I just saved money I don't have by ruling out a trip to circus @ €43 for just tickets!
We've got weekend at grandparents & christening next weekend, they've got camps & granny visiting following week & week after that H is off for a week with them

Bluegreen143 · 06/08/2018 12:46

em that sounds exciting! But moving in a rush is definitely not easy. Hope it doesn’t stress you too much.

Bornlazy lovely to “meet” you 🙂

Just been out in our horrifically neglected & overgrown/weedy veg patch & greenhouse, harvested some peas, chillies, rocket, lettuce and a ton of parsley as I’ve accidentally planted masses of it it would seem 😬 will need to try drying some.

How do we add photos to posts?

Wolfcub · 06/08/2018 13:02

Em how exciting.

Sea I second th vote for no passengers whilst you reverse on if you can do that.

Taking a short lunch break. Need to pack later as away with work for a couple of days. Also need to do something with the house as ds has totally trashed it in four days.

ememem84 · 06/08/2018 13:02

Caught up a bit.

wreck keep the dungashorts on. #justbloodywearit

mammy deal. We shall compare.

blue I’m stressed as. But needs must. Our buyers mortgage offer expires the week after so it’s go now or don’t sell.

So. Yes. The rush is on. I’ve done the sensible thing and told work. There may be times I have to run out to the lawyers or take calls so felt it was worth letting them know. They are supportive. People are offering boxes. Love these guys.

Tonight’s agenda is to make a plan. Work out what we need to do and then put it into motion.

Things I’ve started thinking about:

  • what addresses do we need to change
  • what do we need to cancel
  • what are we taking to dparents
  • what goes into storage
  • what gets dumped

If ever there was a time for emotional spending this is it.

But I’ve only spent £8 in M&S on fruit. Yippee

Wolfcub · 06/08/2018 13:03

Blue you could make pesto with you rocket and freeze that if you have loads. Parsley could be parsley sauce then frozen of chimmichurri

SnugglySnerd · 06/08/2018 13:08

Too much CBeebies has been watched today! I'm tired so enjoying a sit down. Need to summon the energy to go out later.

I've also just had an epiphany! There is loads of Ikea storage on eBay and it's already been assembled! Also stops me fr spending an extra hundred quid in the marketplace!

Cagliostro · 06/08/2018 13:14

Welcome chocolate :)

I'm in the 'have savings despite also having debt' camp too, we knew we'd be moving this year (for newbies we have just been given a lovely HA house after being high priority for over a year due to medical needs between me and the Caglets... Apologies in advance for going on and on about it as I feel very lucky :o) so it made sense to keep some in the ISA. We have just under £2k on a credit card from general spending but it's on 0% now and we do the standing order trick, even without our plan of throwing some extra at it we will clear it well before the 0% ends so not worried.

:o Snuggly kids are funny aren't they. Mine are super excited that I suggested getting a water jug for the dinner table with ice and lemon, they said it'll be like being at a restaurant :o when really I'm just trying to trick them into drinking more water (they like it, but need reminding)

Eeeeek em exciting!

Hate to admit it but the baby slept more than ever last night. She actually fell asleep at 7, normally she would wake after that and I haven't ever got her in her bed before 10 Blush but she slept till 9.30 this morning with two feeds in between. Of course I now feel all out of sorts and wibbly from the extra sleep. So not getting much done today at all.

Cagliostro · 06/08/2018 13:18

Em you need a Moving Notebook! We are still using ours for to do lists, decorating plans, house stuff we need to buy etc.

Bonus points if you use a notebook you already have rather than buying one :o (I can't be smug about that though as my mum happened to buy me a notebook)

ememem84 · 06/08/2018 13:29

Ok. Rates bill paid £332.76 for the year. We should get £123.98 back once they apportion it after sale.

cag I have a notebook I carry everywhere with me. I’ll dedicate a few pages.

CurlsandCurves · 06/08/2018 13:36

Ooh em exciting times!

Cag yay for sleeping babies! Hope it continues.

Didn’t need to go to the bank in the end, the mortgage guy rang me and it was all sorted over the phone. Just need to email him some documents. He seems to think it should be fairly straightforward. I used money saving experts mortgage calculator. And the amount we want to borrow increases our monthly payments by less than the amount we currently overpay. If that makes sense!

ScandiLady · 06/08/2018 13:47

Exciting times em
Bought some grocery together with my greatgrandmother so 25£ but with our clear freezer month it should last till weekend. Now off to grandmother to help her with grocery shopping.
Dd1 has a trekking scooter she got for her birthday but its simply to big and heavy for her. She has growth inhibitory so I need to find a better fittet one for her.
Tomorrow is her quarterly eye doctor appointment, hope the strength don't need new adjustment.

QuiteCleanBandit · 06/08/2018 13:49

DBS average is 3-4weeks for nil declared.
If applicant is living in London there can be delays .
If an applicant has lived overseas in the past 5 years , then since April they need an overseas police check in addition to DBS .
That really slows things down by 6/8 weeks.
Thanks mammy pondering Groupon .

TheDuchessofDukeStreet · 06/08/2018 13:50

Hello, jumping back on after a bit of time out, although I have been lurking.
Frugal things so far
Big shop at Aldi , cleaning supplies and things to make freezer meals, and to bake with.
Received £12.50 in Tesco vouchers so used it to purchase things I can’t get in Aldi such as nice squash etc. Took advantage of three for two offers etc, shopped in the baby aisle for shampoo and body wash, so managed £21 worth of shopping for about £7.50
Restrained shop at Costco, big tub of Vanish, foil trays for freezer meals, dishwasher tablets.
Unearthed water filter, we are filling our own bottles/flasks with water and squash and not buying water. I didn’t know Costco has drinking fountains and bought a bottle from their vending machine, well, not anymore.
Making own ice cubes and decanting into a freezer bag so we have lots to go at.
Making packed lunches for self as well as DP.
Planning outings for next week that cost nothing, as I’m not working many shifts and family are coming to stay, seaside, local Nt, Weald and Downland museum and will take picnics.
Have bought and frozen bread rolls, teacakes and croissants, all yellow stickered for breakfasts and lunches. Also in the freezer are three packs of yellow stickered Mars bars for DP lunches and days out. I will eke these out though, we are not having a Mars a day!

ScandiLady · 06/08/2018 13:50

mammy no haven't been on here before. But quite funny if there's another Dane here Smile

Fluffycloudland77 · 06/08/2018 14:07

Your English is excellent Scandi.

Curls Excellent news.

Duchess Is that vanish sodium percarbonate? I think it's the same as the poundshop astonish one. If it is you'll know for next time. I do the ice cube bag too.

£10 petrol
£47 vets bill.

The new green jinn offers are rubbish unless your cat likes felix agail.

Tesco are doing bananas, melons & peaches for 49p.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 06/08/2018 14:28

Eek exciting em

Welcome newbies 😊

I just met up with a friend who has a 18 month old and 3 year old who had been up since 5 am! I thought of you snuggly I honestly don't think I could go back to that level of sleep deprivation! !

We had a nice time though, walked round a local beauty place I had a voucher to get in £11 for both of us. Spent £6 in the cafe, took a picnic for lunch.

Dds friends mum messaged back, the friend is going to come over tomos afternoon for a bit, maybe she was worried about sleeping over although I still think have response was rude.

lifelongfrugaleer · 06/08/2018 14:41

£402 of your English pounds on my drains, plumber here to fix leaky loo.
Also need an arborist to remove offending budlia

Flappyjack · 06/08/2018 14:42

sunny I am also rubbish at spending on myself. DH has just gone into town to return some clothes I decided I didn't need after all.

love and quite I am certain my DBS check was sat on someone's desk for a few weeks before it was sent off. I have lived abroad but not in the last five years. I am getting very frustrated with it all. I am definitely not a patient person arghhh.

chocolate another one here with savings and debt (0% card). Thankfully more in former than latter - at long last.

I've had a statement off Tesco today £50.50 in clubcard christmas savers. I might top it up one day because they give you an extra £1.50. I plan to use this towards food shopping in December. I always buy turkey and trimmings from M & S.

Took DM out for coffee and a muffin this morning £7.35.

Quietly ignoring the pile of ironing in the corner of my eye and planning a day out for tomorrow. Priorities and all that 😜

lifelongfrugaleer · 06/08/2018 15:07

Meh it's too hot to iron.
Same as it's too hot to chop down 3 trees

ChristmasSeacow · 06/08/2018 15:08

We made it - now waiting to do it all again. I didn’t see your messages but DH did walk on with DS, which helped. I am still crap at reversing but at least no one was screeching at me!

Good news Em, all your earlier decluttering will pay off. Did you say your parents had suggested a limit as to how long they’d ideally want you to stay? Does this put a bit of fire into the new house search now too?

Snuggly it is a lovely peaceful place... but unfortunately I do still have my dcs with me Grin. DS is being pretty difficult today, tbh I wish we’d done an easier trip after such a bad night. We couldn’t just cut our losses and go home early as the return ferry was booked; we’ve also had to walk a fair bit from the road to see the main prehistoric sights. They were fab though, and worth the very steep climb back to the car I won’t be able to walk tomorrow We had our picnic overlooking the sea, nestled into the well-preserved ruins of a Stone Age fortified house called a broch. This stone building is the broch, we picnicked on the other side out of the wind. One of the best picnic spots ever.

I am proper knackered now. Once I’ve fed the kids and sorted the washing/bedding I’m going to do as little as possible. DM arrives tomorrow!

QuiteCleanBandit · 06/08/2018 15:15

Flappy DBS is an online check now .
Well Ive ordered 90 Loo rolls and 24 kitchen rolls for £28 .
DH was moaning that I had 2 packs of 24 left so may have to smuggle out to the shed Grin

Cagliostro · 06/08/2018 15:17

Can anyone recommend a decent kitchen bin? I've never had a nice one. I want a nice one that will make me feel like a grown up (well, something has to)

ChristmasSeacow · 06/08/2018 15:24

Life was that on top of what you spent this morning? Double ouch Sad

Loveabaconsandwich · 06/08/2018 15:27

Exciting times em!

Hope everyone with little sleep last night gets through the day ok and has a better night tonight.

That's rubbish about the DBS if it has sat on someone's desk flappy. Will you have to work out your notice period in the current job before starting the new job once it is sorted?

Welcome newbies and returners

£30 Lidl
£10 Subway

We treated DP and us to subway for lunch. Picked him up from work, fed him and then dropped him back.

Whenever we go to Lidl it reminds me of going food shopping at supermarkets abroad. So we pretended to be on holiday whilst doing the food shopping this morning Smile

Flappyjack · 06/08/2018 15:27

cag we need a new bin too. Ours is currently held together with masking tape and fishing wire.

lifelong its warm but not boiling here. We had our heatwave a few weeks ago and I stopped ironing, cleaning and cooking to avoid completely melting into a pool. I did feel slightly twitchy at the grime and mess but what can you do??

I judt checked my bank account and forgot a few purchases yesterday. £62.59 Tesco, all food. £16.00 diesel. £29.50 school photos. I only buy every couple of years because £££
