Wow that is low, are you sure it’s your kWh of gas and not just the meter reading ie cubic meters?!

we are 3000kwh elec and 14000 kWh gas, 4 bed top floor flat

Oops, sorry! It's 3117

Mybeautifulfriend22 · 11/09/2022 20:22

The last year of our fix which ended in summer was:
1258 elec
10552 gas

We had used less gas due to the milder winter but our electric has always been similar. 2 of us in 30s 3 bed semi. Heating on a few hours a day in winter around 19 degrees. One WFH.

HesDeadBenYouCanStopNow · 11/09/2022 20:23

Just over 7,000kWh electrics for large old house
Oil + multi fuel stove for heating

We are pretty profligate with our electric use at the moment and probably ought to start cutting back whilst we're still on a lower fixed rate.

LaMariposa · 11/09/2022 20:23

We moved to a new supplier so the following are their annual estimates based on 3 months of use.

Electric - 1400kwh. We had solar panels put in last October so even this seems a bit high.
Gas - 12000kwh. Have installed Tado radiator controls and tried to cut down in other ways so it will be interesting to see how accurate this is.

4 bed 1960’s detached.

DianaBarry5 · 11/09/2022 20:29

5429 electric
22455 gas

Thanks for this thread. Is this a lot for a single person living in a 4 bed house?

BorgQueen · 11/09/2022 20:32

2 Adults, me in most of the day.
3 bed semi with combi boiler, gas CH and hob, electric oven.
4000kwh electric.
7500kwh gas.

BorgQueen · 11/09/2022 20:36

Diana, that’s a LOT of gas. Have you got an old, inefficient boiler that has a pilot light?
My DD has a 4 bed detached house, 2 adults/ 1 toddler plus 2 extra kids there at weekends. They use loads of hot water and DD has the heating on lots in winter, they only use 15k of elec.

BorgQueen · 11/09/2022 20:37

15000 Gas not elec 🙄

Narwhaleahoy · 11/09/2022 20:46

Electricity 4100 kWh
Calor LPG: 3000 litres

3 bed, large barn conversion, badly and on the cheap, converted by DIY enthusiast. (NEVER trust a full, structural survey, as we have found out to our cost, but that’s a whole different story…)
Underfloor heating, of sorts, but we are brutal and only have it on for 3 hours a day. Wood burning stove and heated throws the rest of the time. Winter is hell, but the views make up for it all.

EkinWho · 11/09/2022 20:53

These threads seem pointless without disclosing the area you live in. Far easier to have lower usage in the south of England than the north of Scotland.

DianaBarry5 · 11/09/2022 21:02

No I have a brand new Worcester Bosch boiler!

DianaBarry5 · 11/09/2022 21:05

Well a year old!

alwayshavebeenfemale · 11/09/2022 21:07

I live alone in a large old stone house. My annual gas KWh is just under 30,000 😳😳😳😥 and my electric is 5,500. I am terrified ...

It's double what my DGM uses in a three bed, she is home all the time and 87 so the heating is on 22 or something!

rurbane · 11/09/2022 21:15

We're a 3-bed semi detached, 4 people. Work from home and have pets who need heating/cooling, also have 2 teenagers who sometimes cook for themselves. This is is our estimated annual usage since transferring from Avro to Octopus.

We got a new boiler a couple of years ago, but Avro were definitely over estimating our usage despite getting monthly readings. We got a £500 refund in 2021.

Our double glazing is over 30 years old and our roof needs replacing so usage could be lower.

1500 sq ft detached house. 4 beds 3 receptions, new build in SE. We use 3500 electric (have 4 solar panels) & 5700 gas.

frillypots · 11/09/2022 21:18

Can anyone help with whether there is a problem with how our gas meter is measuring consumption? Has bill has always been ridiculously low since we moved in?!

New build been here 3 years. Gas consumption last 12 months is 899?!

Elec 4333.

It's a 4 bed detached new build with 4 of us living here.

Is this typical gas usage for a new build? We don't scrimp on putting the heating on.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 11/09/2022 21:20

Family of 2 adults, 2 teens
I wfh part time/out part time
3 bed newish house (23 years old)

Last year
Gas - 10, 036 kWh
Elec - 3470 kWh

On track to be similar this year

Feels like there is a digit missing from the eve of your gas reading

Is that the units used on the meter, or actual kwh?

Panicmode1 · 11/09/2022 21:23

This is really interesting to read.

We are a family of 6 in a semi detached 4 bed Edwardian in the SE.

Bulb are predicting we will use 4741 kwH electricity and 18636 kwH of gas. Our combi boiler is 10 yrs old and I did ask the plumber about upgrading, but he said they go on for years...we use it for heating, hot water and cooking.

Radiators have thermostatic valves so will turn off rads in unused room, have bought shedloads of wood for the wood burner, and will pray for a mild winter!

Are those gas units kwh? The units on our meter need to be converted to kwh, roughly multiplied by 11 so 100 on the meter is 1100 kwh or so.

PutinSmellsPassItOn · 11/09/2022 21:24

I've just put my readings in and in 2 months I've used 308 KW electricity and 489 kW gas.
....that's since the 7 th of July.

No idea if that's high or not but our bills.dont seem too bad compared to some people.

3WildOnes · 11/09/2022 21:32

My gas seeems loads higher than most and we only heat our house to 19 and our boiler is a year old. It is an old house.

4 bed detached.

3500 electricity
19000 gas
