank goodness as was struggling to find things to wear now the weather's cooled down. Have a few bits which I might try and sell on Vinted, I've not sold on there before but have some things from good brands and still with tags so worth a go.

Maybe a frugal win, had an email from OVO saying our £115 refund is on the way. We've not been with them for two years, so either a mistake or credit they've been holding on to? If so I had no idea, will just wait and see if the money appears in the bank!

We get paid mid month and it feels like a stretch this month with having been on holiday and DH's birthday. Just willing us along to payday but still seems so far off!

CollieWobble22 · 27/09/2022 20:32

I keep losing my posts but @CurlsandCurves I love that dress!!

@TheNewlmprovedMrsMadEvans thank you for your lovely post. I'm lying down listening to the rain and its so relaxing!

Lots of deep breaths 😊 I usually take anti anxiety meds which are also migraine meds. But I have been trialling a month without them. I obviously need them more than I realised as I've had anxiety and migraines lately!

NSD tomorrow. Getting closer to Friday!!
I'm also tempted to sell on Vinted.

Every time I wear something that makes me feel ugly or uncomfortable I put it in a pile. That pile is quite high now! And I've realised I buy quite unflattering clothes for my dinky height (5ft2) so I need to think about that 😅

CollieWobble22 · 27/09/2022 20:34

@Socathe love it when that happens. We had a water rebate last month. Couldn't have happened at a better time!

I'd be lost without spreadsheets. DH and I have used ours since 2006 and its been edited a billion times since but its still the same one 🤣

TheNewlmprovedMrsMadEvans · 27/09/2022 21:48

Curls that's a lovely dress Smile & what a bargain !
Collie you are welcome lovely l know how horrible it feels when it's stuck in your chest and you just can't get rid of it and it makes you feel so jumpy Flowers
Good luck with the interviews too Smile
Socathe Happy birthday to your Dh sounds like you both had a lovely time Smile
Adora those damn immersion heaters eat electricity your poor daughter Flowers

Gensola · 28/09/2022 00:42

collie I am also 5’2 and in denial - my family say I’m a 6 foot 2 person trapped in the body of a short person 😅😅
Ironically I find very long things work the best and make me look a lot taller. I’m embracing the maxi dress.

lifelongfrugaleer · 28/09/2022 06:06

That’s a nice dress

might be a lsd today,

needastrongoneagain · 28/09/2022 07:39

Good luck collie for your interview.

Happy Birthday to your husband Socathe

Nice TGTG haul there Mrs, we got a corker one from Costa yesterday, you can freeze most of the stuff, if folk don't know. The Costa and Greggs ones are great for the DC 'grab and go' lunches. There was a lot of vegan stuff in ours yesterday, which suits us too, maybe not for everyone.

Yesterdays spends

Found some old Singapore dollars in a drawer and changed them at Tesco for £19.41😁. I've some HongKong ones for today!

£5.40 coffees for myself and DH in the cafe.
£13 on a hand knitted (chunky, life) jumper, Nordic style from Vinted.
£3 TGTG

Today

£73 dog food (two dogs, two months), waited until payday to order!

Heating kicked in this morning for half an hour but got two washes dry on the line yesterday, so not need for the dryer.

Have a good day people!

needastrongoneagain · 28/09/2022 07:41

Love that dress!

We have a 'use it up' type of soup quite often Skies, I tend to time it also for my 'free bakery item' for spending £50 at Lidl and get a nice Tiger loaf or similar.

CollieWobble22 · 28/09/2022 07:47

We have a grumpy DS every morning when he wakes up. Seems to be dark mornings that causes him to feel discombobulated and angry 😆 it's difficult not to laugh when he says "good morning, mum or should just say BAD MORNING!" It's so cute and feisty. Then he eats breakfast and starts smiling as it gets lighter outside.

NSD obviously.

Pretty anxious about my interview, as its a brand new role and sector for me (third sector and health). They already know I'd like a career change. I just have to prove I definitely want the change.

CurlsandCurves · 28/09/2022 08:13

Morning all!

Bit of a spendy day today. I’m meeting a friend for breakfast, looking forward to a good old catch up it’s been ages since I’ve seen her.

Then I’ve got my first proper session of tattoo removal, I’m so excited but nervous of the pain bit. I know what to expect now after last week 🙈

marthasmum · 28/09/2022 08:15

We woke up this morning and the heating was on…I thought DP had cracked (unlike him) but apparently the temp must have dropped below 13 which is what our thermostat is set at. I’ve put it down to 11 as we’re trying to keep it off for now, but we’ve all enjoyed the warmth!
also I have so many damp towels draped around (what is it with teenagers and towels?) so it was good to get some of them dried.
Good luck with the interview collie
Aw Mrs I’m sorry to hear that about the anxiety, I’m not surprised with what you have on your plate. I’m glad your mum is making some progress.
big I too would be excited by a partner who loved a spreadsheet! It’s really not DP’s thing sadly. He’s regretting his extra job at the moment - he’s PT and I had asked him to take on extra work - he’s chosen to work in a shop and it’s much harder than he thought. So he’s looking for other options. I appreciate it must be a hard change to be doing extra hours (he’s 60 now) but I’m afraid I have no sympathy!
Working at home this morning on my PhD, the first time in ages I’ve had time to do any. I’m way behind. But have been getting lots of nice supportive feedback and appreciation from. Colleagues about the hours I’ve been putting in recently which is nice.

Taytocrisps · 28/09/2022 08:30

Morning everyone.

I've had a busy week so I haven't been posting much.

I'd visitors at the weekend. It was lovely to see them but I spent quite a bit on food and alcohol for them. As it happened, we didn't actually drink much of the alcohol because we were out and about a lot, so I'll save it for Christmas now I may have opened the Baileys bottle already.

We had our budget yesterday and the government made changes to tax bands, so I should make a saving on tax going forward. Also, they'll give €600 in electricity credits over the winter (three instalments of €200). And I'll get a double Child Benefit payment in November. There were a lot of leaks before the budget so I'd a fair idea of what to expect. I was just holding my breath until it was all confirmed. I'll still have to be careful over the winter as home heating oil is horrendously expensive atm. I'll be spending a lot less on Christmas presents also. But it gives me a bit of breathing space.

I'm working from home today. I'd better go put on a washload before I log into work.

Hope you're all good. I'll be back later for a catch up.

BigSkies2022 · 28/09/2022 09:23

Lovely dress, Curls - is that your style, with the chunky boots and all? Super.

Ahh, spreadsheets. Well, DH is the one with the masters in economics, and he uses them all the time at work! I don't know if it's some deep Lutheran guilt about money, but it has been difficult to get this conversation off the ground. I think he has very high standards for himself.

I use the spreadsheets provided by The Humble Penny blogger, whose name escapes me at present. I find the cash flow forecast helpful.

Have downloaded the We Buy Books app and I'm going to scan the books (and any other bits they accept) I'm decluttering to see if I can raise a few quid like that. I"ve been ignoring Prolific surveys for a while now but I'm not far short of the £5 threshold for payout, so might see if I can get across the line today!
