wolf the cake is beautiful. I am glad she had a good day.

Born much love to your family. It sounds as if your M&D have been struggling for a while. My parents were really good at hiding things until they got properly ill.

You know how we have been in lockdown for an age...... my DS just went looking for one of his bike bags only to find it was full of clothes from his last overnight ride. There was also emergency food rations...... fortunately packaged. [vom]

Mrsmadevans · 27/02/2021 17:56

OMG Wolfl am not just saying this but that cake is absolutely lovely. The green ribbon and little touch of green and the delicate filigree decoration/writing is gorgeous thank you so much for showing me/us Am so glad your Mum has had a lovely day bless her and bless you too Flowers
Happier happy birthday lovely l am so impressed with your spends!
l went to Lidl's again today , got my £10 Voucher and bought my first veg box for 1.50. It was absolutely excellent value. Nothing rotten or gone off. 2 punnets of cherries, 1 Pomelo, about 4 packs of mixed tangerines and clementines, 1 avocado, 1 aubergine, about 2.5kgs of potatoes, 2 bananas, a few carrots, loads of lovely onions, 3 big beetroots for boiling which l put straight into my slow cooker for Dh , he loves boiled beets grin a pkt of Spinach and randomly a pear and a single blackberry! It must have been about £13 as a conservative estimate .I can thoroughly recommend them Smile
Love ahh that is horrible when they have to go back to theatre but it sounds as if he is ok after it which is all that matters Smile
Ahh Em & Snuggly that paints a lovely picture Smile

Gensola · 27/02/2021 18:36

Gorgeous cake wolf really beautiful.

Well done with the jump, em I’d be terrified!

love glad to hear your DF is ok.
We did a huge walk 14 km through the cotswolds, it was a gorgeous sunny day and quite warm. Now exhausted and collapsed on sofa with the wood burner on.

I have also done a freezer audit and meal plan, £25 on fruit and random stuff we needed to go with the freezer stuff.
Prawn and veggie stirfry tonight with noodles. Tempted to have wine despite supposedly giving it up for lent Grin

We have just had a Lidl open near us...I may have to give them a go & see if they have a vege box. I do beets roasted in foil in the oven in their skins. It keeps all the flavour in. They can then be peeled and used in salads, soups, scoffing before they have the chance to be anything else. There are never enough onions in the world....

SnugglySnerd · 27/02/2021 18:51

The cake is beautiful Wolf!

lifelongfrugaleer · 27/02/2021 19:21

We forgo our usual Saturday night curry for Aldi steak and chips £15 for us all mmm

Gensola · 27/02/2021 19:27

mrs wowzers that’s an amazing veg box!!! I am jeal!

unescorted that’s how I like to do beets as well; they don’t last long in this house!

Mrsmadevans · 27/02/2021 19:32

Unescorted & Gen I know they are probably not as good as that all the time and there were lots of boxes there today , it's just the luck of the draw l suppose. Will put pics on now ☺️
Life We very rarely have a takeaway because it's so expensive tbh . Also we find they are awful at not fulfilling the order there is always stuff missing 🙄 your steak and chips sound lovely 😋

Mrsmadevans · 27/02/2021 19:56

Forgot pics 🤣🙈

mrs wow! That’s a veg box and a half!

There’s a farm shop near us who do the most wonderful veg and fruit boxes. We got a few last lockdown and they were ace!!

They also do seconds boxes so if I ever want apples for pies or whatever we get them. When the dc were even littlier I got a seconds box and made so so many fruit purees for them for froze them. I remember one seconds box was £5 and I got about 20 apples 12 bananas and 7 mangoes. All a bit bruised but perfect for purees.

gen the jump was a whopping....90cm. I’d only ever done 75 before. But instructor was confident I could do it. It was the last on a course she’d set up. I got almost to it and contemplated pulling pony up. But didnt. Landed it alright too!

Mrsmadevans · 27/02/2021 20:25

It was a brilliant haul Em 😄
Well done on the jump too ! So exhilarating for you ! 👍😊
Have been joking with peeps about Marmite hot cross buns and how delicious they are , well l have just found this on Asda 🤣🤣🤣

ememem84 · 27/02/2021 20:41

Nope. That’s a step too far.

I’ll use marmite In spag bol, chili etc. And enjoyed the hcb’s and even the peanut butter. But chocolate?! No. Stop.

Go home marmite. You’re drunk.

Mrsmadevans · 27/02/2021 20:49

Not tried it myself but am very tempted Grin

Unescorted · 27/02/2021 22:09

Mrs you are a wrong 'un!

Gensola · 27/02/2021 22:32

I say this with love (and as a marmite lover) - behave yourself mrs Grin

Am trying to corrupt you all 🤣🤣
AmberItsACertainty · 27/02/2021 23:26

Sorry your dad had to have another operation love but pleased to hear he's recovering ok.

Nice cake wolf. Glad your DM had s good day.

Interesting tip for cooking beets unescorted. I didn't know they could be cooked like that, I've always boiled them. Your way would be better I think.

Mrs that's a bargain for the veg box. OMG no more marmite though, pleeeeease! It's vile. Just about bearable on a small quantity of twiglets but that's it. It's stealthily trying to take over the world 🤣

I used to ride em. I might go back to it when the riding schools open again. Well done for the jumping progress. Your lessons sound fun.

Life that has to be nicer than a takeaway anyway. I think takeaway is over rated.

Today's spends - £1.99 shaving foam.

SnugglySnerd · 28/02/2021 07:12

I would be interested to perhaps just try the Marmite egg. Just out of interest.
Mrs your veg box looks fab. Do you know if all Lidls are doing them?

Unescorted · 28/02/2021 07:33

The takeaways here are all really poor - joy of rural living in a very white area. All sauce and undercooked onion chunks. I now make up a big batch of The Curry Guy's British Indian Restaurant base sauce and freeze it. His recipes are a good approximation of a takeaway curry and takes less time to make than waiting for food to arrive. It does mean that I am still cooking though and everyone has to agree what curry we are having.

I am going to do an early dash to the foodbank and then see if I can get one of the Vege boxes.

lifelongfrugaleer · 28/02/2021 07:41

I might pop to Lidl too bbaaa
Great jumping em.
Marmite chocolate egg. No! Just no!
Hhmm sc beets. Gonna try that. I normally just boil too.

NSD planned. Possible bike track, defo a walk

Wolfcub · 28/02/2021 08:39

The light is beautiful this morning. I'm lazily say in bed with a cuppa and the blinds open enough so I can enjoy it.

Walk probably on our agenda today too. Probably some paperwork sorting and rugby later.

Lamb chops for lunch. Hot cocktail sausage sandwiches for tea as I'm clearing Xmas stuff out of the freezer.

Yesterday's tea was a white bread potted meat sandwich, little pork pie and chips. The height of glam!

Light here is lovely too this morning wolf unfortunately the only birds at the moment are a group of noisy seagulls!
Fingers crossed that the pacing wire is okay this time love
Happy birthday happier and to your dd unescorted (love the sound of the cocktails night) and to your mum wolf
We rarely get Indian takeaway now unescorted as I end up feeling I could've done the same myself for much less. We have a Raffi's Spice box stand in our local Booths. You pick from their menu and they make you up a bag of spices, onion, herbs that you just add to the meat with whatever liquid they say, coconut milk, tomato etc & cook. Costs around £5 for the four of us and is delish. They even did a leftover turkey mix at Christmas!

Quite a spendy time here for dh's 50th but totally worth it, he has had a great time. We invited his Devon family and a few friends onto a zoom call on Friday (there were 5 houses on the call in total, so manageable). We have some brilliant cheese makers locally, so went to one who made up boxes of 4 cheeses for me to send to everyone on the call along with a birthday cake candle. We also put in instructions for what to have ready for the call. So we did cheese tasting, quiz (with tenuous links to dh), video messages from other friends and cakes and chat. It gave it a bit of structure which was what I wanted & worked really well. Dh & I went for a walk in the day which was lovely and picked up a picnic box from local farm shop.
He has been inundated with gifts (of food & drink mainly) people have been so kind & generous. Last night we did another zoom call with a group of local friends and did the same quiz, cider tasting and pasties. Total costs £150 for cheeses, postage, pasties, picnic box, prosecco & nice breakfast food

I'm really appreciating a few days off work & the good weather as work is really stressful at the minute

northender · 28/02/2021 09:58

On the plus side, my manager has agreed to pay me for some of the extra hours I've been doing rather than accruing time owing that I'll never be able to take

northender · 28/02/2021 10:02

Sorry for multiple posts!
