No it's not stir up Sunday until next week unescorted.
I like your genius act up in the order as it's written. Also I probably wouldn't be helping him move or certainly not paying for removing.

Unescorted · 14/11/2020 08:41

That is a relief - I want to do this Christmas properly. I may need to audit my fruit & nut cupboard ( shared with dried pulses and rice) today and find a recipe or 2.

maddenlightfoot · 14/11/2020 08:52

I'm not feeling Christmassy yet but in a good way I think... the usual thrashing out of plans for visits, travel, who's cooking what etc that I usually love from about September onwards aren't happening until we know more re Covid, so instead of feeling Christmassy, I'm just feeling autumnal, which is equally nice. I would like to use some lockdown time to get the Christmas cards done though!

Wolf that sounds like a tough reaction to anger management. Do you get to talk to the therapist as well? I'm wondering if a strong reaction is expected in the early sessions? Enjoy your quiet morning with a cuppa.

Life how annoying about your buyer. We've now found a house and offer accepted so are now on tenterhooks until exchange on ours. We're very early days so anything could happen.

Walk in the woods today. Having brunch before we go and then hot chocolate and marshmallows once we're there. I am enjoying the impetus that cafes being closed gives me to be more organised.

I'm going to attempt a 'cook from cupboards/freezer' week next week with only minimal spends on bread/milk/fruit. Will update with meal plan later

Wolfcub · 14/11/2020 10:25

Unescorted you are bang on time for the pudding which isn't until the 22nd. Late for cake by my family tradition but not if you go by Nigel Slater's Christmas Chronicles which I'm currently reading

CurlsandCurves · 14/11/2020 10:38

@Wolfcub sorry to hear you’re having a shit time of it. Hope today’s a nice day for you.

@northender I love Clubbercise, just done a virtual session this morning myself!

Not much planned for today, bit of cleaning, bit of ironing. I’ve redeemed £30 in double up vouchers so need to get those spent.

Lovemaltesers · 14/11/2020 11:52

DP really isn’t feeling well, he’s massively stressed and has a cold. On the phone earlier to PIL “we’re all fine” Hmm . I’m almost willing him to develop a cough or temperature so he has to stay home next week as he really desperately needs some time off (except we’d all have to stay home too and I think he could do with a break from dc too). He can’t take annual leave as we don’t get it (term time contracts).

We’re due to have Covid tests and antibody tests this afternoon as part of a government study. DD2 isn’t sure she wants to partake, but is desperate for the £50 survey incentive they will give us each. I suspect there may be tears later....

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/11/2020 12:22

Christmas pudding I found a delicious good housekeeping ginger one and queen Mary of Berry Shire for cake,
Will post them

Gingerbread Xmas pudding sounds fab

Taytocrisps · 14/11/2020 12:55

Hi everyone, I seem to be just dipping in and out but I'll have a proper catch up today.

I made my first quiche yesterday using the BBC Good Food quiche lorraine recipe (see pic). The pastry was fine but the filling was still a bit runny even after I'd left it to 'set'. Also, it was a bit too rich and the contents sat uneasily in my stomach afterwards or maybe that was fear of getting salmonella. I'll definitely make quiche again but I might try a different recipe next time. I also cooked asparagus for the first time this week, because DD has gone off a lot of veg. but has recently discovered a love of asparagus. So it's been a week of new things.

I think I mentioned already that I've a lot of my Christmas shopping done. I'm going to wrap as much as I can next weekend. DD has asked me if we can put the Christmas tree up on the day of the Late Late Toy Show (27th November) and I've agreed. Left to me, I'd be happy to put it up around the 15th December, but DD has other ideas. We have the cats this year so we may well end up putting the tree up on the 27th and taking it down on the 28th! We'll see..... Inspired by an MN thread on books, I ordered two Christmassy books. One is 'The Christmas Chronicles' by Nigel Slater. The other is 'Christmas Days' by Jeanette Winterson. 'The Christmas Chronicles' is mostly a collection of recipes for the winter season/Christmas but there are some nice depictions of his childhood Christmases in between the recipes. This guy really loves winter and snow! I've only just started the Winterson book.

My Christmas clothes and pyjamas arrived so I'm going to have a shower shortly and try them on. I was tempted by a nice dress for Christmas Day but it's going to be a very subdued Christmas, so I figured I'd be wasting €70 for a dress that will be worn maybe once or twice during the year. So I bought a pair of black trousers and a nice shirt/top instead. I'll get a lot more wear out of them - smart office wear or smart casual for a night out.

I haven't watched the John Lewis ad yet or the SuperValu one. There's been lots of comments about the SuperValu ad on Craicnet. DD is with her Dad this weekend, so we'll watch them together on Monday evening.

DCat1 was back for a check up yesterday but the vet was concerned that his gum is a bit inflamed. She gave me a different antibiotic and some paste to rub on his gum. I haven't attempted the paste yet. I'll report back on how that goes and whether I still have both hands afterwards.

The separation process is moving very slowly. I think I mentioned a few weeks back that I'd been approved to take over the mortgage. The bank said they'd sent a letter to my solicitor. Unfortunately, my solicitor never received the letter. After a few weeks of toing and froing between the bank and my solicitor, the bank finally sent another copy. Only thing is, the approval has a time limit of 3 months and expires on the 30th November! If I don't get everything sorted by then, I'll have to start the application process all over again. I'd completed an Affidavit of Means for my solicitor back in May or June but at this stage, some of those figures are out of date. So now I have to check them all. The solicitor also recommended changing some of the figures. I spent a bit of time working on it yesterday and I need to look at it again today. Oh, in case anyone doesn't know, an Affidavit of Means is sort of like a full financial statement. You have to list all of your assets, your debts, your household bills, your personal spends, spends on DC etc.

DD's exams are over now, thankfully. In my head, I'm someone who supports my DC's education 100%. But in reality, my heart sinks when she comes in holding a copy saying, "Mam, will you test me on my Biology/English/Home Economics etc." Especially after a long day at work.

Anyone else watching 'The Crown'? The new series starts tomorrow on Netflix. I'm going to treat myself to two or three episodes tomorrow and then try to ration the rest.

The election of Biden in the US and the news about the vaccine has lifted my spirits considerably. And we come out of Lockdown2 on the 1st December. So a bit of light at the end of this tunnel.

Anyway, moving on to your news.

Curls I hope the move from tax credits doesn't cause you any financial hardship. Financial uncertainty isn't good - especially in the current climate.

Snuggly sorry to hear about sleepless nights.

em that's great about DH agreeing to counselling. Enjoy the comfy mattress. I was a bit concerned about your excessive lottery spending but then I realized it was for work.

Unescorted so happy for you that your DC will be home for Christmas. Is it two you have at university? The birthday cake sounds fab.

Happier also really happy for you that things are moving with the house. Good news about the lower interest rate also. I must look up that programme about renovating your home. It sounds good. That's a cute image of your DS falling asleep in the middle of assembling his Lego. We need a heart smiley on MN.

life that's so frustrating about the offer on your house being withdrawn.

Mrsmad some great bargain hunting there with the toys from Argos.

Wolf I'm sorry you had such a backlash from DS after his session Sad. I agree with Snuggly that the session probably stirred up all of his emotions. I'm sure you know already that you're not a shit mother - you've been there for him 100% through all the tough times. I'm sure in years to come he'll look back and be ashamed of his outbursts. But that's probably not much consolation to you now. And I'm sorry he damaged the walls. You worked so hard (and spent so much money) these past few months, to make your home nice. As for your Ex, I'm sooo mad that he is demanding your furniture. What kind of a shit Dad deprives his son of such basics as a sofa to sit on, or a dining table to eat at? I agree with the others that it will probably take him forever to make arrangements to move it all. But that means a lot of uncertainty for you, especially in the run up to Christmas. Can your family or friends help out with some spare bits of furniture, to help tide you over until you can gradually replace things? Would a charity help you out? Also, IKEA is really good for cheap furniture, but you probably know that already. Is he taking absolutely everything i.e. cooker, fridge, washing machine, furniture? I really wish I could help you more. Sending virtual hugs and flowers and wine and runny quiche seems so inadequate in the circumstances. You've gone through so much in the few years that I've known you and you've had to shoulder so many heavy burdens. It must be incredibly hard having to pick yourself up each time you fall down. You're one incredible lady.

north fingers crossed for the assessment. That's lovely that your parents are helping with the cost. Good news re: DS's laptop and software also.

madden hope all goes well with your house move.

I started typing this about two hours ago! Oh well, that's two hours spent in the company of good friends, eh? Smile I'm going to make another cuppa and read one of my Jeanette Winterson stories. Then I'll get stuck into laundry and cleaning and looking at the Affidavit of Means again. This evening I'm going to chill with an open fire and Strictly. Have a nice weekend everyone.

Tayto - it is just one. Adora has twins at uni I think.

For quiche I use 2 eggs per 300ml of double cream. Dry off any other fillings as much as possible - cook off all the water in tomato, broccoli etc. too much water causes the cream / egg mix to split.

Now I am torn for Christmas cake recipes. I had looked at the St Mary one, but then got sidetracked by jane Grigson and now you throw a ginger christmas pudding in to the mix as well.

Bornlazy · 14/11/2020 15:05

Cute picture em. I love the zoo if I had one close to me I'd be there all the time.

Wolf I hope when ds comes back he is calmer. You do a great job with him and don't deserve his wrath. I guess you probably get H's share as he feels secure enough with you to vent. Take care Flowers

Very spendy week this week. Think I need to reign it in a bit. I've got quite a few things to send back, including a pair of trainers for ds that were £25 cheaper the week after I ordered, them so need to make sure I actually do it.

I have a £10 off a £30 spend for Boden if any of you could use it I know @ChristmasSeacow sometimes orders from them.

Happierwithouthim · 14/11/2020 15:56

Wolf so sorry to hear about ds reaction to anger management session and his destruction of your repair work. He lashes out in your company as that's where he feels safest unfortunately he's getting stronger too. Just wondering if he's physically violent towards you or just inanimate objects? You don't have to answer this, it's only out of concern. Is he back today?

I went to Aldi & purchased the contents of dc late late toy show treat bags, I bought personalised ones for them & my niece and I want to post hers so that's why I did it today. Also got what I needed to top up last weeks massive shop and bought a few bits I've seen others using on Instagram.
After this I bought a case of Pepsi max & a case of Heineken & daily mail & bag of logs.
Plus I went to recycling centre €11.50 on two black bags and one recycling bag, he didn't charge me for electrical items I recycled. Stick blender & George foreman type thing. Why has it taken me months to take them in Hmm
When I put black bags into boot and big fat mouse jumped out, I made the error of not closing top of bin I hold rubbish in, in the shed. Won't be doing that again.
Spends : €119.78

Weather seems to be clearing so I'm going to have a late lunch and then take dog for a walk before it gets dark.

I've tidied toys up from sitting room floor this morning, washed all the ware & put away, cleaned toilets and wash hand basins, mopped floors downstairs & let the dryer do its thing. Will fold a weeks worth of clothes this evening & mop my own en-suite and then I can take tomorrow completely off!

Honestly I was skeptical but I'm not making traditional pudding again. Twas le yum.

Productive day. Been in the loft sorting out. Need dh to lift some heavy stuff but have a car boot for charity and 2/2 load for the tip.
We will be moving more old toys and school stuff than anticipated but I'm ok with that.

£31 b&m on Christmas chocs and oddments only b&m sell. £9 fruit

Taytocrisps · 14/11/2020 17:31

I had quiche leftovers for dinner today and it tasted much better. I think it had more time to set and also heating it up may have finished off the cooking process. It didn't taste as rich this time around.

Happierwithouthim · 14/11/2020 18:06

Watched some instastories of people making Christmas pudding during the week don't know why because I don't even like it Hmm

Sounds like you'd a productive day life

Haven't had quiche for a long time. Good that it's improved and not going to waste

I'm having salmon lattice parcel with this cheese thing I think

Mmm I love those cheese bakes! I usually have mine with crudités and sometimes sausage Grin

Unescorted · 14/11/2020 18:33

We are having prawns and cherry tomato on spaghetti to tea tonight. It looks as if it takes about 15 minutes to make.... my type of dinner.

let me know what the cheese bake is like.... and can it be nuked in the microwave? DD is getting bored with McDonalds wraps and Tesco curry. Food at her college is disgusting apparently.

WreckTangled · 14/11/2020 18:38

The cheese can go in the microwave, I prefer it in the oven as it goes a bit crispy on top, but it's fine in the microwave. I like the jalapeño one but Aldi haven't had it in for ages.

Mrsmadevans · 14/11/2020 18:59

Wreck I find Aldi's are always doing things like that , l used to love their Coconut yogurts they went away for ages , they came back in and they had 'improved' the flavour. Nope!

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/11/2020 18:59

Those bakes look yum.
£8.50 Chinese for dd

Have bought a Morrisons festive tea for Bobbo for his 90th birthday to be delivered the day before his birthday 20th Dec & one for us too on the 23rd Dec for a treat Smile Honestly l racked my brain what to get him and l couldn't think of anything then saw they had 5 pounds off Morrisons boxes and that was it , at least 1 headache over with Grin

Mrsmadevans · 14/11/2020 19:14

Oh that was £30 btw Grin
