Hi not sure if it be use to anyone I'm not sure if many people are switching energy now. I have a octopus referral link which will split 100 between my bill and the person signing up.

Doesn't work, due to cap changing won't let you progress to a quote, says stick with current supplier.

KaroH · 24/08/2022 11:00

I've used your referral.

I've managed to switch to them as I called. We are wanting to go on to their EV tariff so not sure if that makes any difference to whether they will allow you to switch or not. But just for reference if anyone else is wanting to switch it can, hopefully, be done for you too.

Tbh I would have paid extra just to get the fuck away from British Gas and their horrific customer service.

Howtomakethishappen · 25/08/2022 07:07

@KaroH would you be prepared to share the unit rate and daily rate they agreed for you?

I am just wondering if it would benefit my daughter to switch a.t.m

Putdownthecake · 25/08/2022 07:13

share.octopus.energy/great-calf-414 - here's mine :)

Bananabell · 27/08/2022 10:19

I've just used yours @Putdownthecake - thanks!

Mine is share.octopus.energy/azure-tiger-752 if anyone wants to use it!

Putdownthecake · 27/08/2022 11:23

Aw thank you that'll really help me! I'm glad you got credit too. I honestly think they're really good, as far as energy companies go

Astitichintimesaveswine · 27/08/2022 11:40

Here's mine if anyone would like to use it:

I do rate them as a supplier.

skeemee · 13/09/2022 09:38

@Bananabell I have used your referral code. Fingers crossed it works!

Bananabell · 13/09/2022 09:43

@skeemee I've just had an email saying it has so thank you! My switch is taking a while to be processed but I imagine they're snowed under trying to sort out all the new prices so fingers crossed it will all be sorted soon.

EddieHowesBlackandWhiteArmy · 13/09/2022 09:50

Happy to share my code here too if anyone would like to use it. I have to say I’ve been happy with the service they’ve provided and their website etc is clear and easy to use.

Sorry to jump on your thread but I just wanted to check as I thought you weren't allowed to switch suppliers at the moment.

British gas have just upped our dd from £110 to £285 a month. I knew a price increase was coming but was expecting it to double, not almost triple. I believe I am reasonably intelligent but cannot get my head around the increases, units etc and what the hell I should be doing now. We live in a 3 bed detached home with 2 dc's. There just seems to be so much discrepancy between what people are paying.

Sorry to hijack! But if we are able to switch to a better deal then thank you for the link

Monr0e · 13/09/2022 10:42

I've clicked the link and it just says you are better off staying with your current provider for now but to call if you want to discuss it. Did everyone phone up or were you able to switch online? Thanks

Bananabell · 13/09/2022 11:06

I emailed them - we've just had solar panels installed and I wanted to switch to them because they had a better export rate than other suppliers. They are definitely taking on new customers, but you have to ring/email them. They are incredibly slow at the moment, but they are responding eventually!
Because of the price caps, all of the suppliers are essentially charging the same standing charges and unit prices, so there isn't really much point in switching unless you have a specific reason (for us it was the export tariff). The only real discrepancy in what people are paying is down to the fact that they are using different amounts of electricity/gas. Or some people may have signed up to fixed deals, which have varied a lot over the last few months, so their payments will be a lot.

Have you been keeping an eye on what you're using @Monr0e? The increased DD will be taking into account what your supplier expects you to use over the whole year based on what you've used over the last year (combined with the new unit prices/standing charges). But yes, prices have rocketed - it's terrifying.

Babanabell, thank you for your reply.

I just feels so disproportionate to how much I feel we are using. But there is obvious a lot more use going on than I am aware of!

Me and DH work full time, both dcs in school, heating has not been on, we are out of the house most of the day

I guess I just need to be more mindful of having everything turned off

I just feel sick to the stomach that in this day and age, we can both work full time and still be worried about turning on lights and heating when we need it

I guess I was just looking for a light at the end of the tunnel 😔

Heartofglass12345 · 13/09/2022 11:54

I have no idea why but they are expecting us to use much more energy than last year, I'm with EDF for both gas and electric, £50 credit on my account and they want to up my payments from £261 to £510 a month! There's no way we can afford that Sad

Heartofglass12345 · 13/09/2022 11:54

Sorry I meant to say I'm wondering if it's worth me trying to switch to octopus but the message that comes up about staying with your current supplier is a bit off putting

EddieHowesBlackandWhiteArmy · 13/09/2022 12:16

I guess one of the reasons for switching would be for me that I’d get an extra £50 credit towards my bills which can only come in handy. But I agree Octopus aren’t going to be any ‘cheaper’ per se.

Putdownthecake · 13/09/2022 13:04

Noone knows exactly what will happen going forward but octopus were the only company to be £50 below the price cap. I think they've been really good, but I did have to take my previous energy company (BG) to the ombudsman so anyone might seem great compared to them. They've also said pay what you can afford and leave dd as they are if can't afford suggested. If you do switch please consider using my link above

skeemee · 13/09/2022 19:30

@Monr0e

I did phone them due to the message on their website. I have been having loads of problems with Bulb, however, there is no difference in their unit rates, so not expecting to save any money. I am moving purely due to the shoddy service I have been getting from Bulb for the past 5+ years, and I've had enough!

I think octopus is buying bulb.

Threeboysandadog · 14/09/2022 13:58

I find the Octopus website user friendly and customer service very good. I was previously with British Gas and moved because their website was hopeless and customer service dire!

Here’s my referral code if anyone needs one.

Octopus

Here’s my Octopus referral code if anyone would like to use it.

We’ve been really happy with them and as PP said, everything’s laid out very clearly on their website.
