I don't think I'm extremely one way or the other with food. We meal plan for the week and buy exactly what we need.
Always have loads of fresh fruit for snacks and usually top it up once or twice during the week as the dcs eat so much of it. Always have baking stuff in including yeast and buy a few things like crumpets for an afternoon snack for the dcs. Otherwise we have a fairly good selection of tinned pulses, tomatoes etc for soup and so on. The freezer has mainly batch-cooked stuff and leftovers. Also usually have oven chips or potato waffles but only 1 pack of one or other. Our fridge is pretty much empty by Monday and gets cleaned before the new food shop arrives. We rarely buy biscuits, crisps etc unless expecting guests or going for a picnic or something.
I think dd1 has grown in the last few weeks and seems like a bottomless pit at the moment so maybe we should buy a bit more snack stuff. I don't really want the dcs to get a daily habit of crisps or biscuits though! Mean mummy! Actually though if anyone has suggestions for healthy snacks that are quick to make a keep for a few days I'd be interested!

Nsd here. I need to get on with some marking.

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 14/01/2020 20:32

Well done escorted DD!

NSD here....no not a no spend day a naughty spend day.

£2.25 in Asda for pop (another of my many vices)
£20.20 for a chippy tea.

Did put a weeks worth of money in my penny savings jar though.

TheDuchessofDukeStreet · 14/01/2020 20:51

£25 to DP for diesel.
96p in Marks for yellow stickered Victoria sandwich cake. Frugal dinner of discounted Tesco pizzas, 90p each. I bought four last week and froze them. They have been augmented with peppers, tomato and cheese from the fridge. DP had his dinner backwards, starting with tea and cake and then the pizza. Day off tomorow. Contemplating wine.
Puss seems upset by the wind outside. She’s a real scaredy-cat, poor love.

danni0509 · 14/01/2020 20:57

I have started moving pennies over to savings account from my current account today. Thanks for the tip which I read on here!

ememem84 · 14/01/2020 21:10

So windy here too duchess catface is all snuggled into me at the moment. She’s such a wussy.

Oh wow unescorted! Congratulations to your very talented, and I bet very hardworking, dd 😊!

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/01/2020 21:44

Woohoo unescorted. Fab news

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/01/2020 21:46

Dam it. Booked the wrong time flights for summer. Will be ££££ to change them no doubt. That will be an expensive mistake.

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/01/2020 21:48

I do suit shift dresses but in not a fan. I don't like the fat bit at the front of my shoulder where it connects with my arm pits covers as it's always bulging. Probably upper breast tissue fat I will photo of you don't know where I mean.

Probably this kind of style

SnugglySnerd · 14/01/2020 22:10

Amazing Unescorted! Well done to her! Enjoy your celebrations.

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 14/01/2020 22:31

That is great news Unescorted, very well done to your dd!

Got my dd2 some teen sanitary pads today to keep in her bag in case she starts again at school, £3.00.

TheDuchessofDukeStreet · 14/01/2020 22:43

Poor pusses, Em.

Bornlazy · 14/01/2020 22:56

Great news Unescorted! Well done to your dd.

£20 spent today on dinner. It wasn’t that nice so disappointed

We3kings I too have a pop habit Blush I’m not a big tea drinker and I don’t like coffee so it’s mostly water or juice I drink.

I am a terrible food hoarder. I can’t bear to be down to my last anything as I like spares. I was brought up without much so I totally overcompensate. I think it goes in cycles and my dc will probably be comfortable to let food run out when they are grown up as they have never known what it’s like to go without.

northender · 15/01/2020 00:08

Just popped in before sleep to check for unescorted news. Fabulous, well done to your dd, how amazing.

That thread is quite sad in a way that so many of us experience poverty and the impact it has. Not sure you realise at the time as money isn't spoken about until online forums.

Wolfcub · 15/01/2020 07:21

Ocado shop arriving shortly. £73

Some spends over the last few days whilst away with work. Can reclaim £16 so will do Aj expenses claim today.

I'm a keep the cupboards full person but I've learned to run the fridge down. H and I were very wasteful/disorganised in the past ordering takeaway when there was food, buying onions (or similar) every shop until there was a mountain or gradually decomposing onions in the fridge. I hate waste

Happierwithouthim · 15/01/2020 09:00

Wolf were we married to the same man??

I stretched out weekly shop for 10 days that's as long as my Dunnes vouchers allowed me & my schedule, they're out tomo but that's my evening home early with dc. This morning I finished off packs of ham/bear meat/cheesestrings/babybels/pitta bread.
Micro rice is gone a few days but there's regular rice there. Chips are gone but waffles there etc

Doing one of the more expensive items each week too, this week is washing capsules, last time was dog food, time before that toilet roll & the fourth week I just get extra meat for freezer.

Budget is down to €80-€100 but lasting longer.

Happierwithouthim · 15/01/2020 09:07

Approx €20 on topup shops, I usually don't do this at all & stick to one shop & if we're out of something we have something else.

ememem84 · 15/01/2020 11:32

worked out our outgoings and told dh I wasn’t putting 50/50 into the joint account once I’m back at work. If I did I’d have pretty much nothing left for me. So am sticking to the £1650 I was putting in. Then the rest will be thrown at savings and a little bit for my monthly spends. (Gym, Nails, waxing, riding lessons).

£28 dunelm on storage bags for dds grown out of clothes, ironing board cover and a storage box.

Lunch with the boss in a bit. Then I’m going to head to M&S/George and pick up some vests socks tights etc for Dd for the next size.

Did he accept that em? Only right, you've adjusted your working hours to care for your children

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 15/01/2020 12:05

It's my day off, feels like the first day I've had to myself in ages!!

Treated myself to a massage this morning, she gives NHS discount so it was a bargain at £16.

Started buying a few bits for dds bday, she is going to be 14 😱

Spent around £70 but that includes gifts for two friends bdays as well. Got dd some toiletries, gym clothes (she's decided she wants to go to the gym every week) and some books she's asked for. I think her main present will be a metal detector! She's been asking for one for years, will have a look on Amazon.

My house looks like a bomb site, I don't understand how it gets in such a state bearing in mind only two of us live her and we're both out of the house a lot!!
