D's isn't feeling well. Bit of a cough but temp only 37. He's complaining of a headache and sore throat. Don't think it's big C bit we shall see what occurs over night

Unescorted · 15/11/2020 18:53

happy birthday North sorry it is so late in the day.

wolf they pay extra for the meals but they are subsidised. Her friends think they are amazeballs.... Puds now thinks I am the best cook in the world & she has promised to not stir it around her plate unless it is a mushroom. She is back in 3 weeks so we will see.

How much for recycling!!!!!! you must have lots of bonfires and a good line in compacting what doesn't burn.
The tree is

Unescorted · 15/11/2020 19:08

life maybe see what his sense of smell / taste is like. For the people I know that have had it that was what triggered them having a test. They didn't lose their sense of small / taste it was just odd.

lifelongfrugaleer · 15/11/2020 19:27

Honestly I think it's a cold. He is eating and drinking fine.

Ah at least your cooking is appreciated.

Mrsmadevans · 15/11/2020 20:06

Life glad you think your Ds is ok , it's worrying when we never know if it is a cold or not & dread the Covid virus so much ! Flowers
Just bought a Dr Organics vegan rose facial set for Dd for Christmas from my local discount shop , it was 7.99 and on Holland & Barrett it is 25 so l am pleased with my bargain Grin

lifelongfrugaleer · 15/11/2020 20:27

That is a good bargain.
I supect the cough will force us to get a test. What is a continuous cough anyways.

lifelongfrugaleer · 15/11/2020 20:27

Gonna attempt the crown. It gets a bit of a panning

Unescorted · 15/11/2020 21:04

The Crown is amazing. Series 3 got a panning because it strayed into social politics and less well documented times, post war and into the 60's. Aberfan episode was one of my favourites. I am hoping this series goes into the coal miners strike. Not a fan of Thatcher but the scenes where she does a cabinet reshuffle are extraordinary.

lifelongfrugaleer · 15/11/2020 21:08

14 minute in and dh is yabbering on a work call. Not keen on GA as Thatcher

Unescorted · 15/11/2020 21:10

She gets better once she stops overtrying - first episode she is a bit spitting image

ememem84 · 15/11/2020 21:45

Oooh the crown! I’m not starting yet.

Have just wrapped up the presents for Christmas for nz. Apparently it’ll cost whatever to post plus an additional £5 per kg. Sigh. Wishing I hadn’t bought wooden bloody toys for the kids!!! Aaaaah!

But will suck it up and pay it. And know for next time.

SnugglySnerd · 15/11/2020 21:46

Busy weekend! Quite spendy too as I did a but more xmas shopping online. Have listed a few more things on Ebay Ebay though so hopefully that will make up for it a bit.
Will catch up properly tomorrow, I am shattered!

lifelongfrugaleer · 16/11/2020 07:11

Spitting image is exactly what we said.

That's a bit steep em for parcels. Can you refund the toys and buy them in NZ or something else.

DS has woken up with a migraine

Mrsmadevans · 16/11/2020 08:11

Morning everyone 😀
Day off today so shopping yay! Have not been to Matalan since forever .
Em hope it doesn't cost too muCh lovely🤗 toys sound gorgeous btw was looking at some Wooden ones on JL last night 👏

Life hope DD is better very soon poor thing 💐
Snuggly hope your stuff sells 🤗
Unescorted have not watched any of the Crown or Downton Abbey. I keep meaning to but it sounds as if it is a good historical account of the years as well as a drama . I must watch it.
Have a lovely day everyone 😀

Happierwithouthim · 16/11/2020 09:23

tayto dd arrived with an envelope from her dad yesterday evening, he is not contesting the divorce. Even though he shouldn't I was still apprehensive especially when he could see my earnings on paper Shock It made me realise the diy divorce crowd never came back to me about pension adjustment order so I need to wait for that before I can send stuff back to court office.

I hate that they get to see our finances like that after being apart for so long.

life unreal that the big C now has a different meaning!

mrsmadevans that's a great bargain. I've been admiring sets in the Sam McCauley catalogue, I'm not even into skincare and makeup, and last night I'd a dream about my new bedroom and a dressing table in it and my big tv over it on the wall opposite my bed. I'm opposed to tv in bedrooms!

I'm in a quandary with tv, my old tv is 12 years old, working fine but needs extras in order to watch netflix etc as it's not smart. A saorview connect box will cost €199 plus a hard drive, a new tv will cost about €400 on black friday. Once this big tv goes up on the wall it's staying there, as it is heavy and I've got the brackets. A newer tv would be lighter and could go on top of a tv cabinet or into an alcove.

Old tv won't last forever and I'll have spent half the cost of replacement on saorview box.

em love wooden toys and they last so well.

Saw a tip for black friday over weekend, put everything into your amazon basket now and just checkout on friday when you can see the discounts.

I know happier. I thought that when I wrote it

maddenlightfoot · 16/11/2020 13:06

I'm very late to The Crown and so far have watched Series 1 and half of Series 2 but only when visiting my mum between the lockdowns (she's watched them all but was happy to watch again). It's been so nice to watch together that I've decided to wait until I can visit again. I'm itching to get to the 80s!

ememem84 · 16/11/2020 13:49

£101 postage to NZ. yikes.

i would have refunded and sent back, and ordered online, but i liked the things i bought...

still no guarantee of it arriving for Christmas though!

CamdenLurker · 16/11/2020 14:05

Hi everyone,

Not much has been happening here, I didn't even leave the house yesterday, just spent the day cooking, cleaning and ironing, now I'm back at work full time I could really do with a cleaner but just can't bring myself to pay £50 a week out.

I was tempted to start wrapping yesterday afternoon, but held off so I can get it done once the kids are out of the house. I stumbled across loads of wrapping paper that I've stashed over the years whilst tidying and sorting my dressing room.

So far today I've spent £9.70 on deodorant for ds2 as I noticed yesterday that he seems to be collecting empty cans of it, so ordered a bulk lot from Superdrug and used a £1 of points.

I would have spent something in marks and Spencer's food hall this morning but the only way in and out is via an escalator which wasn't working!

Everyone else here seems to be keeping busy, this lockdown feels very different to the last, probably because in still travelling into work and the dcs are still at school.

Happierwithouthim · 16/11/2020 14:10

Yikes em
I have thought about the what if I need to post gifts to people for this Christmas, but my niece is too young for it to matter if they come at Christmas or other times so I think I won't bother if I'm not visiting.

OP posts:
ememem84 · 16/11/2020 15:34

Yep - i had the option of sending them in separate packages, but had the "what if only one package arrives and the others don't" thought.

I'd hate for one nephew to get presents and not the other. better for it to all be in one parcel and risk it all getting delayed!

the dc are colouring at the kitchen table with parents. ddad is getting frustrated with dd who keeps throwing crayons at him.

lifelongfrugaleer · 16/11/2020 16:35

Yikes that is a lot.
Tee hee I year old games.

£3 DS lunch to get him into the air. Sainsbury's tonight to pick up my order and see if there is anything in the double up while I'm alone.

Work have been great about me not doing much today but need to make it up the rest of the week

SnugglySnerd · 16/11/2020 17:25

£101 - ouch!

I am making an effort to be sustainable this Christmas. I bought plastic-free wrapping paper and cards from the RSPB shop and some of the DC's gifts are from Ebay. They are still too small to realise. Some lovely wooden toys too.

Unescorted · 16/11/2020 17:28

Lockdown here is much as it was last time - Still wfh, office is still closed. I don't think I will be going back ever.

Em how much!!!!! I would be logging onto ebay / Amazon in NZ and getting it sent direct.

I have done that stupid thing of looking up a recipe, thinking that looks good, closing the window and not being able to find it again..

Mrsmadevans · 16/11/2020 17:41

Happier l would cut my losses and get the new TV methinks , it seems a false economy to put the old one on the wall but that is only my thinking Smile
I had a further bargain today , in the clearance Matalan in Newport, they had a single no cover duvet and pillowcase 10.5 tog for 14 that l thought was just the job for Dd2 in her house if she has ppl to stay and they sleep on the sofa. It is made out of microfibre material and is easy to wash & dry .
www.matalan.co.uk/product/detail/s2707040_c228/silentnight-easy-wash-duvet-pillow-set-grey
They had heat holder socks there for 3.50 , thermal vests for 3 and thermal long johns for ladies for 1.50!
