Ok so plan is. Switch bank accounts and use the switching money plus any tax refund I get to pay of the next account. Put dh's overtime into one of my empty bank accounts and use it to replenish my wages of whatever they take over the maximum time allowed. I'm also going to say they can't take it back until I have my incremental raise which will snow in may's wages. Hopefully they'll allow this but not the end of the world if not.

Any toy shop money I get 50% to dh for his credit card and 50% to me for anything I might need/want to do. It's not loads anyway.

WreckTangled · 07/03/2019 11:24

Should I go for the bank account that pays £175 or the one that pays £150 but gives you 2% back on your bills and charges a £2/month fee? Our account at the moment gives money back on bills and we get about £5/month.

Lovemaltesers · 07/03/2019 13:29

Probably worth trying to find the small print on what exactly gets the 2% cash back wreck. It also depends then how much 2% is on your bills

I love the idea of invoicing your DH justanotheruser

WreckTangled · 07/03/2019 13:34

I think I'll have to go with that one as not eligible for the former one. That's ok though I'll do it once dh is home as I need his debit card number.

Greyhound22 · 07/03/2019 14:11

Ruby that would do my head in. In fact it's very similar to what my DH would do. I don't know why these men are such selfish wotsits.

In fact just realised that someone else (male) owes me money. It was a split thing and all the women have sent it me. Suppose I can wave that goodbye too.

I always organise collections etc. I need to stop don't I?

Thatsnotmybaby · 07/03/2019 15:02

Spends today:
£4 lunch

Sounds very frustrating @greyhound and @ruby. Also completely unfair for you not to have equal spending money @ruby.

Last night was a bit unsettled with DC as feared, and I'm feeling the tiredness now.

lifelongfrugaleer · 07/03/2019 16:27

Yes you do grey or money before place at least.
Waves at lonely.
Good plan wreck.
That's vexing about the milk.

£168 childcare and £48 cleaner. I love my new cleaner

Thatsnotmybaby · 07/03/2019 16:48

Oh there is nothing that lifts the soul like the house after a good cleaner has been at work is there @lifelongfrugaleer?

Updated spends:
£8 getting new zip in DD's coat. Slight frugal fail as she will probably only get another month or so out of it before it's too small, and too heavy for spring, but it's so cute, i wanted it repaired even if it's to pass it along to someone else.

lifelongfrugaleer · 07/03/2019 17:04

It's blooming awesome

Rang insurance about the car. £195 excess. Will keep my NCD but it's an at fault claim as there is no claimant for them to claim. Little shite has wrecked my premium for the next few years too

SneakyGremlins · 07/03/2019 17:12

Paid my last council tax thingy!

FaithInfinity · 07/03/2019 17:20

My cleaner upper her prices massively (think 20% increase!) so we chose to let her go agreeing we’d do it between us. Reality is I’m doing probably 90% of it and now I have a slipped disc in my neck some weeks it’s not getting done at all! Hmm

Spent today - food shop £100 (needed extras like nasal spray which bumped it up).

lifelongfrugaleer · 07/03/2019 17:37

It's a luxury but until today I didn't realise the joy of someone taking some of it away and freeing up my time

Ggreengrass1 · 07/03/2019 17:45

Knackered today, gave up refined sugar for lent. 1 day down, 39 to go!!
£67 supermarket.
Haven't heard back about the outcome of my interview yet, could be a couple more weeks.

sportinguista · 07/03/2019 18:04

So, 2 NSD's for me, I know tomorrow will not be as need to shop for the weekend. Disaster struck as DS dropped his Kindle, it is beyond repair so I have replaced but it will need to come out of his savings as I need to have money in my account for bills.

A bread maker sounds like the way forward and I have made bread before but again DH prefers the sourdough type which just the starter takes about 3 days!

It has been hard as the cooker malfunctioned on Friday so we ended up getting a new one as it was over 10 years old and truthfully had been going a bit odd for a while.

Business is a bit busier though and that is a positive but I'm limited as to how much I can take on as I home ed too. I've given myself a year to clear these debts and am starting the 1p challenge and other ways of saving. I think I might try coin sweeping to the credit card as that might work well too.

I'm also doing a challenge to lose weight and change habits with a wellness coach, I've already cut alcohol during the week which should save money too. Using up stuff in the cupboard and preventing waste is my new mission and with eating healthily and losing weight it means I can get back in clothes I love too.

Listening to a webinar about financial freedom in my business group at 8 with a finance coach as well so hoping I pick up a few tips from there too!

lifelongfrugaleer · 07/03/2019 18:08

I've given up ice cream for Lent. Doesn't count if its melted right?

WreckTangled · 07/03/2019 18:15

Life it's practically a milkshake definitely not ice cream.

I want a bread maker. Won't be getting one. Dd will now only eat my homemade bread...

sportinguista · 07/03/2019 18:45

Hmm, Lent might be a good excuse to give up something, not sure what but I'm sure there's something I could give up...

sportinguista · 07/03/2019 18:45

Probably spending as it seems to get me into more trouble than anything else!

Ggreengrass1 · 07/03/2019 18:46

Me too I want a bread maker!! Tried to make sour dough twice- not a successSad

SneakyGremlins · 07/03/2019 18:49

I have a breadmaker, only used twice, I'd be happy to send off to anyone who wants it - if you cover postage Grin

sportinguista · 07/03/2019 19:02

I can do sourdough it just takes time, I use a Portuguese recipe which seems to be the best I've had, it's the time making the starter which slows it all down. On balance my recipe does make two large loaves which keep really well.

Unescorted · 07/03/2019 20:24

Evening …. sorry went a bit AWOL. Busy shit.

Wreck how crap. You should not beat yourself up. You are not a payroll person, you don't get to see the inner calculations of how they do all of that stuff. You are awesome. DO.NOT.FORGET.THAT>>EVER. Your dd needs to learn about budgets and money.... we always, even in the depths of debt discussed money & budgets in front of the kids. They are now super savvy.

If anyone wants some of my sour for their bread you are more than welcome to it . It is really lively - refreshes on an overnight run, bread rises for the afternoon and bake in time for dinner.

Wolf they are working really well. I used paraffin wax as I have some vegan friends & I don't want to inadvertently contaminate their food if I have wrapped something in them.

Hi to all the new peeps and the rest of you …. I am reading when I get the chance

lifelongfrugaleer · 07/03/2019 20:35

That's what I thought wreck.

I love my bread maker. Pizza dough every week without fail. I did do the loafs but was eating too much.
£25 gym pass

Ggreengrass1 · 07/03/2019 21:03

Has anyone got a sour dough starter recipe that worked for them ?

Cagliostro · 07/03/2019 22:00

I’ve never really tried making bread. I have just started using Pinterest though and on searching for Viking projects found a Viking bread recipe 🤔

Started chemistry with DS today and did some lesson planning for that and history (the latter we will be doing with friends although I’m the one running it)

We have recently found out we can hire the place we do art class for £15 an hour and people have said they’d be very interested in joining a cooperative learning group... living the dream... however nobody else actually seems to be coming up with ideas for said group! The idea would be that we split the hire cost between us. But actually I don’t want to do that if all the planning falls to me (not least because part of the building would be used for younger kids - I have plenty of ideas but my kids aren’t even that age!)

So... I dunno. I could probably charge more per head and people would still do it, basically I would kind of want to at least not have to pay my share if I was doing all the work, that’s not unreasonable is it? Thoughts please? 💐
