northender · 18/02/2022 15:33

Brilliant job news Alfie
I think half term this week is just in the NW unescorted
Very windy and cold here. I'm on a study day so sitting at the computer with my fake Oodie on! It is very snug & frugal, no need to turn the heating up.
Dh & dd have gone to Liverpool for the day, not frugal but will do them both good I think.
Ds continues to get his life in order, he has been to the gym again this morning & has been seen vacuuming and operating the washing machine this week....shock! He has his cricket coaching assessment tonight.
We're off to stay overnight with friends tomorrow, just me & dh. It's 2 of our best friends & they missed my 50th bash so it's a belated birthday celebration, really looking forward to it.

Awesome news Alfie

Gen I love a good freezer fossick

The walk started in a brisk breeze and ended in a howling gale with us wet through. We decided not to go to the cafe as home and baths seemed far more appealing. I got distracted by Big Jet TV so I am now cold.

Have fun north

HumbugWhale · 18/02/2022 19:35

Yay! Congratulations Alfie.

Windy here but not too bad, hope you are all safe.

Half term at last - thank goodness!

marthasmum · 18/02/2022 21:45

Fell off the thread a bit as work has been extremely busy. Had to cancel a day of leave so will be off from next Tues instead of the whole week, but have got the big jobs out of the way.
gen good news on the vasectomy reversal, 🤞🏻 for you. It feels so hard that you have to accrue all that debt.
humbug hope you are finished for the week too
north glad your DS is doing well. I’ve just had a chat with DS1, he was telling me his friends are all smoking/ vaping but he’s not up for it, just hope it lasts!!
unescorted glad you got out with your friend
mrs glad you are safe, hope it’s still the same
-alfie fab news! Well done you! Hope DD is still staying away from the boyfriend
My sister is hopefully visiting tomorrow if the weather settles (she’s down south). Really looking forward to it as we always have a great laugh with all the kids.
Keep safe everyone

grannycake · 19/02/2022 04:47

Congratulations alfie Hoping for a quiet weekend

Startagaintoday · 19/02/2022 05:24

Congrats @Alfiemoon1. @grannycake you are up eatly. Journey was fine yesterday. Came back to fence carnage all round is but ours seems ok. Spent £27 in marks and Spencer.

Gensola · 19/02/2022 07:48

marthas thank you Flowers we have come to the very hard decision that if the vasectomy reversal doesn’t work we will stop trying. We have spent £30,000 on IVF and the VR combined and we just can’t keep spending like this. I have about £9k of bank loans which are taken £279 a month on a fixed term plus DH has 3k ish left on credit cards from IVF drugs which are charged separately.
Unless we win the lottery or similar we can’t keep up with it. So we will have to hope the VR is successful - surgeon said 30% chance which is actually better odds than IVF.

Taking MIL out for lunch today, other than that I have a lot of work to do this weekend as I’m giving a lecture this week so need to prepare that as well as my usual teaching etc. Payday on Friday, can’t come soon enough!

lifelongfrugaleer · 19/02/2022 08:29

Ah gen that’s a tough decision but i understand why

Lovemaltesers · 19/02/2022 08:34

Flowers gen

Urgh, headache/very sick yesterday, still feeling fragile today. Had been a very stressful week. I’m so very glad this half term is over!

Finally got the ££s from insurance company for the replacement car seats after chasing them up.

lifelongfrugaleer · 19/02/2022 08:58

Hope you get some rest love. And feel better soon

ememem84 · 19/02/2022 09:27

alfie great news!!

Been quiet here. Lots on.

Went up to the house yesterday and the walls and chimney stack are down. We are officially open plan now. Eeeek. Exciting!

Taking ds to dinosaur show today - like walking with dinosaurs.

Dm not well this week. Ddad had to call dr and the paramedic who turned up was from all accounts amazing. Their neighbour is an ex nurse and diagnosed mum with severe migraines. Paramedic agreed. Poor mum on tues evening had the flashy lights then bad stomach passed out a few times threw up over ddad and stinking headache.

Poor dad was scared. And neither of them thought to let me know at the time. Because they didn’t want to worry me. Anyway. All ok now. Dm feeling a bit fuzzy headed which is normal after migraine. But she’s scared it will happen again.

Told her to watch for the warning signs - flashy lights are the main one for me. And when it happens get straight home/to bed as applicable and take meds.

CurlsandCurves · 19/02/2022 09:59

Congratulations @Alfiemoon1 so chuffed for you!

Hugs to you and DH @Gensola sounds like it’s been a very tough journey for you both xx

Hope your mums ok now @ememem84

Not much going on here today, just housey stuff. A colleague is likely to be off for the next week or so due to her dad sadly in end of life care, so I’ve potentially got a very busy work week next week. Need to make sure I’m on top of everything, meals planned etc. I hate feeling disorganised and out of control.
Good thing about being so busy is less opportunity to spend money, I’m hoping to end the month being able to add more to my savings, if I can just sit tight and not buy anything stupid!

lifelongfrugaleer · 19/02/2022 11:13

Sorry to hear dm was unwell em. Mil is exactly like that will struggle on as don’t want to bother us.

Our out today. All paid for in advance sausage and cider festival

Alfiemoon1 · 19/02/2022 11:19

Morning all thank you for the congratulations had a bit of a wobble wondering if I was doing the right thing what if I don’t like this job either but I will never know if I don’t try it out

Hope dm is ok Em

Dd is home for the weekend I hope I am wrong but I think she is still in touch with the boyfriend and stays at the university house Monday to Wednesday and then goes to his but when I have gentle discussed this she denies it so I am leaving it. She’s in her final year of university so under enough stress It her choice I’ve never stopped her seeing him given everything that came out over Christmas as to how awful and abusive he is I understand why she doesn’t want to be honest. It will come out in the end and no doubt we will have to go through all the drama again he won’t change he’s a narcissist and why would he want to change when he’s got her doing everything for him.
The coming to visit us this weekend probably coincides with her running out of money and needing a food shop doing which is fine it is nice to see her anyway
Weather is miserable again cold and wet but at least the storm wasn’t as bad as they predicted not sure what we are doing today as I am the only one up so far dh ds and dd are all still in bed

Have a good day everyone

Bornlazy · 19/02/2022 12:33

Typed a message yesterday and then lost it 🙈

Congratulations Alfie. Nothing ventured nothing gained and hopefully you will like this new job a lot more than your last one. You're doing a great job with dd under frustrating circumstances. Hope your weekend is a good one.

em your kitchen is coming along nicely. Hope it continues at that pace. How frightening for your dm. Does she normally suffer from migraines?

Gen I hope the reversal works. You've given so much to this it must be so emotionally draining.

north enjoy your night away.

Enjoy half term everyone that's been holding out for it.

Need to get back on the meal planning. I've been in a real rut recently and I've let everything slide which doesn't help my mood. I need a good kick up the bum to motivate me.

Gensola · 19/02/2022 14:13

Thanks born

Congrats alfie

Meal planned up to payday - luckily have absolutely loads of freezer stuff we cooked earlier in month, some things I’m really looking forward to eating so it doesn’t feel a hardship tbh.

AdoraBell · 19/02/2022 16:47

NSD

Wolfcub · 19/02/2022 19:18

Very bloody spendy day with a delayed Xmas present for ds from Christmas 2020! Jeez am skint now. Also booked a holiday for next week I've been hovering over the booking button for three weeks waiting for the price to drop and it did at 8.30 this morning, also filled up with petrol which makes me want to cry

Unescorted · 19/02/2022 20:34

Wolf petrol is soooooooooo expensive. It makes me want to cry too.

Gen That is hard. I have deleted a shite paragraph of platitudes and comma buts. I am hoping for the best possible outcome for you and your dh, but will be here with hugs and love if it doesn't happen. xxx

em hope your mum is OK. Migraines can be so scary & at that age could be so many other things that are even scarier. Wishing her a speedy recovery.

Alfie we are here to hold your hand & listen to your rants.

I am pleased to see we have all made it through Eunice. I had to rescue the bins from next door before some poor soul ran into them around the blind bend we live on. That was the limit of my storm excitement.

Gensola · 20/02/2022 08:29

Thanks unescorted ♥️

Might actually get an NSD today 😅 depends on whether I crack and order more protein bars or accept I need to eat the less nice ones first.

Lots to do to prep for the week plus get my exercise in, my steps were very bad on Friday because of storm and then Sat because we had a 4 hour round trip to see MIL who is housebound so there was a lot of sitting.

lifelongfrugaleer · 20/02/2022 08:54

Nasty protein bars are well nasty. I would buy the nice ones and get rid of the rest.

No spends on top of pre spend yesterday so all good, nsd planned today
Windy again here though today.
