Called round to dparents earlier. Was I meant to? Probably not. But meh. She needed to give me the lasagne she’d cooked for our dinner. (Even when poorly that woman is a legend!)

lifelongfrugaleer · 21/02/2022 19:02

All bets are off after Thursday em so I can’t see a couple of days making a difference

lifelongfrugaleer · 21/02/2022 19:02

Get 5 minutes to watch tv and fucking not working

ememem84 · 21/02/2022 19:09

To be fair life we’ve been very low restrictions here for a while now. Parents aren’t legally meant to isolate. It’s just suggested.

CurlsandCurves · 21/02/2022 20:51

Hope your folks are ok @ememem84 xx

@marthasmum thanks. I’d recommend doing a shout out in your local Facebook page for a good GasSafe registered engineer, or ask anyone local friends neighbours. Personal recommendation is the best way to go. And as for brands DH always went with Worcester Bosch or Baxi. Hope you get sorted.

Feeling better in myself. It’s definitely hormonal, so I just need to keep an eye on the calendar so I can recognise it and deal with it as best I can.

Weekly shop went really well, within budget and I bought treats like choc bars, olives (for me), and snacky stuff as DS2 is on half term this week and is a human dustbin.

Alfiemoon1 · 21/02/2022 23:12

Hope your parents are ok em great they have cat face to look after them
Sorry you aren’t feeling great curls
Nsd.
The wind finally seems to have died down it has been worse than last week I didn’t get a wink of sleep last night things rattling around thankfully no damage
Dmil is finally being released from hospital back to her care home on Wednesday fingers crossed it happens this time as we have been told that numerous times

Unescorted · 22/02/2022 06:55

Martha BG are shockers. I love Curls idea or if you don't want a CC debt look at Credit Unions. They are really good for loans for things like boilers. You can search for your local one here. If you are a union member they quite often have a CU too ....well at least mine does.

em I hope your parents are OK and making a speedy recovery.

Wolf hope you didn't float away. Franklin caused so much more damage here than Eunice. DS nearly got stuck in town... he went to college and a tree came down across the train line. Fortunately it was cleared before home time.

Mrs I keep thinking they have sent things through more than once whenever they tell me the till total. Groceries are going through the roof.

I can't remember if I reported yesterday & don't want to scroll back & lose yet another post.... Croissants - better than Aldi, slightly overcooked so not as good as the Co-op. Unfortunately worth the effort.

Bg are expensive I agree.
Nad planned today tho kids might need pocket money topped up

Lovemaltesers · 22/02/2022 14:44

Had my interview, didn’t get it 🙁 Location was a nightmare, parking would be a nightmare and would make picking up DC a pain, and on reflection due to location, full time would have been a pain too. It would have been nice to have been offered the job as would have liked the actual job itself though! Bah.

Lovemaltesers · 22/02/2022 14:45

I couldn’t face getting feedback this time. Last time was so brutal, I struggled to actually go into the interview this time.

marthasmum · 22/02/2022 15:52

Well done love for attending then. I agree, would be nice to be offered but sounds like it wouldn’t have suited you if they did offer. In my experience post interview feedback is often pants, I think many people are uncomfortable with giving constructive feedback and so don’t do it well.
Grumpy day here I’m afraid. I am a bit miserable due to finances and spending first part of time off catching up with PhD work (and being nowhere near caught up, I could spend all the rest of the week doing it).
DS2 picks up on atmosphere and is being rude and difficult. Just left for work not having eaten anything today - he was rude to both of us so I said I wouldn’t give him a lift or make him food. It’s only 2 hours work and a 20 min walk but now I feel crap and I’m sure he does. Going to give it up and go on a run to hopefully release some endorphins!

marthasmum · 22/02/2022 15:53

Just to clarify - I didn’t refuse to feed him - he is 15 and plenty of food in the fridge 😳

Mrsmadevans · 22/02/2022 16:03

Unescorted you did report here yesterday Grin
I know, the food bill has gone up so much. l am trying my best to cut down but it's nigh on impossible, l am popping in the shops most days now to get the bargains tbh. Although l have just spent 20 on 2 pizza deals in M&S because they are really lovely and easy to cook and a good deal l feel Smile
Glad your Dps are doing well Em such a relief for you Smile
Love so sorry you didn't get the job, my daughter went for an interview last week and theygave it to the person who had been filling in for the past 3 months Flowers
Martha enjoy your next 4 days off ...heaven Smile
It's been lovely here today thank God, sunny and warm just lovely Smile
Hope it is nice with everyone too Smile

lifelongfrugaleer · 22/02/2022 16:57

Ah sorry to hear that love but as you say it would have been a pita
I amazonsinned again today £7 book.

ememem84 · 22/02/2022 18:44

I miss catface.

lifelongfrugaleer · 22/02/2022 19:46
Sad
northender · 22/02/2022 19:54

We lost a roof tile during storm Franklin and a fence panel, but otherwise unscathed. Neighbour is sorting new panels so we will pay half. Can't see where the roof tile has come from, but will get roofer to have a look, he is a legend but will be very busy at the minute I presume.
Spent £120 on a pair of new Hoka trainers but omg they are so worth it, it feels like walking on air.
Sitting here in fake Oodie trying to avoid an essay on compassionate leadership [sigh]. Good luck with the PhD Marthasmum
Baxi boilers are great. We had a new one fitted 18 months ago approx £1400 I think.
Your mum is a star Em

CurlsandCurves · 22/02/2022 20:51

Great idea re credit unions @Unescorted, they’re very much unsung heroes.

Sorry about the job @Lovemaltesers but it sounds like it wasn’t the right fit for you anyway. Fingers crossed something awesome will come along.

DS had an early finish at work, and so spent the day with his mates. Mini golf, bought himself some new trainers, went for a Nando's. Bless him it was well needed. For a 16 year old he works damn hard, got himself up and out the door at 4am today. I’m so proud of him I could burst sometimes!

DS2 is out roller skating with his friends tonight. Cheap night out, £2 entry plus £2 skate hire. I’ve given him enough to get food and drinks too.

And in a woohoo moment I paid off our tax credits overpayment! Never have to deal with them ever again, all being well.

Alfiemoon1 · 22/02/2022 21:12

Sorry to hear about the job love
Well done on paying off the tax credits curls my ds bought new computer parts the other day nearly £800 worth I didn’t see the point or think it was worth it but he had saved up from his part time job he fits in around college so it was upto him but I was proud he managed to save that amount for something he wanted

I didn’t sleep well again last night can’t even blame a storm was tired all evening then bing I was wide awake all night so hopefully will sleep tonight

Spends today £3.50 needed bread and bought ds some sweets

northender · 22/02/2022 23:39

Read back & sorry to hear about the job love
Feel I need to explain my trainer spend on a frugal thread! Have had my current pair 4 years, they've been fab & are my only pair, so price per wear is very low.

marthasmum · 23/02/2022 12:55

norrh sounds like you are very economical with footwear! I am a one pair of trainers girl too.
Thanks everyone for the tips about boilers. We've gone with a Worcester Bosch as we consistently heard good things about them everywhere we looked. Appreciate the tip about local tradesmen curls but we needed it pretty quick as our old one isn't working properly. So gone with a company called heatable who do all the fitting for you (and are cheaper than British Gas etc). Best day fitting which is amazing. £2265 including smart controls which apparently save you more money as you can tinker with the settings (DP was sceptical) and a limestone reducing thingy.
We had to get a loan which was quite hilarious as we did it jointly. DP k owe nothing about our financial affairs and couldn't answer the security questions about our account, I had to keep prompting him and the bank man told me off Grin
Has ended up we're paying £217 a month for an extended loan which covers the remaining amount of our car loan, the boiler, some credit card debt and a new carpet (also for heating purposes as the room without is very cold). That's the same as I was paying for the car loan and for only 16 months more, plus gained £100 a month that I was paying on credit card debit.
I'm really hoping no more unexpected large bills now🤞🏻
And definitely nothing else on the credit card...that was Xmas over spending.
Hope everyone is doing ok and no one is at risk of flooding

lifelongfrugaleer · 23/02/2022 14:15

That’s a decent deal Martha
Good trainers are soo worth the ££££

lifelongfrugaleer · 24/02/2022 07:33

Should have filled the car yesterday

lifelongfrugaleer · 24/02/2022 11:53

£1.50 a litre robbing bastards
£65 trainers for ds but only £55 cash. £2.80 donut as it’s meant to be the dogs wotsits

AdoraBell · 24/02/2022 11:54

I told DH oil would go over 100 last week, he thought I was mad.

Hope your parents recover quickly em

Sorry about the job situation love

Hope the boiler gets sorted soon Martha

Only spend this week £84 grocery delivery. DH is in London for meetings. Drove to Kent Tuesday to stay at his DF’s. Back home later today. He didn’t fill the car up before he left🤦‍♀️.
