Effin birds are coming but not here yet, I have something for myself in preorder.

lifelongfrugaleer · 27/11/2020 06:47

I like treat, quality cake/ chocolate, always note books, love stationary. Could you send wine? Are they all local?
Will ponder

lifelongfrugaleer · 27/11/2020 06:54

slattery.co.uk/products/12-chocolate-box

Something like this wolf would be lovely IMO. Apparently only 99p delivery today from a post on the Christmas thread

Taytocrisps · 27/11/2020 07:55

Wolf I'm getting my staff a small box of Butlers chocolates each. I normally bring in a large box of chocolates for them to share, but it's not a good idea for everyone to be dipping into the same box of chocolates atm with Covid. I just have to pay postage for one my staff who's working entirely from home (medical condition) - the rest will be in the office at some stage.

ememem84 · 27/11/2020 08:22

I’ve bought my team advent calenders. And will get them some chocolate or something.

Friday. Finally. Day off for me. And a lonely weekend as have Monday off too. Monday is my toy cull day. The dc will go to grandmas and grandads. And I’m getting every toy downstairs and will sort pack away charity etc.

Bornlazy · 27/11/2020 12:30

Love well done on having the conversation with your dm. It can't have been easy but you've got their best interests at heart and for all she might not want to hear it right now I'm sure your dm knows what you're saying is true.

I'm going all out for Christmas this year. I saved what I would have spent on a summer holiday (well most of it) and I need something to lift all our spirits. I'm even going to give my ds at 15 & 17 years old a 1st of December box with a few things in it like Christmas pyjamas, nice smellies and advent calendars to start the countdown to Christmas. This is something I've never even contemplated before but desperate times call for desperate measures 😃

Wolfcub · 27/11/2020 13:32

Life those look amazing

Genius idea Em, hotel chocolate advent calendars winging their way to everyone and should arrive by dec 1st as I paid for fast delivery.

£10 cushion from local shop that I've had my eye on. That's my only Black Friday purchase

Gensola · 27/11/2020 13:39

Hi, I’ve been reading this thread and would love to join.
I am going through IVF at the moment and need to start saving for either more treatment or Mat leave!
We have some debts from unexpected repairs after our recent house move (toilet broke then shower then the boiler went!) and IVF drugs which weren’t included as part of our cycle charge from the clinic, currently sitting on my credit card which had been totally clear for about 6 months.
In total it’s about £4,000 across three cards which we need to clear ASAP.
Planning frugal Christmas and just did our first budget. Any tips much appreciated!
I have two old phones to sell which I will put off one of the cards and also £56 sitting in an old savings acc.

ememem84 · 27/11/2020 14:33

Fuck. £98 at garden centre.

Christmas decorations innit. And a plant for the boss and his wife who are hosting us for dinner tonight.

lifelongfrugaleer · 27/11/2020 14:51

Advent calendar, good call.
Hi gen. Fingers x for IVF for you. Do you have a clear cc that you can balance transfer to a lower rate. Failing that highest interest rate first. Pay as much as you can afford over the current min as a fixed amount to clear quicker

Be ruthless of your spends, cancel what you no longer use, get best deal on those you do.
Plan plan and lists

lifelongfrugaleer · 27/11/2020 14:52

Have you buggetted for annual spends as well as monthly. Look at money saving expert (mse) for budget advice and planner

Gensola · 27/11/2020 14:59

@lifelongfrugaleer i have moved £1200 off one card into a 0% card and will clear the remainder off the previous card (£856) first as it is costing me money in interest.

Then we have £2,000 in DH name on his card which was mostly the house repairs, that’s a lower % than mine but he is looking into moving it to a 0% while we clear it. He has a bonus coming - would you recommend using that to clear some of the debt? It will be about £1,500.
We have budgeted for car maintenance and insurance and dental costs, Christmas presents and other gifts to set aside a certain amount each month but obvs right now we are basically starting from scratch.

northender · 27/11/2020 18:18

Em Is that £98 on the Christmas decs you weren't getting? Will get a tree and use what we have for the most part Grin
Advent calendars are a good call wolf
Welcome tight and Gen always good to see new folks, we're a friendly bunch.
Love sorry you're having a hard time.

Thank you all for dd's birthday wishes. She had a good day and was an easy customer, wanting HM pizza and a carrot cake. CC has been her birthday cake choice for the past 4 years so I do push the boat out and do a 3 layer cake with sugar carrots.
Now I can think more about Christmas. Have already got ds a cocktail shaker set so now I'd like to get a few things to help with the cocktal making. We have Grenadine and angesteuras bitters and generall y have port, gin & cream liqueur in so what else would be useful (thinking miniatures maybe, but which ones?). Have seen jars of lemon slices and cherries & thought about some of those paper umbrellas for a bit of fun. We are not cocktail drinkers so I am open to advice!
Ds should have had his driving test yesterday but has had it rescheduled for March Shock. His car went for MOT and it is old so was £300. We have decided to get rid of my car and his will become our second car until he passes his test (he can still practice in it). It makes no sense to have 3 cars when dh is wfh and ds hasn't passed his test. We may get £400 for mine and an insurance rebate, so that will cover the MOT cost.
Zooming with friends tonight so wine will be on the agenda!

SnugglySnerd · 27/11/2020 18:19

Welcome Gensola!

I have been quite frugal this week, especially with food. We have eaten lots of odds and ends out of the freezer like si gle portions of soup for lunch, some frozen curry one night for tea. I made bread and butter pudding to use up some stale bread yesterday and put the crusts in the food processor for crumbs which I have frozen probably for xmas day stuffing. We had veggie burgers from the freezer for tea. I nipped to the shop for burger buns and they had those casserole packs of veg yellow stickered so I picked that up to make a casserole on Sunday or Mondy with leftovers for lunch the following day.

Did a little but more xmas shopping using discount codes and the stuff I put in Ebay last week all sold and I did quite well. I have 4 more things ending on Sunday.

Pleased it is the weekend, I am shattered!

ememem84 · 27/11/2020 18:27

north yep. 😂😂. This is dds first proper Christmas as in she knows to be excited this year. She’ll be almost 18m on Christmas. She saw some mousies. Knitted mousies. So we bought a family of them. Plus a mousie washing line Garland. Some lights. Some knitted robbins....some reindeer antlers. And a plant

northender · 27/11/2020 18:34

North so sorry l nearly missed your DD birthday, happy birthday to her and what a gorgeous cake !! 🎂👏😊👅

Wolfcub · 28/11/2020 07:23

Great cake North, I love carrot cake

Welcome new folk. Really must read back

Ended up being an expensive night

£25 for sandwiches, cake and hot choc at an event last night. £45 in the garden centre for some difficult to buy for Christmas gifts and some bits to replant one of my terrariums where the plants have died

£30 flowers for a colleague who has had some bad news

I've had order confirmations for 3 out of 5 of my advent calendar orders and definitely been charged for all of them so will have to ring if the last two don't come through

Has a refund to my bank account that I don't recognise and that looks dodgy so will ring about that too in case it's one of those weird scams where they clear out your account

I've started emptying cupboards and drawers into suitcases and trying to bin some stuff too. I need to ring the removal men but I think all the furniture will be going to exes on the 11th

lifelongfrugaleer · 28/11/2020 07:36
