happier I’m tracking my books this year too. I’m reading the first Bridgerton book atm, really enjoying it!
Just finished Spoon Fed by Tim Spector which was a really interesting non fiction book about health myths.

ememem84 · 03/01/2021 20:15

Oh books what are they?!

I’m listening to books as never seem to have time to sit and get a good read in. Although should make an effort.

Listening to Thursday murder club and am waiting excitedly for the next matthew Reilly one (two lost mountains I think it’s called). Love his books. Easy to read. Adventure mystery history type stuff.

ememem84 · 03/01/2021 20:15

Managed an nsd here today. Wahooooo.

Tomorrow have to pick up my glasses (already paid for) and then Accupuncture - which is long overdue. That’ll be £58.

maddenlightfoot · 03/01/2021 20:49

Dds school now closed tomorrow. I'm not in until Weds so will have to see what is decided by then but I've signed the union action letter.

Lovely walk today. £3 parking and £35.90 on lunch.

January:
NSDs: 1/31
Groceries: £0/400
Everything else: £75.80/???? (I'm not great at budgeting - something I'm working on this year!)

SingToTheSky · 04/01/2021 08:19

I’m tracking books too this year. Really trying to choose to read rather than scrolling my phone or playing random crap on the iPad which I spend far too much time doing 😳 trying to get into audiobooks too.

Gensola · 04/01/2021 08:31

em they’re a series by Julia Quinn - historical Romance v much in the vein of Georgette Heyer or Jane Austen. Not for everyone but I love them!

CurlsandCurves · 04/01/2021 08:41

Need to get out and do a proper food shop, my banking app shows so many transactions over the last few days of between £3-5 where I’ve just needed this or that and ended up also buying the other!

So meal plan and shopping list is definitely on the agenda today.

grannycake · 04/01/2021 08:49

Long time lurker - but want to say if you like the Julia Quinn books you would also like Stella Riley (especially the Rockcliffe series).

ememem84 · 04/01/2021 09:38

thanks gen

i'll give them a go. I'm always on the hunt for new things to read/listen to.

I am a fan of Matthew reilly (as said above), and also stephen king. i just love his work. the only book of his which has really given me the heebeejeebees is "needful things". just no. too real.

i love the shining, and need to start Mr Mercedes which i've heard really good things about.

i tried getting into terry pratchet, but just couldn't crack it.

Taytocrisps · 04/01/2021 09:40

Morning everyone.

I'm back to work tomorrow, so it's the last day of the holidays for me. I checked my work e-mails earlier and was relieved to see that I only have a handful of e-mails which won't take long to respond to. I can hit the ground running tomorrow when I get back to the office.

I've signed up for the 50 book challenge for 2021. Doesn't look like I can do anything else except read for the foreseeable future.

I got a take away yesterday from the hotel (a carvery basically). The town was like a ghost town with everything shut. I popped into Centra to get milk and I got a parking spot right outside, on the main street. That never happens!

I need to hit the supermarket today. I've a Tesco delivery coming next week and I'm aiming to do a big shop then and stock up for the next month. So today's shop is just enough to do me for the next seven days.

The tree and decorations are down and I've filled two plastic boxes. I just need to pack the last two boxes. Every year in January I complain that I've too many decorations and I'm not buying anymore. Then as Christmas draws near, I spot something cute and give in to temptation Smile.

ememem84 · 04/01/2021 11:13

i've paid £300 off my credit card and have set up the premium bonds prizes to go into my savings account (£50 won this month).

i'm working currently (...clearly busy...!)

and have drifted off to wren kitchens and B&Q for flooring. oops.

Mrsmadevans · 04/01/2021 12:05

Morning everyone 😀
Just taken decs down & put away, cleaned downstairs and had a bath, washed my hair , been to Tesco for shopping, now home for a cuppa.
Also ordered flowers for my Bf birthday , sent her card, took a lot of cash into the bank and paid it in , Christmas money and stopped paying the milk! After nearly 38 years of marriage we are now not going to have milk from the milkman. This is because our normal milkman has retired about 4 months ago and we've had him the whole time but this milkman must be storing the milk in a in a different place , it doesn't keep now, so ever since they changed over the milkman it has gone off very quickly so we've decided to stop having milk from the milkman and we will buy the milk that is more money it will get in the supermarket it's the farmers milk so we thought we would support the farmers by doing that instead 12 in Tesco

Taytocrisps · 04/01/2021 15:05

I used my new tyre inflator and it's great Smile. So simple to use and well worth the money I paid for it.

Spends €4.98 on bread and milk. I also spent €82.32 on a new winter hoody. I have two fleecy hoodies and I've been living in them since October. My Dad usually gives me money for my birthday so I'm buying the fleece in advance of that.

A lot of speculation that the schools won't re-open on the 11th as planned. Our government will make a decision about it tomorrow.

Another very cold night tonight so I'm packing my hat, scarf, gloves, walking shoes etc. for morning. The ground was very slippery this morning and that was around 11 a.m. when the sun had defrosted the ground a bit. I'll need to allow a bit of time in the morning to defrost my car windscreen and wing mirrors. Very glad I have a full tank of home heating oil - I have huge sympathy for people who are facing fuel poverty Sad.

Right, I'll head to the supermarket before darkness (and frost) sets in.

I think midterm at the earliest but most people I say it to think I'm wrong. Very fortunate that dm came to mind my dc.

I'm trying to avoid putting in even minimum delivery of oil into tank of rented house as hope not to be staying there much longer. Found out today I can get 20litre drums of kerosene in local Centra so going to do that as dm and dc will be in the house more now and this week is cold. I allowed double the amount of time to travel to work this morning, to arrive safely.

upped my contribution to christmas club at work from €25 weekly last year to €31.25, this will give me an even €1500 at beginning of December.

mrsmad that must have been a difficult decision re milkman, try to get into habit of only having the exact amount of money for milk, because it's so easy to spend an extra tenner when picking up milk!

Tightwad2020 · 04/01/2021 16:28

Paid final instalment of my tax bill this morning and that's a big old tick on the list. Boiler guys here. House very cold but signs are positive that we will have heat today! Fingers crossed. Will be the best money we've spent in a while....

Happierwithouthim · 04/01/2021 16:28

€9 posting ds's gift to his godmother, if only his df had told me that they were visiting before Christmas, it could be avoided.

Dm brought me turf and timber courtesy of df and bf gave me a bag of coal last week so hoping for lovely toasty fires this week.

Happier thank you so much for realising how hard it was to decide to stop , we have been talking about it for ages ever since the old milkman retired. The milk round here has gone from strength to strength because of Covid of course & we don't like doing this but the milk is off after a day. He must be storing it differently or he is delivering it much earlier than our other milkman. We did feel bad about it but we are just wasting money . This way at least we can have milk we can drink Smile I will try to remember re the extra shopping lol ! Grin

Life that's exciting!!!

Took the decorations down today and feeling quite sad. Usually I love the extra space and being clutter free but not this year. Think its just the circumstances.

In Scotland we have been locked down again and schools are shut until February. It's never ending Sad I have my first vaccination tomorrow and I'm quite apprehensive. I know it's the way forward but still not looking forward to any side effects. I keep telling myself that 80yr olds are having it and seem fine so I should be ok.

Tightwad2020 · 04/01/2021 20:10

Buy daffodils and put them in the house, Born, that's my January remedy for cheering the house post-decs. Good luck for the vaccination, I wish I were on a list sometime soon. My parents have had their first shots and feeling more positive.

We have heat! can watch telly in the sitting room for the first time in weeks.

lifelongfrugaleer · 04/01/2021 20:16

Spring flowers are lovely.

Fffs Feb half term.

I did the calculate this game for a vaccine jan to July 2022 I should get mine. Hmm

SingToTheSky · 04/01/2021 20:38

FML

Need to find out if DD1 is still eligible to attend. She was allowed last time once we asked due to her autism and the fact she technically has young carer status but I’m not sure if they’ll be stricter this time around.

Nurseries open though?!
