@ememem84 that sounds horrid, sorry you’re going through that right now. DH sounds like he needs a kick up the arse. Hope today is a better day for you all! Flowers
that he does.

SingToTheSky · 26/07/2021 11:26

Not at all happier - the sign of a new start 💐💜

daintydaisies · 26/07/2021 15:58

@Happierwithouthim not at all!! My DP and I are so excited to get to that point! We have a gruelling 8ish months ahead before we get to that stage unfortunately 🤣

marthasmum · 26/07/2021 15:59

Sympathies em and wolf they sound like rubbish days. Wolf I feel for you trying to get some time off and ending up with more stress. My DS2 is very reactive to any kind of stress and we have had some major kick offs eg broken windows during lockdown which leave me feeling rubbish.
I’m off this week, so far today done lots of jobs (cooking veg box soup, setting up online bank account for DS2, GP appointment for DS1 who is still coughing, lots of washing). So going to sit in the garden with my book.
I got upset last week as we’d discussed going camping this week but then I hadn’t sorted it and neither did DP. I am the driver in those kinds of things and he doesn’t really take initiative. As it turns out DS2 is isolating til thurs so no chance for family days out til then. So now I am feeling less resentful I’m trying to make the most of relaxing at home…I’m not generally very good at relaxing!!
NSF today but Friday will be spendy as I’m getting a towbar fitted. DD and DS1 are into mountain biking and someone has offered me a free (old) bike rack. Does anyone know anything about Towbars??
I can pay £585 and get a removable one- the only reason I’m considering it is that I have a big car already and I’m not the worlds best at parking, and I can just see me forgetting about the towbar and bumping someone.
But it’s £450 for non removable so quite a difference.

Happierwithouthim · 26/07/2021 17:35

Marthasmum I've got a hitch which has probably only been used once, handy for parking against a wall because you'll touch the tow bar off the wall instead of your bumper.

€32.40 for cinema including one large popcorn, will get drinks & sweets in Aldi. I normally do sun morning cheapie sessions so this is a big treat.

marthasmum · 26/07/2021 17:41

Good point happier! Think you may just have saved me some money 😂
On another point I feel my veg box has been money well spent, I’ve enjoyed cooking and eating some more varied stuff. DS2 and I had a green smoothie with spinach - result as I would never get him to eat that normally.
And the freezer is full happier!

MeadowHay · 26/07/2021 18:36

Spends: £50 on a zoom pregnancy yoga course which I am going to start tonight. Ummed and aahed about it for weeks but signed up at the last min, I'm sure it will really do me good.

lifelongfrugaleer · 26/07/2021 19:49

I wouldn’t get a removable tow bar. They are robust and don’t stick out that much.
£13 Aldi
Sounds tough Mrs, nothing happens without me pushing and it pisses me off tbh. Enjoy the garden

Happierwithouthim · 26/07/2021 20:23

Cinema treats & some polyfilla & fairy non bio as ds has a reaction to washing liquid possibly & washing machine repair guy pleaded with me to change back to powder as he said liquids are destroying washing machines

€26:48 €11:50 for cinema feast

You guys are knowledgable about decorating - if a wall looks like this in places (like layers of paint have chipped off) what’s the best way to deal with it? Primer/undercoat? Stripping the whole lot? Some kind of filler? I am absolutely clueless 😳

Happierwithouthim · 27/07/2021 11:07

I would think filler but a few coats rather than thick lumps

ememem84 · 27/07/2021 11:17

agree - filler. thin layers. let it dry thoroughly before whacking the next layer on.

then might have to repaint the entire wall so it doesn't look patchy.

Better day here today. the dc had a lovely time with dparents yesterday - thoroughly exhausted. i slept in dd's room last night on the air bed. she woke up a lot, but only for 5 minutes or so and then i told her to go back to sleep and she did. so no screaming. i think it's teeth. because she's so bloody dribbly. much better sleep for everyone. hoorah.

dh has gone out - he took the dc to nursery and he's gone to the gym. when he gets back i'm breaking for lunch and we're going to go and see the kitchen guy and choose cabinets and worktops. then will possibly have to sign a contract...eep. but it doesn't look like it'll happen until 2022 at the earliest as all trades are booked up. so not actually a huge issue. time to plan...

i also need to buy things to make dd's birthday cake. her birthday is thursday so i want the cake done and dusted by Wednesday evening so its ready for her to see on Thursday morning. to save time and stress 'm going to make the sponge ad frosting tonight i think. or this afternoon. and then decorate tomorrow evening. i'm not going for overly complicated - just a bunny face. but if i can't get on with the frosting ears i have a backup and can easily change the design. yay.

Happierwithouthim · 27/07/2021 13:22

Em you reminded me dd wants to make a carrot cake for her father on Friday, ingredients purchased last week.

MeadowHay · 27/07/2021 13:43

Ugh I feel so ill with anxiety today, I can't work properly. The midwife has booked me in for a growth scan tomorrow and I know logically fundal height measurements are not very accurate but I can't help feeling so worried about it. Going to see if I can access the telephone counselling that my work healthcare plan thing offers as I'm really not coping with my anxiety anymore.

Spends: £19.20 on groceries.

Mmmm cake. I just want to eat sugary crap non stop when I feel this anxious!

ememem84 · 27/07/2021 13:59

ok. so we have just hypothetically spent GBP15500 on a new kitchen.

it is pricey. but it's what we want. and will look fab-u-lous.

black matt "downstairs cabinets" "upstairs" cabinets are a wood effect - no handles. polished concrete esque worktops. black sink and tap.

it is so far removed from what i though i wanted.

pin.it/7fAW0iJ this is what i thought i wanted.

pin.it/DwSYS5l this is similar to what we're getting.

Happierwithouthim · 27/07/2021 15:16

Wow em massively different. The first kitchen is so light and bright & country style, second is modern & apartment like, why the change of heart?

Happierwithouthim · 27/07/2021 15:16

Meadow I hope you get some help ThanksCake

Wolfcub · 27/07/2021 15:17

I really like it Em, especially if you have a bright open space

ememem84 · 27/07/2021 15:33

to be honest happier, we walked into the showroom and i was totally taken aback by the black matt kitchen they had there. it looked amazing.

we're opening up the whole of the ground floor of the house, so it'll be nice and bright and airy and light.

dh thought the darker one with the wood seemed more in keeping with the house style - its a late 70's build so not country style house at all. (i also wanted to replace our back kitchen door with a stable door...dh vetoed that idea).

i'd said to dh ages ago i wanted polished concrete somewhere in the kitchen because i love the look and feel of it. (although a lot of people had warned me off it as apparently its a bugger for staining). so the worktops are this effect. which gives the look i want without any of the hassle.

as much as i talk shit about dh sometimes a lot he does have a good eye for style.

daintydaisies · 27/07/2021 15:34

Car passed its MOT today 🥳

Todays spends:
£30 mot
£25 petrol
£4 screenwash

Desperate for payday now 🤦‍♀️

Happierwithouthim · 27/07/2021 15:37

That can totally happen you've one idea in your head & when you go in it's something totally different that's right for you.

I also like the stable door idea, well half door. My house is not country cottage style either, maybe when I put my dresser in it will lean more that way.

HumbugWhale · 27/07/2021 16:09

I love both those kitchens Em, the one you have chosen will look fab!
Hope you are ok Meadow Flowers
Trying to do one job a day over the holidays (as in an extra job, not the normal washing and stuff). This afternoon I pulled a load of weeds out of a very overgrown flower bed. Dcs helped.

SingToTheSky · 27/07/2021 16:29

Thanks will get filler! It’s the bathroom which had tatty wallpaper when we moved in, we’ve got some paint for it just to spruce it up a bit :)

marthasmum · 27/07/2021 16:29

I can see why you’ve gone for the modern one em if your house is modern.
Glad you and DH have bonded over the kitchen!
meadow hope you are ok. You are right that scans are quite routinely offered. The telephone counselling sounds a good idea.
Just a word of warning about stable doors if you are choosing one, we used to have one but replaced it with a normal door after we were burgled. Apparently they are easier to break into than a standard door…

SingToTheSky · 27/07/2021 16:31

Sorry about the anxiety meadow I hope you can get some help. I want aaaaall the carbs when I’m anxious too. 💐
