Thanks Wolf - somehow an adult kindle didn’t occur to me! That might be better than the unlimited content on the kids account. Hmmm.

Curvy I forgot to say: the cousin thing is a bit icky. I’d be a bit Hmm about that too. More about losing my ease with a cousin than about him, given that he wasn’t that great iirc. Flowers

SnugglySnerd · 29/08/2020 22:11

Is it really 2 years since you moved into your house Em? It doesn't seem that long.

Top up shop today in Waitrose £40. I only went there because it is generally quiet and I didn't feel up to busy places and queuing today.

Been at a bbq this afternoon. Had a few beers. V tired now.

howlathebees · 30/08/2020 00:33

DH’s proudest moment was when he taught all 3DC to laugh at burps and farts. DS1 has so many books about poo and farts🙄

sea the whole house will look like one big 70’s decoration when I’m done with it😂. We’ve had a lovely time! And definitely worth scrimping a bit elsewhere to enjoy this holiday. Apple screens are so easy to smash, and kindles seem much more durable. I think you can use controls too.

You’re so welcome mrs :)

lifelongfrugaleer · 30/08/2020 07:28

If the app he uses in on Kindle then for a robust pad they are good. I think Kindle 8 we have. For advanced users iPad all the way. We shopped for a deal and got the 2018 model last year. Refurbished ones are decent too

Wolfcub · 30/08/2020 07:44

Morning all. I've unloaded and reloaded the dishwasher and had a cuppa in bed. Need to get up and whack that final coat of emulsion on. Then it's a trip to the tip, maybe a walk and dinner at my parents.

Also need to wash towels.

snuggly yep. Two years end of October. How time flies when you have a suprise baby! 😂

Ds will be 3 next month too. Although yesterday he was adamant it was his birthday. Felt awful telling him it wasn’t.

I’m still in bed trying to enjoy a lie in. Ds is playing in his cot Dd is downstairs with dh. Catface is annoying dh and wants in and out all the time. 😂

Today we’re going for Sunday lunch. Mil gave dh a voucher for pub for his birthday so we’re going to one on the other side of the island (the “dark side...!”) should be good foods always been nice and they’ve just finished a revamp.

ememem84 · 30/08/2020 07:50

I’m an Apple fan but agree not for kids. I love the sleekness of the Apple stuff and the compatibility and being able to access files from my laptop on my phone etc. Love. Even the packaging is amazingly sleek. Don’t like the cost so much though.

Bornlazy · 30/08/2020 10:02

Going against the grain here as I think I would get an iPad. You can get a really robust case and screen protector that should help protect it and it will last for years. Ds1 got his first at a similar age and had it for about 6 years before we got him a new one. Is Ds quite careful with his belongings Sea? Admittedly I don't know that much about Kindle Fires.

Curvy I'd be upset about the cousin thing. It means he'd have links to your family and might even be at future family events. It seems a bit disloyal of your cousin too.

Dh is painting our dining room but it's all the bits before the painting that are so time consuming. The filling and sanding etc. I just want it finished so the furniture can go back into place.

I have a few things bought for Christmas but not much. I feel I really need to scale back this year as there's still a lot of uncertainty with DH's job.

SingToTheSky · 30/08/2020 10:57

I get really frustrated with Android sea 😳 so I would probably be tempted by a refurb, older model of iPad. I must say mine is nearly 3 years old, hasn’t been in a case most of that time and has been dropped and chucked about and even sat/stepped on 😳 and is somehow still almost perfect (I suspect that’s dumb luck, as my iPhones have never fared well, but it’s pretty sturdy). Also depends if the inconsistency would be an issue given his autism, if he’d be struggling with the fact he couldn’t have the same apps as in school. That said I have no experience of using a kindle for young kids so that may be much better! And much cheaper too.

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 30/08/2020 11:14

Thank you for being so nice.
My uncle seems to be getting a little better now so we have everything crossed.
Yy to the ex and cousin situation.
I do feel betrayed more so with my cousin than with ex.
We are due to go on a family holiday in October for my mum's 60th, my sister will also be turning 40 and my cousin will be there and ex had the audacity to tell me not to start! I won't because I will not spoil the holiday, but if she comes and tries to talk to me I will walk away before I do something I will later regret.

ChristmasSeacow · 30/08/2020 11:26

Ooh, awkward Curvy. Does you cousin have to come? If she was gracious she’d send her polite apples and keep a low profile.

I’m still swithering about a tablet. Common sense says Kindle, but I do think I might end up replacing it with an iPad if it drives me mad, so it might not actually be frugal! I dreamed about buying tablets. And also that I looked in the mirror and saw that I had a very noticeable beard but no one had ever mentioned it. I woke up feeling quite anxious and gave myself a once-over with the tweezers

Bornlazy · 30/08/2020 11:29

Well Curvy at least this proves the point that you did the right thing making him your ex Flowers If I was your cousin I wouldn't have the brass neck to even go on the holiday. I'm glad your uncle is recovering that's a lot of stress to deal with at the one time.

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 30/08/2020 11:47

See there is a whole load of us going, my mum, my sisters, my brother, my aunts, my kids, my sisters kids etc.
I mean if it was the other way round I wouldn't go, but she will come.
She isn't bringing her son though, which I find selfish.

Sea, strange dream there!
Maybe getting an ipad would be better if you are going to replace it anyway?

Wolfcub · 30/08/2020 14:25

Emulsioning finished. Tip run done. New doors brought upstairs with help of df, heavy coffee table moved into attic (again df helped). Lots of tidying up the decorating stuff as just minimal undercoating and glossing left to do and I'm sick of the effing mess. Vacuumed and swept downstairs and staircase. Washed towels. Cleaned kitchen. Feel slightly less like the house is out of control now although I do have to do something about the kick for room laundry!

OP posts:
Wolfcub · 30/08/2020 14:26

Living room laundry even!

OP posts:
CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 30/08/2020 14:40

Wolf, you have been busy!
I will need to get emulsion and paint to do the whole house.
No idea of colours yet, but excited it will be all my choice!

I have sorted and cleaned the upstairs landing.
Old books and broken toys that the ex was keeping for some reason!
There was a lot of dust. I now have nothing on the top of the stairs or the rest of the landing!

howlathebees · 30/08/2020 15:37

We’ve packed up and have gone to the waterfall near here and are having a long walk to tired dogs and DC out for the journey home. I’m looking into some decent walking gear for the DC as I intend on getting out and about a bit more now we have the caravan. If anyone knows any good places to get decent outdoorsy clothes for the DC please let me know.

curvy both of them sound like shits. I’m sorry that they’re doing this, you’re doing the right thing by walking away though

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 30/08/2020 16:01

howl, what about sports direct or decathlon for outdoors gear. Both are pretty reasonable.
And thank you x

Wolfcub · 30/08/2020 16:33

I second the decathlon vote. Also worth looking at go outdoors, good deals anyway but they are having a tough financial time at the moment so may be a deal or two to be had and check for discount codes, blue light and camping and caravanning club usually count

Washing mountain taken upstairs. Bed linen drawers reorganised. Pjs and gym gear put away and rest folded ready to iron.

Photo albums and stuff back in office. Bin bag of shredding done. Shredder protesting so no more today but do need to bash through it.

Satisfying amount achieved today.

Dinner at parents now then beer later

Curvy they might not be together by then so don't think about it . She might be moaning her head off about him to you when you go on hols ! Glad Unc is getting better , bless him he has been through it Flowers l understand the betrayal , she is a blood relative and you just don't behave like that to your family , or at least in theory you shouldn't Hmm Flowers
ChristmasSeacow · 30/08/2020 19:39

I don’t know where the day has gone. House looks no cleaner /more organised, but otoh we’ve had a lovely roast chicken dinner (gravy came out extra nice) and I made a tray of caramel shortbread. Nom. Lovely to eat together and the kids were happy.

We’ve decided to get an ipad for DS. I just think we’ll end up replacing anything else sooner. It’s an investment that we hope will last him a few years - he’s not particularly rough on things (more likely to lose things than break them) though can be clumsy, so he’ll need to be extra careful!

I feel a bit funny about it as I’m not especially in favour of children having their own devices and lots of screen time. But he doesn’t play with toys really and doesn’t do imagination, so needs a bit of help. I don’t think we’d do it for an NT kid so I hope we’re doing the right thing.

I need a relaxing evening tonight!

lifelongfrugaleer · 30/08/2020 20:16

I've booked a decorator to do 3/4 the house £1250 but I really don't have time to do it. Leaves me the bathroom to touch up and our bedroom to clean and possibly paint. £24 dunhelm.

Listed some stuff on Facebook but sick already of people asking if available and then no more messages.

lifelongfrugaleer · 30/08/2020 20:17

If DS isn't clumsy I think the iPad will be fine

Wolfcub · 30/08/2020 20:25

£1250 for 3/4 of the house is great value Life, I'm paying £550, including materials for the hall/landing/stairs and four doors.

Sea your dinner sounds lovely

Dinner at dparents was very nice, roast lamb and sticky toffee pud. Yum. I carved and washed up.

So so tired

Mrs I like the way you've compounded mum and bob into mumbob, I think it's sweet
