Arent DC formally assessed and a plan for their needs developed?Confused

QuiteFabULousDahling · 12/10/2018 07:12

I have chronic debilitating pain -its not about rushing about ,its about developing ways to "work smarter not harder"
Doing things as they occur and not letting them build up is way more sensible for me so it never gets overwhelming .

SummerDaize · 12/10/2018 07:15

Thanks born.

Quite we're not in a situation to require a formal assessment or a statement. We're the in-between layer, somewhere between "completely fine" and "a-bit-iffy". I believe those are both technical terms.

I think the intervention that will ultimately be recommended will be for me to say the sentence "would you please stop talking about minecraft" over and over again until it finally registers.

The senco says the solution to all my problems is to get myself a shed of my own in the garden for building stuff, and to tell my friends that they are welcome to give me specific feedback on social skills when I am being annoying. She says I would have a lot more friends if I did that.

SummerDaize · 12/10/2018 07:21

Quite I'm sorry to hear that. Well done for bashing on.

With me, I definitely need to find ways to radically reduce my workload. I'm working on it though.

Bornlazy · 12/10/2018 07:22

Well they should be Quite but some children slip under the radar. I also think that even if your child has a statement that some schools will be better than others at providing the support required. I am only speaking from personal experience and not professionally.

I do find I have a much better day if I can get the chores done and out of the way rather than have them hanging over my head. It makes everything else more enjoyable.

LonelyOversharer · 12/10/2018 07:32

Anyone else ridiculously pleased it's friday??

I'm only just up, need a shower, and have done 2 of the 4 lunches. I'm a slattern, sausage rolls, kit kats, lebucken, yoghurts and skittles for my lot today Grin ds also has an actimel (his lunch does not vary). We have 2 in high school who can get proper food if they want, and no lunchbox police in primary, yay!

SummerDaize · 12/10/2018 07:33

Born getting the chores down does seem good. I used to do that, but I'm finding recently that if I can just drop everything and go back to bed straight after the school run, and stay there all day, then I feel well enough later in the week to actually do enjoyable things, like taking ds on an outing at the weekend, which is really very exciting. We never much have proper outings because I don't feel that well most of the time.

This new plan of just taking a couple of whole days off a week is definitely making a big difference, but it takes a lot of self-control to do it, as I am also definitely a hyper-efficient do-er.

I'm planning for a day off today, and I need to grit my teeth and just do it, even though there are a thousand other things I'd prefer to do.

QuiteFabULousDahling · 12/10/2018 07:34

I find if DH chips in in a realistic way rather than doing a symbolic bin emptying #herohowdoeshedoit Hmm then its much better for everyone.
He gets it now.
I am not able to do certain things and they still need to be done.So we split work/home fairly.

QuiteFabULousDahling · 12/10/2018 07:37

Ps my NT DSs never stopped talking about Minecraft
Im a fan of early bedtimes Grin

SummerDaize · 12/10/2018 07:40

Dh used to help, but he's not at home much. He got a big corporate job recently and we just don't see him much now.

SummerDaize · 12/10/2018 07:41

I'm a little bit tempted by the idea of having a cleaner, but I think that might involve people skills.

QuiteFabULousDahling · 12/10/2018 07:44

Are you under a Specialist OT Summer ?

Wolfcub · 12/10/2018 07:44

Morning all. Apologies for last night’s sad sack post hope everyone has a lovely frugal day today and Em enjoy every second of getting your new house. It’s great to be in a position where you can do essential work before moving in.

I also have a pain/physical issue with doing things. When h was here we would split tasks according to our various conditions to make sure that the best-able person was doing them. Now I do them all. My solution to that is compressing my working week into four days and then using my Friday to do a lot of the jobs that cause me problems. That way when work rolls around again on Monday I’ve had time to recover. I don’t do packed lunches because a) I don’t have the time (yes I know I do really) b) ds eats like a starving horse
When I’ve had my cuppa and ds has gone to school I’m off to clean the bathroom

Planned spends £15 ds haircut plus 1.50 tip
£40 nails, brows and lashes. Will try not to spend anything else

QuiteFabULousDahling · 12/10/2018 07:45

You could go to an agency ?
They come in whizz round and go !

mammynowanauntyIRL · 12/10/2018 07:52

Waves at laska Grin
Thanks em for new thread

Fluffycloudland77 · 12/10/2018 08:13

Thank you Em, yes I’ll do usefull threads.

Royal wedding fever, I has it 🍾

I miss my robo hoover. It was only a cheap vileda but he was awesome. The cat was terrified of him. Em You should put one on your long term list.

I read a thread on here saying bamboo cloths are better for the environment than micro fibre, micro fibre deposit little bits of plastic every time we wash them, which is a shame as I’ve got a shitload of them in the cupboards.

Dh has taken my car so I can’t do my top up shop. Which is a shame 😉

I’ve downloaded an app called HuYu, similar to shoppix.

SummerDaize · 12/10/2018 08:14

Quite no I don't know anything about OTs. Do you think that would help?

I'm having stage 2 Ados test next week, so if an OT would help then this would be the ideal time to ask about it.

I just accidentally cleaned and tidied the whole kitchen. Stopping and resting is really not my strong suit.

SummerDaize · 12/10/2018 08:15

Quite an agency cleaner does sound good. Maybe I'll think about that. Thanks.

ememem84 · 12/10/2018 08:24

I’m like you quite get shot done while I’m doing everything else.

I can get a lot done in the time it takes for a load of washing to finish in the machine.

Thanks for all your congratulatory words. I am excited! Eeeeee!

QuiteFabULousDahling · 12/10/2018 08:28

Didnt they refer you to an OT when you were diagnosed with CFS ?
One of my colleagues has been diagnosed after 4 years of very stressful life events/illness and sees an OT who has given her a programme to aid her recovery.
This is NHS -its been brilliant for her.
Not sure it would be relevant to the Ados test.

ChristmasSeacow · 12/10/2018 08:34

Schools aren’t directly responsible for healthcare services in general, but where a child has a health need that affects their learning this should be managed, and often delivered, through the school. They should also support children’s healthcare needs at school. So for instance, if a child has Type 1 diabetes that would primarily be managed through the nhs (GP /consultant) but the school should help the child to monitor and manage it during the day. Health needs that relate to learning (speech and language therapy, for example) would usually be assessed and delivered through the school unless there was a need for an onward referral. Any child with additional needs should have a plan (usually an individual Education Plan); though those are not legally binding the school should be assessing and revising those plans termly. Schools have a general budget for children with SEN and have to procure the services such as SLT, OT, themselves for the children with low to moderate needs. Those children who have needs in excess of c £6k support p.a. Should have an Education and Heakthcare Plan, which is legally binding. (Though in my experience it still takes a good amount of parental vigilance and grit to get the services your child legally requires 🙄). The threshold for getting an EHCP is quite high, much higher than the old Statements. It’s a very painful process, negotiated with the LA and not the school. Often requires appeals /complaints :legal action to getvto the necessary outcome 😬🙄

Anyway Summer it is the SENCO who can call in all the relevant services for your DS and other children with additional needs. Some are more helpful than others.

GOOD LUCK TODAY EM!!! ROOTING FOR YASmile

wolf, would you like to take my spaniels out this afternoon in the driving rain and wind?Grin Hope you're okay. DH maintains the dogs have been almost as beneficial for his MH than the medication.

quite. Loving the name change. I didn't know about the chronic condition. Just shows there's folk on the thread that don't necessarily choose to share information that can have a real affect to RL. But it's there, and real and needs managing.

fluffy you going to watch it then? The dogs are lean yes, most folk comment they are too thin. Take them anywhere equine or farming, working type dog related, they look exactly like all the other dogs. Most dogs are too fat.

Did you enjoy the office environment seacow?

In my experience of young boys, it goes obsessions with dinosaurs, sharks, Thomas the Tank engine, Lego, Minecraft, Lego Batman on the PlayStation. We've also had an obsession with the trampoline, some form of trading card.

Also, house signs!! For months, all you could hear from the back of the car was 'For Sale', 'To Let', 'Sold' etc.ConfusedGrin

My friends DS has an obsession with electricity pylons, who knew there were different varieties?!

Justanothermile · 12/10/2018 09:11

Cleaners only involve people skills if you choose to be in!

Waves at laska.

Don't think I'm due to spend anything today. We are having leftovers for tea. There's salads etc in the fridge, hummus made.

Have a good day y'all.

QuiteFabULousDahling · 12/10/2018 09:17

Wolfcub · 12/10/2018 09:24

Jam that’s a good point when I had a cleaner I used to go out for breakfast whilst they cleaned
