I prefer Aldi, but if I were you I’d have a go at Lidl to see what you prefer. Think about transportation cost though and factor it in to the decision

Namechangehereandnow · 06/07/2022 10:15

I find them both the same …

teraculum29 · 06/07/2022 10:17

I would say stick with Aldi as it's closer to you.
I had better experience with Aldi thank with Lidl (especially my local one). Plus in my area it seems that Lidl have big problem with stock - lots of empty shelves, Last few times went to Lidl and i had to finish my shopping in Aldi as there was hardly any stock.
My Aldi doesnt have that problem.

notacooldad · 06/07/2022 10:18

I like them both.

bg21 · 06/07/2022 10:45

yes see I kinda thought they are going to be pretty much the same lol but I'm being told I'm wasting time with aldi and absolutely must move to lidl 🤣

I find Aldi much better overall. The only good thing Lidl has is the fresh bakery but it's not enough to make me shop there (ours are practically next to each other).

Damnautocorrect · 06/07/2022 10:52

It really depends on your local shops.
give them both a try and see.

i used to be lidl & Sainsburys only, then they redid my local aldi and I’ve swapped. Barely have to do a top up in Sainsburys now as their product range seems to fit my shop better

DirectionToPerfection · 06/07/2022 10:55

Slightly prefer Aldi, but Lidl is closer so I tend to shop there more.

There's not much difference between them, so in your case I'd stick with Aldi. No point going out of your way for Lidl.

CeeceeBloomingdale · 06/07/2022 11:00

I can do a full shop at Lidl but need to supplement an Aldi shop elsewhere. It depends on where you are though, I have an Aldi and a slightly bigger Lidl around a mile or so away so both are easily accessible to me. Lidl do great app discounts.

youngestisapsycho · 06/07/2022 14:19

Doesn't Lidl sell other brands but Aldi only their own?

Roselilly36 · 06/07/2022 14:30

I prefer Lidl, always spend more if I go to Aldi.

livingthegoodlife · 06/07/2022 20:28

I am a life long Lidl shopper but went to my first Aldi this week. I'm so fed up with stock shortages in Lidl. I had a good impression, lots of stock! Very similar. No bakery which is a shame, and do they not sell pitta breads? Could not find them.

Generally the products are very similar. I found them a few pence more expensive and no shopping app to save coupons. If Lidl sort out their stock ill move back. But Also wa good and I wouldn't make a long journey to go to Lidl if that is your choice.

darlingdodo · 06/07/2022 20:42

Aldi don't have the international weeks like Lidl. We went to Lidl today and bought lovely Polish biscuits and chocolate and dumplings and sausage.

DoNutSweatTheSmallStuff · 06/07/2022 20:54

Much prefer Aldi

KirstenBlest · 07/07/2022 08:07

Prefer Lidl but also like Aldi. It depends a bit on the store.

DockOTheBay · 07/07/2022 08:20

They're both more or less the same. Unless your Aldi is really small and the Lidl much bigger, I don't think it's worth the extra drive

KleineDracheKokosnuss · 07/07/2022 08:30

@livingthegoodlife pitta seems to have disappeared from Aldi in recent weeks. V annoying. Hopefully it will return soon.

PeopleRStrange · 07/07/2022 08:33

I find Lidl has a better range, and some things are better quality (the fancy pizza), but I spend more there, it's further away, and the checkout queues are terrible(in my local Lidl, ok further afield), so I usually shop at my local Aldi

@livingthegoodlife pitta seems to have disappeared from Aldi in recent weeks. V annoying. Hopefully it will return soon.

In my Aldi, Pitta has been replaced with "easy fill pitta" which is nothing like a pitta, more like a bread consistency

Thestoppedfan · 07/07/2022 08:36

I prefer Lidl and I find the meat to be much better than all the other supermarkets. I’m not a fan of aldi and the fruit just doesn’t seem to last very long.

Kendodd · 07/07/2022 08:37

Lidl's because of the bakery.

ReviewingTheSituation · 07/07/2022 08:46

I used to shop at Aldi and ignored Lidl, because I couldn't be bothered to 'learn' another supermarket (layout etc), but then a new Lidl opened near work and I was instantly converted. I had a brief dalliance with Aldi again at Christmas and vowed never to return.

I prefer Lidl because...
More loose fruit and veg (which is all great quality at both my home and work stores)
More spacious layout - don't feel quite as hemmed in as I do in Aldi, where the aisles are narrower and it always feels more crowded
More 'destination' products (things I now won't buy elsewhere)
Better beer selection (by a long way)
International aisle
Central aisle is less dominant - still there, but not as much of a focus
More good deals on brands (even if these are intermittent)
Wider range in general - seems to be less I can't get there

The only thing I think isn't as good is their own brand chocolate.

Coastalcreeksider · 07/07/2022 09:03

I shop in both during the week, I like Aldi as they have a slightly better range of some products and their staff are friendly in the Aldi I use.

Lidl's bakery is fab and Aldi don't have one but the staff I've found over the years aren't that friendly, occasionally you get a really nice helpful one but within a couple of months, they've left leaving just the miserable unfriendly ones. I've used the same Lidl for about 15 years.

BertieBotts · 07/07/2022 09:04

Stay with the closer one. Fuel isn't cheap. I much prefer Aldi to Lidl so it must be personal preference.

MrsSkylerWhite · 07/07/2022 09:05

Like both but find Aldi’s fruit and veg better. It’s often a bit tired in Lidl.
