Congrats to your son Unescorted what great grades, you must be so proud and he must be delighted Smile he must have worked really hard.

I too hate coverage of A-Levels and GCSE results days. I have never watched it since my own A-Level results day 9yrs ago with the heartbreak that entailed for me and DH with our grades, changed the courses of both our lives probably and meant both of us basically having to give up on our dream careers. Makes me anxious now just thinking about it. I really feel for people.

Today should be an NSD. Had my first therapy session this morning on the phone but it was basically just information gathering and risk assessments about me etc not actual treatment. Booked in again for a fortnight to begin the CBT-based worry treatment and I've got a workbook that I need to do some reading of in advance.

In frugal/spendy news: My DF got two more valuations of this house, both of these were £200k. This is what we were all expecting - the first valuation was £230-260k which was ridiculous and clearly not right. He gifted £30k to my DSis when she bought her house so is looking to sell this house to us for £170k in th same vein. I think we will probably buy it as it's too late to buy anything else now with my impending mat leave so it's this now or wait 4-5 years til I've finished my training and have a permanent job, meanwhile house prices are rising faster than our savings so this seems like a better option. DH worried that it will affect future sale price of this if we buy it at a reduced price but I don't see why it would? I need to call the bank later to order a statement for my help-to-buy-ISA.

Alfiemoon1 · 12/08/2021 13:41

Congratulations to your son escorted. Gcse results day here as well for my ds all 4s which we are pleased with as they are passes phew.

ememem84 · 12/08/2021 13:56

well done to your ds unescorted

man i feel wiped out today and have a sore throat. have cancelled my Gym session for tomorrow just in case. see no point in trying to exercise if i'm not feeling 100

keeping my nail appointment though. as i dont think sitting whilst i get nails done will be over exerting myself.

i blame the dc for this. too much nighttime wakings has left us all utterly wiped out. i had a nap at lunchtime. a suprise nap. ffs.

Unescorted · 12/08/2021 14:15

meadow it won't effect the future sale price unless there is a clause in the sale contract that says that it must always be sold on for 15% less than market value. You will need to take advice on how it is treated for Land and Income Tax purposes ( I am guessing you will be taxed at the £200k) and also how the £30k is treated (gift? and therefore taxable only if he passes in the next 7 years).

Alfie well done for your DS too.

We have just had a man in a van call in and take an uninvited walk around my M&Ds farm. Mum popped her head out to see who it was.... he started giving her a cock & bull story about overhanging wires and trees being too close. So she played her deaf and dothery card & said she would call her daughter over ( I was behind the barn). I have never seen a man get into his car sooooo fast when I came round the corner with my work coat on. The crest logo looks like a bit like police crest from a distance.

Great gcse results there

MeadowHay · 12/08/2021 21:29

Thanks for the heads up Unescorted. It's all new to us (and to DF too tbh as he's not done this before exactly). Awful about the man in the van! Hopefully he got a shock and won't be back.

Hope you're ok Em Flowers.

I've spent half of today just eating my way through a slightly out of date box of milk tray DH found in the larder Blush

Congrats alfie and unescorted on the GCSES, that’s fab! AS results here for DD, I know they’re not as important but she got the grades she was on target for and did better than she hoped for photography so that has spurred her on.
happier lovely ring and lovely meaning
tayto sounds like you and your STBX have a reasonable relationship, or have I misread that? Hope it will soon be sorted
humbug no criticism of teachers here, you’ve had an amazingly tough 18 months
meadow just wondering if it’s too late for your dream career? Lots of people I teach come to it later in life and post kids. Or maybe your dreams have changed 😊
em hope you feel better soon
We are all excited in our house as heading off to wales for the week tomorrow with my DParents, DSis and family. We don’t live near each other and since DD was born in 2094, we’ve gone on holiday together every summer (UK beach holidays). So many lovely memories although also inevitable bickering 😂
We had to cancel last year so v special this year. Have saved up holiday spending money so was a good feeling to transfer it to my spending account!

marthasmum · 12/08/2021 23:01

DD was born in 2004…not 2094

Mrsmadevans · 12/08/2021 23:03

Martha have a lovely holiday & congratulations to your Dd Smile

northender · 12/08/2021 23:45

Well done to the dc of unescorted alfie and marthas. Good news here too, 8s & 7s across the board for dd. She was so happy, it was lovely to see. Just needs to get her college place sorted now....
Had lunch & tea out (£90) but so worth it.
Awful news tonight about the incident in Devon. Shocking for us as it is less than half a mile from where dh grew up, so we know the area well.

HumbugWhale · 13/08/2021 08:07

Great results Alfie and Unescorted, you just both be really proud of them.

I have some enormous insect bites after sitting out watching the bats last night and hoping to spot a meteor.

Mrsmadevans · 13/08/2021 08:45

North congratulations to your Dd you must be so proud of her👏😊👍👏
DD2 26th birthday today l am feeling OLD 🙄😁

Mrsmadevans · 13/08/2021 08:46

Humbug in my book they were worth it , that sounds just wonderful 👋🤗

Unescorted · 13/08/2021 09:16

Well done to minimartha and nanonorth. We celebrated last night too. An at home one so DDad and DMum could participate too.

Tonight DD and her mate are taking DS out in town. So I guess I will be UberMum for the evening.

I have no energy today... I need to go to the shop followed by another parent sitting day. My sketch book is coming with I think.... Practice people, which will put my mum off sitting right on top of me.

So exciting for all of your young people heading on to the next stage of their lives! Oh to be 16/17/18 again with all those opportunities just waiting to happen! (Not that id really swap - I'm far too tired to do it all again!)

£23 in B&Q on a couple of bits I needed

Wolfcub · 13/08/2021 16:54

£125 four hours 121 dog training
£60 explorers uniform

Haemorrhaging money at the moment
Finished painting woodwork in ds's room this morning, packed four carriers for charity and four for bin. Refitted his shelves onto his wall and put stuff back on them. Washed his bed frame. Washed his mattress and carpet with a carpet cleaner and some help from df. Refitted his sliding wardrobe door which had fallen off. Hmm

Load of washing done and out
Four hours dog training/talking to trainer for advice
Cleaned kitchen(ish)

Currently collapsed in a heap while dog naps before dog walk. Then WineWineWine

Tomorrow I need to put ds's room back together. Go through his wardrobes/drawers and bin and charity shop more shit. Anyone thinking this is unfair/inappropriate I've been asking him to do this for the best part of three years, he's had his chance

Taytocrisps · 13/08/2021 21:37

I hear you Wolf about haemorrhaging money. Spends this week include:-

TV licence €160
Counselling x 2 sessions (me) €120
Waste charges €83.25
Blood test (DD) €35
Hair appointment (DD) €30
Prescription (DD) €10.23

That's before you add in normal stuff like groceries and cat litter etc.

And I still have to pay my car tax. Next week I've to pay for cattery x 2 cats x 9 nights. Plus my share of holiday home.

DD had her hair appointment yesterday. It's a small village hairdressers so she walked over and I collected her afterwards. When we got home, I discovered the hairdresser had recommended a particular shampoo to DD and it cost her something like €14! Not impressed that they're flogging expensive products to teenagers Angry. DD insisted on paying for it herself and can afford it, but it's the principle of it. I'm going to have a chat with her over the weekend and explain that she should never feel pressurized to buy something and can always say something like, "I'll have a think about it", or, "Maybe next time", or, "I don't have the money with me today" etc. I don't think DD realized how expensive it was when she agreed to buy it and then felt she had committed to buying it, so couldn't say no at that point.

Big congratulations to your DSs Unescorted and Alfie and to your DD north. Big celebrations all around.

em sorry to hear you're feeling under the weather. Get well soon Flowers. I found the baby/toddler/small child years so tough and I only had one. Juggling work and parenting is so hard - and that's not to dismiss the contribution of SAHMs which can be hard too, but in a different way.

Unescorted so lucky you were there when van man called. There have been so many horrible stories here in Ireland about elderly people losing their life savings by paying con men for 'maintenance' jobs. Hopefully your presence will deter them and they won't call back.

Mrs sounds like you had a nice day shopping. I hope you bought something for yourself too. You're so kind - you're always treating other people.

Well done to your DD too martha. Have a lovely holiday. It will be extra special to spend time with your family this year.

Wolf I was exhausted reading everything you'd achieved - and all before 5 p.m.!

Alfiemoon1 · 13/08/2021 22:12

Expensive few days £50 on celebration tea last night cinema today free tickets but £20 on snacks and drinks. Thrilled ds got the grades he need to get on the course he wanted and we have completed his enrolment for college. He is the complete opposite to dd very laid back unorganised poor time management so home schooling was a nightmare so although I feel he could of put more effort in and got better grades (I haven’t said that to him) he has got what he needs to do the a levels he wanted to do
