If you've switched to save money, then it's probably not worth the cost of petrol and your time to drive 20 mins, unless you're shopping for a large family.

I prefer Lidl and I find the meat to be much better than all the other supermarkets. I’m not a fan of aldi and the fruit just doesn’t seem to last very long.

Oh now I find the opposite - Aldi's fruit has always been great, Lidl very hit and miss. Often open the packet to find some of it mouldy.

Cervinia · 10/07/2022 21:05

I prefer Lidl, the fresh meat at Aldi is never great IMO.

that said it depends on your branch, ours is very large and brand new, DDs is tiny and scruffy and rather like an old Netto.

xogossipgirlxo · 12/07/2022 13:57

I prefer Lidl, mine is always well stocked, but I'm not too fussy if I'm near Aldi. I think they have nice range of toiletries and household products. I love Lidl loalty scheme though and I wish Aldi did something similar. Or maybe there is one that I'm not aware of?

scarybiscuit · 14/07/2022 20:38

Aldi slightly better but certain lidl bits are better I do both as Lidl is on the way home from Aldi . I am a fussy bugger Waitrose and m n s but I have switched lots of things and saved loads. My fav thing is every week there is something new to try and stores are smaller so I’m in and out.

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 14/07/2022 20:58

Aldi Is way better for us. Veg, fruit and meat is always good quality but Lidl do better baked goods.

TheClitterati · 21/07/2022 17:17

They are very similar.

Aldi's Cinnamon Chip cereal is much better than Lidl's.

If you spend over £200 pcm in Lidl you get £10 off voucher (if you use the ap when you shop)

MikeWozniaksMoustache · 21/07/2022 17:21

It absolutely depends on your local stores. Lidl near me is great but the Lidl near my parents is awful for limited stock, poor quality fruit etc. I have 2 Aldi close by, one is usually good the other is fucking atrocious and the fruit is always mouldy

MikeWozniaksMoustache · 21/07/2022 17:22

Though Lidl is worth the bakery alone imo 😂🐷

LaWench · 24/07/2022 08:43

I generally shop at Lidl as its closest. I love the bakery. However we have a large Aldi which I do prefer, the range is far superior and they don't have the stock issues that Lidl have had.

ThorsBedazzler · 24/07/2022 08:51

It can depend on the shop. In one nearby town, the aldi is shocking - badly stocked, poor range of food and somehow I always feel like I'm doing a midnight raid on a supermarket during the zombie apocalypse. The lidl across the road from it is lovely, clean, big range of stock and good quality fruit and veg.

In another town, the Lidl appears to stock the week old rejects from all other lidls in a 90 mile radius. With the stock being kicked the whole journey.

A third town's Aldi is fab, good quality fruit and veg, stock levels good and it feels like I'm a human shopping in a human supermarket for food I can eat.

Genuinely depends on the actual shop and this bears no relation to what town or city it is in.

CornishGem1975 · 24/07/2022 08:57

I used to prefer Aldi but switched to Lidl when I new one opened nearby. Went back to Aldi recently and thought it was awful. I like that Lidl has some nice branded bits and also the international weeks (which may not be authentic but they switch it up a bit). Also like the bakery at Lidl. Never enough tills open at Lidl though.

Fatballs · 24/07/2022 08:58

I prefer Aldi, due to distance. The nearest Lidl must be over twenty miles away, Aldi half that.

Dalaidramailama · 24/07/2022 09:00

Neither now unless you want a shopping experience in the middle of the week that’s equivalent to a Christmas Eve food shop.

Seems the whole city have decided to start shopping at Aldi. It’s ridiculously packed and people are aggressive in there now.

cookiecreammpie · 24/07/2022 09:02

I like both but find that my local Lidl seems to have some kind of problem with stocking the shelves. Whole shelves with nothing on them and you just know it's all in the back. Last week there was no juice or baby wipes at all. I also don't like where they have the themed week and you go in a day later to buy the same product but you'll never find it in there again.

barelyfunctional · 24/07/2022 09:08

Of the ones in my town, Aldi always seems low on stock and the fruit and veg is always a bit off. Our Lidl has much better stock, fresher fruit and veg, plus the bakery section is great.

Isthislove4ever · 24/07/2022 15:00

Lidl sells more brands than Aldi (not just as a special buy) so if you're a brand person that may be better for you.
Lidl also has an amazing fresh bakery section.

Other than that I don't find much difference between them, and price wise they're pretty similar. I can't always get everything I need from either of them though (eg, Horlicks type drink), which is a pain.

I do find that in our closest Lidl, the fruit doesn't keep as well as the fruit from Aldi does and atm Aldi is much closer to us and although they are building 2 new Lidls a bit closer to us, Aldi will still be closer by either 2.2 miles or 6.4 miles (one way), which makes a difference with the way petrol prices are going.

NatMoz · 24/07/2022 15:14

I went to Aldi for the first time in ages yesterday, it was ok but no branded stuff (cadburys, walkers etc). Had to go to Lidl today to buy Cow & Gate baby formula as Aldi only had their own brand. I do really enjoy Lidl's bakery including their sourdough bread for £1.39

caringcarer · 24/07/2022 15:22

We have both but I prefer Aldi.

BigFatLiar · 24/07/2022 15:22

They're much of a muchness, I doubt there's any great difference between them unless you have a particular fondness for specific items. I would say though that recently Aldis veg has been a bit disappointing.

YouLookinSusBro · 24/07/2022 15:32

I like both but prefer Lidl for a lot of the reasons mentioned already. Also the reward scheme is fantastic and has saved me a lot of money

Lovemusic33 · 24/07/2022 15:36

Lidl is better for the bakery section (Aldi doesn’t have this) and for its veg boxes but I prefer Aldi for meat, veggies and pizza.

dodobookends · 24/07/2022 15:36

I prefer Aldi on the whole, particularly their produce and frozen fish and chocolate, but the Lidl fresh bread counter is great.

LidlCinnamonBun · 24/07/2022 15:37

I prefer Lidl.

ChillyB · 24/07/2022 15:37

Lidl a million times over. our Aldi is shockingly bad. Nothing from there keeps at all, and often even the fruit and veg on display is off! Never had that problem in Lidl.
