Your totally not shit and I'd still ask, both on MN and your employer. Can you be clever with a 0% card or loan maybe, to help cash flow?

OP posts:
WreckTangled · 06/03/2019 15:46

Well personally I can't get enough on a credit card to cover it and dh refuses to swap to 0% (don't ask 🦕) so that's not really an option. Plus with the reduction in wages I wouldn't even be able to afford the repayments. I think getting rid of the car is the best bet and try to actually save some money for when it inevitably goes wrong.

Cagliostro · 06/03/2019 16:24

Refuses to swap to 0%... sorry not asking

You are so not shit! Things like this happen. 💐

I just entered the rabbit hole that is Pinterest. Oops. Absolute wealth of home ed stuff though, so lots of free resources, kinda frugal I guess..?

CurvyInAllTheWrongPlaces · 06/03/2019 16:33

Oh wreck you are not shit!
These things happen Flowers

SnugglySnerd · 06/03/2019 16:37

Wreck you are absolutely not shit. Please don't say that. These things happen sometimes and life is so busy we don't notice. Flowers

Girliefriendlikescake · 06/03/2019 16:42

Hi all busy few days here with work, I spent today with the lady whose job I'm going to be doing soon. Was a good day, interesting and reassuring as today at least there wasn't anything I saw that I couldn't do! Will be paid bank for today as well.

Wreck I don't really know what to say, it's just rubbish for you. These sort of payroll cock ups shouldn't happen and it seems wrong that you're the one who gets punished.

Well done on passing your exam wolf

Nsd.

Wolfcub · 06/03/2019 16:47

Wreck you are being incredibly hard on yourself again.

Do you have a final figure for what you need to pay back? I thought you owed about £700ish. Forgive me because obviously I don’t know all the circs but I’m not sure that paying 700+ to give back your car on top of that is going to make things better if you have to borrow the money to pay off the car.

If you take the married persons tax allowance back from dh what extra will that give you in your pay cheque?

lifelongfrugaleer · 06/03/2019 16:54

On way home. Not looking back other than to say wreck (((big hugs)))

WreckTangled · 06/03/2019 16:57

Wolf nothing because I don't earn enough to pay tax Grin just under the threshold. My car costs £210/month and I lose £100 minimum on fuel expenses each month. M
If I keep the car by the time I have paid that, pension, back pay, NI, I will be left with £470 a month. This is after my pay rise/incremental raise which I'll see to full affect end of May.
Add that to my £132 child benefit is £600.

Out of that I have to pay:

£500 to joint account
£66 mine and dh's phone (will go down in August, it's mine that costs)
£10 dc savings
£10 cat insurance
£70 next account (£530 to go)
£32 hoover payment (until August)
£15 life insurance

Think that's it.

lifelongfrugaleer · 06/03/2019 17:03

Can you make the tariff on your phone smaller. Ie less minutes and data for a smaller amount?
Don't save for the DC for 9 months?
I'm sure you have looked but thought I would mention it.

lifelongfrugaleer · 06/03/2019 17:04

Oh and don't be so hard on yourself. You are not a payroll person. It should be expected they can do their job and get it right.

Wolfcub · 06/03/2019 17:09

So if you don’t do savings or amazon fire or now tv that’s 27.98 a month saved.

What car would you have to get to not be losing mileage money and do you have any benefits with your current car that you might lose buying an older on eg low tax, no mot, warranty or service package

If dh thinks he’s getting another £200 a month from the end of April is he willing to foot some of those bills in your list whilst you pay back the overspend?

Don’t feel you have to answer I’m just posing thoughts

Justanothermile · 06/03/2019 17:12

Phone looks high, Amy leeway there? Giffgaff are incredibly good value, especially if you have a handset.

No savings for dc for a few months, you can always double up later.

£10 less on Next account for a few months?

Any chance of £2.50/3 less on shopping per week? Might not be but just a thought?

Xx

OP posts:
Justanothermile · 06/03/2019 17:13

You lose £100 fuel expenses? You mean though work mileage? Can that change?

OP posts:
lifelongfrugaleer · 06/03/2019 17:27

I thought that about milage. I know the system can be flawed but that's a hell of a deficit.

WreckTangled · 06/03/2019 17:36

Thanks everyone.

The dc savings is a fund thing I don't really understand but I don't think I can stop it? If I do I don't think I can restart it? Could double check though.

Have cancelled now TV movies (not told dh yet) will cancel amazon.

My phone is on contract I can't do anything until it's up in August. It's actually £56 for both (bad maths!) dh's is £16 mine is £40 Blush will go sim only once it's up, am already on the lowest tariff for calls etc

Dh won't be getting an extra £200 a month. He might get it a year but I don't think he will as the married tax allowance is ending.

What happens with the car is that with the lease car I get 10p a mile but if it was my own I'd get 45p a mile. So last month I got £30 but it would have been £150 if I had my own car. The lease car included EVERYTHING. Tax, mot, insurance, recovery. That's why we went with it as there's no stress and it's all done in one payment

Sorry I feel like I'm derailing the thread!

Wolfcub · 06/03/2019 17:38

Not detailing Wreck this is the whole purpose to be frugal and support each other

Justanothermile · 06/03/2019 17:47

Check the savings fund, mine could always be stopped for both dc. In fact, I cashed it early.

So, are you £100 down or are you covered for all the associated costs of a car? Think that would cost £100 per month in reality.

45p per mile only applies to the first 10,000 miles, it drops to 25p,after this That's HMRC rules.

OP posts:
Wolfcub · 06/03/2019 18:03

So if you bought a second hand car you would have

Cost of loan to repay (variable depending on cost of car)
Mot £4 per month
Insurance £36/38 a month may be less for you
Older car with potential for repairs, I just paid over 500 and my car is 6 years old so call it 40 per month
Hangover bill from returning hire car £58

I think if you can get a car that including all this wouldn’t cost you more than 210 a month it would probably be a sensible option with the extra you’d get for mileage but if you are paying much more you are just going to eat into that petrol money benefit

WreckTangled · 06/03/2019 18:06

Dh just said he will pay the overpayment with him overtime money that he's owed 🙄 also I hate that we just spoke about it in front of dd because now she will start worrying. Ffs. Such a nightmare.

WreckTangled · 06/03/2019 18:14

If he does that I can still afford all those bills. Will still cancel amazon so that with now tv saves £18/month leaving me with £85 to put towards my next account and any extras that might come up. It'll be tight but probably worth it. Dh is fed up of always having a loan to pay off and I get that because I feel the same.

lifelongfrugaleer · 06/03/2019 18:21

Pleased dh is paying it wreck. YY to throwing it all at the next account. Can/do you do the standing order trick with it?

Don't be daft, not derailing. It's what we are here for.

WreckTangled · 06/03/2019 18:27

I've transferred as much as I can to a 0% cc so the actually next account is almost paid off then I'll throw it all at the cc

northender · 06/03/2019 19:01

Definitely prioritise the Next card Wreck. Glad your dh is going to pay the money back. I wouldn't pay it back as a lump sum though, instead use the installments to buy you some time to sort everything else out. Don't be so hard on yourself, you're doing a fab job there, but having shitty luck.

lifelongfrugaleer · 06/03/2019 19:15

YY defo get the max payback time
