Nsd. Tried to be frugal by getting a recipe from the love food hate waste site and made butternut squash gnocchi only it turned out not that frugal because it used a lot more flour than it said it would and there was enough dough for about 10 helpings. Cooked half and freezing the rest as an experiment. It was tasty though, we had it with sage and garlic butter.

Wolfcub · 08/07/2020 18:14

I've just hard boiled some eggs that pass their date today in the instant pot. That'll be lunch tomorrow. Ds will be horrified

Happierwithouthim · 08/07/2020 18:17

Wolf eggs in instant pot tell me more?
Don't love cold eggs but this sounds interesting

Wolfcub · 08/07/2020 18:19

Happier put them on the trivet, Chuck a cup of water in and then 5 mins at pressure. Release pressure and cool under running water. You will see a lot of American recipes saying leave to natural pressure release for five mins but in my view this leads to overcooked egg. I reckon two mins and you'd have a soft boiled egg for breakfast but I haven't experimented yet

lifelongfrugaleer · 08/07/2020 20:17

It's only a guide with eggs. I always use them past the date on the box

Unescorted · 08/07/2020 20:30

north your quilt is stunning. I am in awe.

I use the BBE date as a guide on eggs too. I figure that I will know if they are off.

Em that must be so frustrating. My Little Bro and cuz live in Melbourne.... they have spent the last 24 hours running around buying loo roll and pasta which are all out of stock again. My top tip for you all is buy now while it is plentiful - just in time for the inevitable post Super Saturday lockdowns. Em You still have time Grin.

I have spent today writing my CV.... closing dates tomorrow.

LaneBoy · 08/07/2020 20:42

Incredible quilt north 😍

lifelongfrugaleer · 08/07/2020 20:46

Good grief em. That's crazy.

ememem84 · 08/07/2020 21:39

unescorted on it!!!!

I have a confession. I am £250 up. I found cash Dm had given me for Christmas (in a card tucked away in my drawer). I had obviousky put it away for paying in when I returned to work then forgot about it in all the return to work nursery etc then lockdown excitement.

Will pay in tomorrow and throw into savings.

I spent all of today thinking it was Tuesday! Ffs. A nsd, but will need bread etc tomorrow.

Made cinnamon rolls and then forgot to do tea. So pizza toast it was! at 8pm
(cheese on toast with tom puree and salami).

Our chucks lay our eggs so no dates on those. Occasionally I'll water test them (very old eggs float) if we've had a glut and they've got mixed up. You most certainly know if an egg is bad. The only thing worse is a rotten potato!

Mrsmadevans · 08/07/2020 22:55

North that quilt is absolutely stunning ! You very clever telented patient girl! Smile
2Princes didn't manage to d the bench today , will post pic of bench tomorrow fingers crossed Grin
Em that is amazing! Grin
Unescorted l know you were joking but honestly , we are going out and about as much as possible because we can see lockdown looming in the future and we are making the most of it just in case! Grin
I use eggs after their date too Life am still here Grin
Wolf can imagine those eggs pressure washing my kitchen if l did them like that Grin
Happier those glass diet coke bottles , you can't beat them Smile
Lonely cinnamon rolls sound yummy Smile Agree re the rotten egg smell it's vile !
Snuggly recipe sounds lovely and what's not to like enough for another day Smile
Better shift to bed, Dh putting bench up in th emorning now Grin

ChristmasSeacow · 08/07/2020 23:14

I use out of date eggs too. Doesn’t happen often as we use a lot of eggs... if DH is Hmm then I float-check them. No float = good.

Went to Waitrose for click and collect and did a quick top up shop.... and spent £75. On a TOP UP. Ffs. But did buy a sistema lunch box for DD, and teacher gift bags and wine for the Senco, and expensive sirloin steaks because DH and I have an anniversary this weekend (first date, don’t normally mark it but since we never go anywhere I thought I’d use it as an excuse to make a nice dinner!). That also included £15 on the favourite peanut butter as it’s continually out of stock on Ocado, so I bought 5 jars. The pressures of being an autism mother - I DARE NOT RUN OUT! Hopefully the Ocado shop will be a bit lighter this week.

I am considering another top-up effort on the food stash, after seeing the footage of people milling round soho last week 🙄.

Just looking for a nice family pudding idea for after a roast. Nothing too heavy or elaborate as only 3 of them eat it. I’ve been in a crumble rut and need to break out! I’m off to google but open to ideas...

ChristmasSeacow · 08/07/2020 23:19

Ooh... maybe key lime pie! Trouble is it has to be something I can resist...

northender · 09/07/2020 00:19

Thank you for all the quilt love, I'm so proud of it. I'm confident the friends I've made it for will love it too. I'm naturally an impatient person and quite "off piste" with my sewing so the discipline of quilting I find hard, but it's good for me.
Had a big topcashback payout today which was from a couple of car insurances & a ferry holiday a couple of years ago that I had appealed. I think they had sorted it, but it's been paid now do I'm not going to argue. £230 altogether.
I've started building up flour stocks and have an extra tub of yeast in the cupboard. Planning to go to aldi this week to stock up on tins & pasta too. Will add toilet roll to the list.
The first 3 nights of the Eat out to help out offer will be when we are in Devon so dh is currently researching restaurants with outdoor space & good ratings!

sea Eve’s pudding? Or maybe just fruit salad?

Dm makes this pudding which is my fave and is sort of like a trifle ish. Raspberries blackberries and strawbs in a flat bottomed bowl. Mix a tub of Greek yoghurt with a tub of double cream (or maybe whipping cream not sure) I think it’s 1:1 or maybe 2yog:1 cream.
Whip this together until it’s relatively stiff. Put on top of fruit. Add brown sugar to the top as a crust. In fridge.

Or a pav.

Lovely quilt north and that’s a nice amount of cashback too

Tried on a couple of weddings dresses from eBay. I like them both! As suspected, the one I posted didn’t do up so needs letting out and shortening (I suspect the bigger alteration job due to the layers), the other needs taking in and the straps changed and shortening. SIL is going to come round and let me know what she thinks at the weekend Smile . Even by myself, it was so much fun trying them on!

Lovemaltesers · 09/07/2020 06:46

Sorry, you will have to tell me to stop posting about weddings if I get too annoying!

lifelongfrugaleer · 09/07/2020 07:05

Sea some kind of Pavlova, rice pudding,

Never boring wedding talk love weddings love.

I've done a bit of a stash again but going to do a big one this week I think. Just in case. Luckily I am able to.

SnugglySnerd · 09/07/2020 07:41

You're not wrong about written potatoes Lonely, one had fallen down the back of a cupboard in our kitchen and we couldn't locate the smell for days, we were expecting a dead mouse or something so very relieved when we found a manky potato.

Good find Em! I was excited to find £2 in a coat pocket the ither day but yours is much better.

Sea this is so weird, it is our first date anniversary this weekend too and dh saw a recipe in the Guardian for key lime pie yesterday and said he fancied giving it a go!! Saving our treat until the following weekend to combine it with end of term. Probably a take away.

Should be nsd today. Have a meeting about plans for Sept, bit anxious about it.

northender · 09/07/2020 09:23

unescorted good luck with the application. Is it with the same organisation?
sea lemon posset type pud. Condensed milk, lemons, double cream? On its own or done cheesecake style with a ginger biscuit base
Day off today but have a work meeting 10-11. Will take time back next week. Then taking mum out. We're going to one of our lovely local fabric shops so she can get bits for her latest quilt. If the weather is ok then we'll go for lunch at a nearby cafe where you can sit outside. Just trying to get her venturing slowly out to what we see as low risk places. She's shielding, but nothing miraculous is going to happen on August 1st when suddenly it stops, so she will still be very careful, but has to live too. I need to give the inside of the car a clean, she wants to sit in the back with a window open & I'll wear a face covering. Nothing spontaneous, but it's better than nothing at all
Have a good day everyone.

northender · 09/07/2020 09:44

I keep meaning to ask, has anyone been following Frugal Queen (in France)? She is very active again and seems just as enthusiastic but maybe a bit more chilled than she used to. For those needing radical debt solutions, she is great.

ChristmasSeacow · 09/07/2020 09:44

Em I used to make that fruit /yoghurt /cream thing a lot at uni - it was delish. Especially the crusty top! I had forgotten about it. I don’t think DH would like it as he doesn’t like yoghurt but the dc would. Pavlova is always a winner tbh. Maybe key lime pie one weekend, freeze the spare egg whites, pavlova the next? No waste!

I need to buy DD more pants. We’re potty training in earnest now - in fact I am sat next to the potty as I write - and we’ve realised all the 2-3s (mostly never worn!) are too small. So need 3-4s.

If anyone wants lots of unused 2-3 girls pants (they’ve been taken out of the packets but most not worn) I can post them.

God this potty training lark is slow. And painful.

ChristmasSeacow · 09/07/2020 09:49

Lemon posset also a v good idea! I love rice pudding but DH doesn’t (he’s a fussy git). He also doesn’t like bread and butter pudding - also the food of the gods. Nor cheesecake (doesn’t eat cheese) Hmm.

Spooky coincidence Snuggly!

Mrsmadevans · 09/07/2020 12:05

These desserts sound delicious 😘😘😘
DH did the bench yay , he is a good in. Said it's quite sturdy so he's pleased with it. My hero! 😁
