Good work justmuddling!
I have just opened the last packet of biscuits from Christmas. They are actually not very nice! Just having 5 mins of quiet time in between dcs going to bed and starting some work. Back on the treadmill...

nibdedibble · 06/01/2020 19:35

I’ve had a kind of spendy day Hmm Decided to google the only moisturiser that works for me then bought a year’s supply because it was on offer. I’m kind of categorising it as an essential though...

Not sure I’d be any good in an apocalypse Grin

ChristmasSeacow · 06/01/2020 19:47

Unescorted was that wine on the way to work or the way home? 😉

Horrible work day. Nothing awful happened, I just have soooo much to do over the next 2 months that I actually felt sick as I read my inbox. That queasiness lasted until I picked DS up from school.

Nsd so far but off to pub knit night tonight. I love my knitty friends, they are a lovely bunch so it’s always refreshing to spend an evening with them. Naice quiet pub but £££ for the drinks

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 06/01/2020 20:11

A nsd at last!!

Dd was back to school today, work is manic - lots to do and no where near enough time!

I also have a cold 🤧 just to add to the fun 🙄

ememem84 · 06/01/2020 20:20

£2.48 post office.

£12 Iceland (frozen berries and pastry)

Another frugaleering here with a miserable first day back. Nothing terrible, but just same old stuff in the new year.

I have the opposite problem snuggly, I constantly eat at work. But that’s because I get to hide in an office away from the children stuffing my face

I cancelled my haircut later in the week so £50 saved, and will rebook after next payday. Mainly because I need to spend my day off writing my assignment. Whoever asked (forgot who), my course is in HR. Topping up my qualification to a diploma seemed such a good idea at the time until I have to do the work 😂

NSD but I have ordered food delivery later in the week.

Hope you feel better soon lap

CurlsandCurves · 06/01/2020 20:47

Slightly spendy day. £55 for a months worth of exercise classes, 6 a week, but I get discount for block booking so it woks out cheaper to do it this way.

Rather dramatic end to the day as DH was in a crash. Not his fault, and no one injured thankfully. I went up to the crash site with a flask of tea as it was anything up to 2 hours before the recovery vehicle could get there. Really felt for the young woman who has crashed into DH she was so shook up, couldn’t stop crying. She started me off! But as DH and I both said, it’s only a lump of metal, everyone is fine, that’s the main thing. Van has come home tonight and off to garage tomorrow. DH will get a courtesy van which is a huge relief, being self employed.

Food shop tomorrow, my fridge has never been so bare!

Fearofawelshplanet · 06/01/2020 20:54

NSD! Star
Glad it wasnt only my first day back at work which was uneventful and yet still left me irritatedSmile

Wolfcub · 06/01/2020 21:00

Small frugal win returns my carrier bag stash to the ocado man for my pennies

Sorry to hear there have been so many rubbish first days back. Hope tomorrow is better for everyone

Unescorted · 06/01/2020 21:02

Curls you are right it is just a thing. So long as everyone is OK then it is one of those things.

Sea both... I am so tempted to wfh tomorrow, but I need to get my bike space sorted before they all get taken. Which saves bus fares each day. And even if I wfh I still have to do the work.

Em … I am thinking a berry and frangipane gallate. Anyone would think I have just had dinner. I keep trying to remember 1 egg, 55g butter, 55g almond, 55g sugar 12g flour and a pinch of baking powder.... season with lemon zest / vanilla - not in that order. Now I have that thought, how long is it until rhubarb season? I could be dribbling.

maddenlightfoot · 06/01/2020 21:06

First day back here too and it was ok (it was an inset day 😜), but I already feel like I need to say to this thread, my good intentions and my bank balance 'see you in 6 weeks'! Treadmill indeed snuggly.

I've seen lots of things about people trying to have a no/low spend January. However, because I also want to get organised in January I find that this comes along with some costs. E.g. today I bought x6 pairs of black leggings for dd in a bid to avoid the 6am rummage through the washing pile! Also bought trainers for the dts and a jumper for me Blush - £45

Dd gym subs and certificate - £40

Top-up milk, bread, rice, clingfilm - £5

maddenlightfoot · 06/01/2020 21:08

Oh gosh curls, what a shocker 😱, glad you were able to give some comfort to the girl - horrible whichever side of the accident you're on

Wolfcub · 06/01/2020 21:08

Unescorted it's already rhubarb season in God's own county Wink

Curls glad dh is ok

LaneBoy · 06/01/2020 21:12

Catching up with the thread between housework!

Wolf totally agree on the Contigo. Got DH one and he left it at work unfortunately when covering in a far away store and he couldn’t get it back. I resented buying another soon (they were more expensive then) but that was such backwards thinking because it would have paid for itself over and over! I got him one this Christmas though and he loves it, it’s saved him buying takeaway tea a few times already and it’s already a running joke that he keeps marvelling that IT’S STILL HOT 😱😂

The nursery at the top of our list had spaces so we viewed it and have forms to drop off tomorrow.

SnugglySnerd · 06/01/2020 21:38

Pleased everyone is ok Curls, rubbish thing to happen though.

lifelongfrugaleer · 06/01/2020 21:44

Nsd today. Yeah

lifelongfrugaleer · 06/01/2020 21:45

Shit no it wasn't £60 and £56 dinner money account top up.

BuddhaAtSea · 06/01/2020 21:50

NSD for me too :)

Unescorted · 06/01/2020 22:08

Wolf …. I am coming to visit! My side of the hill only has small almost fronds.

ememem84 · 06/01/2020 22:09

I love my contigo.

curls glad no one hurt

unescorted great idea but frangipani isn’t vegan. The berries are for porridge (made with oat milk) the pastry is for a caramelised onion tart tatin. Which is a jamie oliver recipe I think.

Dd is suffering with her teeth poor baboooo. I don’t remember ds having this much trouble. I think it’s toothy no 2 that’s bothering her. But no idea really. Lay her down for bed tonight and she was so so upset. Calpol seems to have calmed her though.

For whoever asked, I’m studying for STEP (society of trust and estate practitioners). Three essays to write over 3 years and I’m done. The alternative is exams. But not feasible for me with two littlies.

Quick question for unescorted, we're meeting friends on a Sunday soon & trying to decide on somewhere halfway for a walk, pub lunch. We've narrowed it down to Lyme Park or Stalybridge (dh's idea as its a bit of a real ale haven!). Think they may be in your neck of the woods, so any ideas welcome.

Unescorted · 06/01/2020 22:21

em You could.. butter spread, sugar creamed. Chickpea water and agar agar for the egg sub, extra vanilla / zest of citrus to mask the chickpea water. Add almonds and backing powder as normal and Bob will be your father's brother. Just saying..... So shall we both visit wolf to steal her rhubarb.

northender · 06/01/2020 22:21

NSD here too

Unescorted · 06/01/2020 22:21

backing = baking..... unless a 1960's girl group

Unescorted · 06/01/2020 22:32

North Whitehough / Chinley (5 mls from Lyme pk) - the Old Hall / Paper Mill and a walk up Chinley Churn to Big Stone (no pub!), or if you want to go a bit further come over to Hayfield (3 mls from Lyme Pk) - Packhorse or Sportsman or turn left and to go to New Mills for the Torrs and the Beer Shed (check opening hours for both).

Steer clear of Staylybridge (a dump). Lyme park / Disley poor pubs.

Old Hall is the best pub for eleventy million miles around.... and they do really good food. They also run / own Paper Mill which has its own Micro Brewery
