Hi not sure if it be use to anyone I'm not sure if many people are switching energy now. I have a octopus referral link which will split 100 between my bill and the person signing up.

I had a week with them when I moved house and tbh it worked our at £10/day and the boiler is hardly ever on. With Shell, in my old property, the bill was around £140/month and I had the heating on all through the winter. It's a lie that Octopus are cheap.

Were you on the standard variable rate with both suppliers? Was the £140 a month for a winter bill or your direct debit amount year round? Were the two houses similar size with the same EPC rating?

I don't think Octopus have lower rates than other suppliers, the standing charge may be slightly lower. Pretty much everyone will be on the standard variable rate as there are no low fixes on offer.

I'm with Octopus as their customer service is good and I like that I can change my own direct debit online when I like. I've heard stories about other suppliers setting direct debits much too high, holding on to £100s of customers credit and so on.

I switched from Eon next.

Here is my referral code.

Posting mine incase anyone is changing! I think Octopus are great, I had a month where I was struggling and emailed that I couldn't pay my bill. They replied within a couple of hours saying that was okay and asked if I'd be okay to continue from next month. And they took £100 off my bill as a way of helping.

In my new house I have a smart meter and I've switched back to Shell in this property now. My new house is smaller but now I have the direct comparison, I'm not sure there's much difference, if any.

Why did you switch back? Are your unit rates lower with Shell than Octopus? I thought they were all much the same.

I recommend Octopus for their customer service, their prediction tool, and the ability to set your own direct debit online, not because it's cheaper. I like to be in control of what I am paying, not my supplier.

I've been with Octopus for several years and they have been really great (I've been particularly impressed with their communication over the last year).

If anyone wants to use my link for £50 credit I would very much appreciate it!

Recently made the switch from British Gas after a year of terrible customer service and horrendous standing charge rises. Now I get 100% renewable energy and a company that I can actually contact easily if there is an issue!

If you wanna jump ship from the money grabbing bastards of British Gas and their ilk too, please use my Octopus referral link and we both get 50 quid credit: https://share.octopus.energy/oak-dove-297

If you're thinking of switching I'd be grateful if you used my link and we'll get £50 each:

Once you've switched to Octopus, you can ask to be added to their Tracker Tariff if you choose (you don't have to though, the referral is just to switch to Octopus as a first step).

I'd recommend you do your own research on this as the price changes daily but it's worth looking into.
I've saved avout 40% on my energy bills since I switched to Tracker, although prices go up in winter I believe.

For anyone who may also be thinking of Tracker, here's a comparison of my unit rate before and my rate today...

Standard tariff
Electric 28.78p p/kwh
Gas 7.3p p/kwh

Tracker tariff rate today
Electric 16.4p p/kwh
Gas 3.57p p/kwh

Can I just ask when the £50 credit is added? I switched to octopus a month ago using a friend’s referral code but neither of us have received a credit as yet (it definitely came up as a referral when I opened my account) Wondering if I need to email them to chase it?

BarbaraofSeville · 29/07/2023 08:13

It might be on your next bill or look in the T&Cs.

I've been lucky enough that 4 Mumsnetters have used my referral code, so thank you to all those lovely people. Smile

Each time I get an email when the switch is in progress and another when it completes then there's a credit on my next bill. I can also see the list of referrals at the bottom of my account page.

Just switched to Octopus and their customer service has been brilliant. Eon were refusing to fit me a new meter (need one for my solar output) but Octopus switched my account and got new meter fitted in two weeks. brilliant customer service. here's my referral if anyone wants to use it. https://share.octopus.energy/kind-emu-257

I have been with Octopus for a while now. Find the website really easy to use, eapicially submitting gas and electric readings. The free spins for submitting readings is good but have never won anything Grin

This is my referral link if anyone would like to switch, I would be very grateful

Sharing mine again. I've been with Octopus for a year and a half now and I'm very happy with them.

I can change my own direct debit easily online, so I can adjust it just right to save some credit for winter but so I am back close to zero once the heating goes off ready for summer. They have a prediction tool that I find is fairly accurate to help with this. My money can stay in my bank account where I need it, no excess credit in a supplier's account!

Very grateful if you use my link to switch! 🙏

Sharing mine again as it looks like they have some excellent tariffs right now worth switching to - new fixes and the Tracker which seems like a no brainer to undercut the price cap.

My code's not been used so far so if anyone is thinking of switching to save some pennies I'd be incredibly grateful if you'd use my code/link.
