It's crazy the difference between Ireland and U.K. in dealing with coronavirus.
Testing is entirely possible here & with you being in healthcare & needed at work love you'd think testing would be a priority

Sorry about MIL born :(

The lack of testing is crazy, we would get a much clearer idea of various risk factors surely if we had more data.

Wolfcub · 17/03/2020 16:20

Born so sorry to hear about MIL

Unescorted quiet for me too email wise, still full of meetings but I think people are just not quite sure what to do with themselves and are taking a couple of days to get their heads around things

lifelongfrugaleer · 17/03/2020 17:26

Sorry to hear about mil born.

Lots of uncertainty around here too

bubba22 · 17/03/2020 18:04

Hello can I join? I’m waiting on UC going thru and with all the coronavirus stuff I need to budget everything 2 makesure we have enough to get thru

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 17/03/2020 18:14

Sorry to hear that born 💐

I worked from home again today, very boring!!

Dds school has shut to years 7-9 😩 I don't think she'll go back before Easter now. Will have to do some home schooling with her...

Nsd.

northender · 17/03/2020 18:39

Welcome Bubba we're a friendly bunch & yes tough times at the moment.
I'm going in to work tomorrow to bring stuff home, but then will be working from home for 12 weeks as I have asthma and bronchiectasis so am taking the govt advice to self isolate. I hate the idea of not seeing patients in person, but we need to develop ways of supporting them remotely at the moment and going forward so developing that is part of what I will do at home, plus catch up with all the service development type work that I never usually get time to do!
Dmum and I did a quilting workshop today which was my mother's day present for her. We spoke to the tutor who we know and she saved us a table away from the other people & I went armed with hand gel and tissues. We had a great day, kept the window next to us open, didn't come into close contact with anyone and are now both entering isolation! I'm feeling slight self-pity about it at the moment, but will snap out of that & just have to get on with it. Until college & school close I'm making the dc shower when they get in & washing their clothes & keeping my distance from them which is tough.

Still waiting for news of A levels, but saw some "expert" this morning saying he thought they would be prioritised over GCSEs (apart from English & Maths GCSEs maybe) and would go ahead if at all possible as the extra disruption that delaying them would cause would be too big a price. Ds could use the delay, but also would be glad to get them over with!

Will read back & catch up properly later.

lifelongfrugaleer · 17/03/2020 19:07

Welcome bubba

A bit of self pity can't be helped at this time. A few schools are closing to y7-8 I know of. DS school is way down on teachers due to having to now isolate.

bubba22 · 17/03/2020 19:09

Thx 4 the welcomes!.

@northender I’m self isolating. I’m 30 weeks pregnant and ds has asthma. V tuff times

ememem84 · 17/03/2020 19:48

Dd stayed home with dh. She’s ok. Slept loads apparently we’ve had a nice cuddle a bath and have put her to bed. She hasn’t eaten much today but has had the majority of all her bottles.

Dparents are having her tomorrow.

Working from home next week so am actually looking forward to it. A colleague is noisy - she narrates what she’s doing every day all day long time!!! “Oooh what shall I do now. Maybe this maybe that” ffs. Sfaaaaaaaaaaaap

Bornlazy · 17/03/2020 20:09

It's so difficult isn't it. I cant imagine not visiting my mum or taking her to the shops for weeks on end but she is over 70 with a couple of health issues although she is normally very fit and active. I don't think she will be very good at sticking to it to be honest.

SnugglySnerd · 17/03/2020 20:20

I feel exactly the same Born, I am already missing my mum as we haven't seen her for over a week. I am thinking up lots of little projects for her and I'm going to try and send something for her to do each week eg a cross stitch set or something. Very sorry to hear about your MIL.

Welcome Bubba.

Lovemaltesers · 17/03/2020 20:42

Today was just nuts. Full stop.

Got a couple of days at home now. Just working tomorrow, but planning a trip to the supermarket at some point. Thursday will be sorting stuff for my parents including the supermarket probably with them as I doubt my mum will let me shop for her yet. As long as everyone stays well.

PIL currently planning as worried. They are currently cruising back to Southampton. Luckily not the ship with ill people on it. I bet they wish they hadn’t gone on holiday now.

Strange times.

Lovemaltesers · 17/03/2020 20:43

Sorry to hear your news born Flowers

LaneBoy · 17/03/2020 21:11

One of the things DH are talking about tonight (once the kids are asleep we are going to make plans in case of self isolating/school closure) is scheduling regular video chats. DH’s dad and stepmum will suffer from the isolation - we don’t see them anyway (they are in Devon, we are in Sussex) but we will up the contact and DS shares an interest in chess with FIL so they can set up a board each and play via FaceTime!

ememem84 · 17/03/2020 22:27

Great idea lane

No one here is being tested. People are not self isolating. Despite being told to.

We’re on only essential travel only too. No passenger ferries running only freight. I’m
Freaking about our Mexico trip in May. I don’t want to go now. But if we cancel now we lose money. 😭 have to wait and hope the travel ban isn’t lifted.

Wolfcub · 17/03/2020 23:03

Finally after three days of trying I've managed to put in a shopping order. Not coming for a week and a half but that's not an issue necessarily although there are things for family I the order and they may need them sooner I guess but nothing to be done there as no earlier slots

Yogawoogie · 17/03/2020 23:29

DH has just had our fears confirmed. His work has been cancelled until at least June.

I can earn enough to cover what comes out of his account but not much more.
He’s on an expensive phone contract, has Netflix and amazon and two vehicles (I don’t consider any of these necessities which is why they are separate from our outgoings).

bubba22 · 18/03/2020 01:02

@Yogawoogie cud he cancel Netflix and amazon?

My DGM has been told to self isolate she’s sooo scared. Then my DSD is still goin to the pub!. Ppl need to take this seriously.

Accidentalaccountant · 18/03/2020 03:00

Wolfcub · 18/03/2020 07:31

My parents are going to the farm shop, they will not be told, df thinks this is all a fuss about nothing. I've tried to tell him about my friend's news from Italy but no joy. I've given him a shopping list and resigned myself to his stubbornness

LaneBoy · 18/03/2020 07:41

Hi all. Just saw it’s official now about not taking ibuprofen if you have symptoms, as it’s in the BMJ.

Luckily we have paracetamol.

lifelongfrugaleer · 18/03/2020 09:21

Popped to the shops yesterday for mince, and done oddments. £25

Looked in on my elderly neighbors just now as I'm WFH to see if they need anything.

Nowt much else going on here

Happierwithouthim · 18/03/2020 09:54

€50.95 on Revive Active, I've got 2.5 weeks left of it but I can't manage without it so said I'd buy just in case couriers stop working, and au pair wanted vitamin D €13.95, calcium & vitamin D fix all illnesses in her eyes Hmm

Sorry born I never sympathised with you, very sorry to hear about your MIL.
Our chemist's wife passed away suddenly on Friday, so strange for there not to be a funeral to go to.

Welcome bubba
yoga definitely cancel what is unnecessary expense
