£36 lidl on bits for hols - cheap hand wash, shower gel etc, bread and spread for the holiday cottage

Rain bad here and I've spent the morning on at the council about the risk of flooding and going out and clearing leaf mold out the top of the drain covers. Why they are never properly prepared for bad weather I do not know. I keep pointing out to them that they spend more rectifying flood damage than they'd spend doing basic prevention. They love getting a call/email from me. Honest ! Wink

May find my way to the pub earlier. But not if the weather stays like this

lifelongfrugaleer · 20/02/2022 13:29

I need baking/ over ware. Trying to decide beyeen sainsburys heavy and scoville . Impressed with the scoville frying pans

ememem84 · 20/02/2022 14:17

£41 riding. Owed £1 from Tuesdays Jump lesson. Cooking a chicken for lunch.

DH in a strip today because nz are vaccinating 5 and over (supposedly) and are not letting the unvaxxed in anywhere. We are meant to go at Christmas and ds will be 5. But we can’t vaccinate him (nor will I just for the sake of a holiday).

Sh is also confused why fil wasn’t at home today. Because he wasn’t there DH and the kids “had to” stay in the car whilst I rode. So he’s grumpy. They absolutely didn’t have to. They could have gone to the park or something. Sigh.

Wolfcub · 20/02/2022 15:24

Sainsburys heavy every time

I'm now on complaint number three to the council. If we don't flood it'll be a miracle.

Unescorted · 20/02/2022 15:53

Life buy one in your favourite size & try it out. Then go back for more. I have bought so many baking tins & sheets only for them to gather dust at the back of the cupboard.

Today's stress bake is croissants.

Wolf I hope you aren't in the little strip of rain that has been stalled over us all day.... if so in about 20-30 minutes you are going to get one huge downpour.

Mrsmadevans · 20/02/2022 16:12

Storm Franklin now then, hey ho! Shock

Happierwithouthim · 20/02/2022 16:30

I haven't left the house today but have spent €669 on IKEA online.

Shelving for dds room, a wall cabinet for kitchen & 3 grenby units to make a mini pantry in kitchen

Wolfcub · 20/02/2022 16:39

Unescorted we got the downpour. I was outside at the time. I'm still wet!

I am in the mood to wage war with the council. If I do flood today then I'm going to make sure the insurers know exactly where the blame sits. Last time I said the council couldn't have done anything to prevent the flood (although in hindsight I was wrong), this time it's a very different matter and they have been repeatedly warned of the flood risk. Sadly I didn't take pictures when their trash grill cleaning guy came last week and didn't actually clean the trash grill - wish I had now

lifelongfrugaleer · 20/02/2022 16:55

I’ve gone for scoville ££££

lifelongfrugaleer · 20/02/2022 16:57

Soaking and freezing wind here now. Brrr

Alfiemoon1 · 20/02/2022 18:27

We’ve had a lovely weekend with dd home spends yesterday £109 Morrisons which included stuff for dd to take to university with her £8 dog food £10 home bargains on cleaning stuff and toiletries for dd

Nsd today it’s cold wet and windy so I’ve not been out apart from to take the dog out and have just dropped dd off at my sisters as she is taking her back to the university house.

Unescorted · 21/02/2022 07:02

Alfie we have had the I am soooooooo skint call too. DD is filling in the hardship fund forms as we speak. At least it is forcing her to budget to the end of term... McD for breakfast is no longer an option.

Croissants are in the oven - there are advantages to being wide awake at 4:30. So far they look almost as if I know what I am doing. I worry that they will be better than the CoOp ones.... it is easier to be first in queue than making them from scratch. However it is significantly cheaper to make my own.... and possibly works out that it is worth more than NMW. in terms of time. If I lived near a Lidl this would not be happening.

The weather here is really gash - flooding, wind and still it rains and lashes. Eunice was a doozy compared to this.

lifelongfrugaleer · 21/02/2022 07:12

Doozy is a good work. Blowing a hoolie here

marthasmum · 21/02/2022 07:44

Yes, and here. No trains and we nearly flooded yesterday (that’s our area, not us - we are very lucky our house is on slightly higher ground).
wolf I hope you are ok.
We had the emergency plumber round for our boiler (covered under emergency assistance policy) but turns out is beyond economical repair. Hopefully we get £250 towards a new one from the policy. Looking at around £2000 I think which is going to either have to go on credit card or monthly repayments with British Gas. That’s my holiday abroad fund gone I think.

CurlsandCurves · 21/02/2022 08:19

Morning all,

Still blowing a gale and raining hard here. Lots of roads flooded, the river has burst its banks.

@marthasmum sorry to hear about your boiler. DH is a plumber and from my experience British Gas are massively expensive compared to getting someone independent to supply and fit a boiler. Most good boilers come with a 5-7 year warranty so if anything goes wrong you’re covered. What I’m saying is if you can, putting on a credit card and paying it off that way will probably be cheaper than a BG payment plan.

Such a shame it’s potentially wiped your holiday plans, these things never happen at a good time.

Off work today, then in the rest of the week. Not sure if it’s peri menopause or what but my mental health has been dreadful recently. Crying at the drop of a hat, snapping at DH and the kids, feeling very very low. I’m not depressed, been there had that so I know it’s not that. I’m just feeling in a funk and I can’t snap out of it! So today I’m doing an exercise class, getting the weekly shop done and then hoping to relax for a bit.

ememem84 · 21/02/2022 11:32

It never rains but it pours. Impromptu day off here with the kids. Both dparents have covid.
They are symptomatic. More worried about ddad than dm as ddad has copd (albeit mild). But still.

lifelongfrugaleer · 21/02/2022 11:55

Oh no em. Hope they come though ok

ememem84 · 21/02/2022 11:57

I’m sure they’ll be ok. Dm is “so ill” she’s up dressed cleaning the house with a full face of make up.

They’ve been for their pcr tests this morning.

They also have nurse catface to look after them

lifelongfrugaleer · 21/02/2022 12:47

Lol

ememem84 · 21/02/2022 12:48

Nurse catface is so far clambering all over ddad. Not leaving him alone. She’s funny. Dm keeps sending me updates

Mrsmadevans · 21/02/2022 14:02

Wolf hope you haven't flooded Flowers
Martha Flowers sorry about your boiler lovely
Em hope your Ddad is ok lovely thankfully your Mum sounds in good spirits Flowers
Curls sorry you are not feeling right bless you Flowers
Aldi 15 pounds on 3 x 9 packs of toilet rolls and a few other bits Hmm
Sun just come out stopped rain yay!
Have a good day everyone Smile

ememem84 · 21/02/2022 16:34

Just spoken to dm. They’re ok. Ddad apparently felt way worse Saturday and yesterday just thought to do a lft today because they were meant to have the kiddos as usual. Call from dm at around 8 “dads tested positive”. Then call again from dm about 20 minutes later “we’ve done the double. Me too” they are both so apologetic for letting me down.

lifelongfrugaleer · 21/02/2022 17:55

Ah catface is a good nurse.
Can’t be helped bless them

marthasmum · 21/02/2022 18:30

Oo curls thank you for that tip, I appreciate that. I will compare prices. Sorry to hear you are not feeling right, I relate to that and always find exercise helpful - a cliche I know but it calms me down when I'm grumpy and snappy.
em that's a worry but it sounds like they will hopefully have a mild case - like the queen!
-mrs glad the sun is shining for you.
-unescorted croissants sound lovely. Stress baking is a creative use of stress! Loving gash and doozy too Smile
I have 4 days off now, need to switch my work head off and thing of cheap ways to entertain teenagers!
