Sorry to hear you are poorly Em.

I really cannot keep up with the thread at the moment.

CremeEggThief · 23/04/2018 21:40

Spendy day here, as I had to go into town for DS's parents' evening. Fairly good reports and saw most of his teachers, so pleased with that. So, bus fare: £6.50; meal out (our little
parents' evening tradition every year) of delicious Middle Eastern mezze £30, including tip; £7.54 in Tesco.

Glad your DS seems to be perkier, Em. Hopefully a good night's sleep will help you.

Sunny, are your parents moving in this week? Hope all goes well.

QuiteCleanBandit · 23/04/2018 22:10

Heating has been off ages here !
Bill is down by at least a third might be able to halve Smile
em was DH like this pre DS?
What on earth has MIL said to him?
I cant imagine DH leaving me to go to OOH alone just because he thought he was rightSad .
Hope you get some sleep
Sainsburys pharmacy sell 64 over the counter paracetamol for about £1.98 .

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 23/04/2018 22:22

Fair enough em you know your baby best, am glad he seems perkier bless him.

seacow glad your dad has settled okay, dd has some sensory seeking tendencies which has often ended in tears!! We had an interesting chat tonight about a new friend who apparently is a bit 'grabby' and tactile, I suggested that just as dd has tactile defensiveness maybe her friend is the opposite!

I've had a horrible headache all day 😩 nothing seems to have helped it so have had to plough on with work, dinner and clearing up etc. Knackered now so off to bed 😪

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 23/04/2018 22:49

fluffy my heating is off and the plan in to try and keep it off until November now....

ememem84 · 24/04/2018 03:31

quite to answer questions, yes to an extent re mil dh was like this pre ds. She arrives in a month. So things have gotten to that “shit she arrives in a month” stage.

I left dh at home to go to ooo. He disagrees that it was necessary. And I flounced with ds.

Ds is now in our room. On our bed sleeping. Dh is in ds’ room. He decided to sleep in with him to give me a break but I heard him crying. Dh said he’s been crying for a while and he couldn’t calm him. Turns out he’s peed through his nappy his best onesie and sleeping bag. That’d be why then...so clean and dry now. Here’s hoping sir wetsalot doesn’t pee through his new jammies and sleeping bag on my bed!

SunnyLikeThursday · 24/04/2018 03:41

Scatty Thanks for asking. My Dad is still very able, but he looks after my Mum who is not very mobile and doesn't drive.

Creme Yes that's right. They arrive on Wednesday. They started travelling today.

Em Greyrock technique sounds like something I need to know. Good idea to send dh to someone professional. We've done that here too, to learn better how to manage family relationships. Really helped.

Does anybody know how to tell the difference between a cold and hayfever at this time of year if they can't take antihistamines? I seem to have one or the other, really a lot.

lifelongfrugaleer · 24/04/2018 05:36

Urgh early train to London. First day went well thanks. OMG at the amount of work though.

Hope everyone got more sleep than I did.

mammynowanauntyIRL · 24/04/2018 05:39

Have read as far as here, I'm super tired at the moment so not posting much. On top of being tired post viral fatigue, we've been trying to night train ds with limited success but now he doesn't want nappy back on so H is taking him to loo when he's getting up at 11pm, I'm setting an alarm for 2.15am and taking him again at 5.30/6 so he's dry in the morning so he's really happy to be a big boy with no nappy Grin I'm not going to be here tomorrow night and can't really ask au pair to get up in middle of night to do it so it'll be interesting to see if he wets.

I've been using grey rock for a couple of years with H without even knowing it Grin

My mother wanted painkillers here at the weekend and all I could find was out of date disprin Shock I've got children's meds alright but not adults, maybe I need to do a chemist direct order again.

mammynowanauntyIRL · 24/04/2018 05:40

Life glad to hear first day went well Star

SunnyLikeThursday · 24/04/2018 06:04

I just opened a packet of salmon and it had a small black curly pubic hair in it. I have binned the salmon. ShockShockShock

ChristmasSeacow · 24/04/2018 06:08

Probably not, Life! DS has worked out how to open our new front door when it is double locked (it has a thumb turn thingy inside) and so I can’t definitively lock him in. I have been worrying about it for half the night as he occasionally tries to get out! The door installation chap said we shouldn’t install a chain or similar as the door is not meant to be drilled into and is hollow in some places and solid metal in others... but I think I’ll have to try. Eek. Anyway, glad you’ve got off to a good start with the job. Do you have to get such an early train every day?

Hay fever is awful at the mo Sunny. A friend who is breastfeeding (so can’t take anti-H) bought some nasal spray and also a little pot of some sort of waxy stuff that you rub around eyes and nostrils to trap the pollen. Sort of like the Vaseline trick but it’s not as sticky as wearing Vaseline and she doesn’t look shiny. It’s working brilliantly for her. She got it in boots - it’s in a teeny bright yellow tub like a very teeny lip balm. Worth a try if you haven’t already?

I wish I could go back to bed - so tired... dd needed feeding at 1.30am and was then up at 5.30.

Trip to a local little homeware shop planned for today. Never been before but they have some beautiful prints of a picture of our local bluebell wood (saw on fb) and I really want one. Hope they haven’t sold them all

ememem84 · 24/04/2018 06:56

sunny grey rock in my opinion is a good one to learn. You have to be small and blend in and be uninteresting (like a grey rock). Give nothing away about yourself.

So conversations with mil usually go as follows:

How’s work? It’s fine thank you.
Who do you work for (mil knows what I do as she used to do a similar job) I can’t say it’s confidential.
What are you doing at the weekend? Going riding.
How’s that going? Fine thank you.
Is it expensive (getting at is dh paying for it?) not really.

Anything which involves more information I defer to dh. If there are crowds of people I talk to them. Or if there are more than 3 of us I talk to them. You give away nothing about yourself.

It can feel rude, but when you’re dealing with a narcissist it’s much much safer for your own mental health.

Wolfcub · 24/04/2018 07:09

Life I hate the early starts on a Tuesday! I have a rare week of not going though as I need to do the school run.
Em hope ds got back to sleep and stayed r layovers dry
Sunny fingers crossed your parents have a good journey.

SunnyLikeThursday · 24/04/2018 07:36

Em That sounds very useful. I'll try that. Thanks.

Christmas The hayfever stuff sounds great too. I'll look that up when I'm in boots.

I hear your problem with locks. We had that too. I think that with the thumb turn thing on the inside of your door it should be super easy to switch that for a regular key lock. You need to remove one of these:

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Thumb-Turn-Cylinder-Euro-Lock-UPVC-Doors-Anti-Pick-Brass-or-Nickel-with-3-Keys-/272249466929

and put in one of these:

www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yale-Euro-Cylinder-Barrel-Door-Lock-6-Pin-UPVC-Door-Aluminium-Wood-PVC-Doors-/120478756846

It's really easy and I've done it loads of times. My husband and I changed the locks on my parents' new house when it was bought.

If you want me to talk you through how to do it I can. It takes five minutes and needs one flat-head screwdriver.

SunnyLikeThursday · 24/04/2018 07:37

btw if you do decide to order a new lock cylinder, you need to measure it. I'll explain how if you want to know.

WreckTangled · 24/04/2018 07:38

Pay day today.

£107 on childcare for the month, luckily there was already some in the childcare account otherwise it would have been more.
£150 back into savings
£275 into joint account.

Have added up my direct debits and will have £130 left for the month. Sad times.

ememem84 · 24/04/2018 08:14

Ds stayed dry for the remainder of the night. Catface came up on the bed with us and together the two of them tried to nudge me off. #notcool

I’ve just said to dh I’m reluctant to drop ds at nursery today because he’s still poorly. But he’s (rightly) pointed out that it’s me on my own today. And I’m not feeling great either. So I’d be better off sending ds and trying to rest up myself. (Although resting up involves a food shop, a trip to the farm shop where we can get “seconds” of fruit and veg - perfect for smushing for ds and a post office trip).

scattyspice · 24/04/2018 08:14

Morning all 😊

There are likely to be adjustments ahead for all of you when your parents arrive Sunny . We have had similar changes this year as fil died in January and mil is housebound, has worked out ok so far though.

Work today, should be NSD.

SunnyLikeThursday · 24/04/2018 08:26

Scatty that's good to know, thanks. I'm a bit apprehensive about it tbh, but hoping for the best. I've been seeing a councillor and talking to my GP about relationship problems from the past and when I told them family were moving here I got a sharp intake of breath from both. I'm hoping that it will be easier now we're (family) are all grown up, so to speak.

Sorry to hear you lost your FIL.

mammynowanauntyIRL · 24/04/2018 08:46

wreck Remember when payday used to be exciting!!
what has the £130 to cover? Food/Fuel etc or unforeseen expenses eg gp or luxuries only?

H said that his wages weren't paid on Friday, and they would be paid yesterday. He didn't do his transfer to joint account yesterday either. I could snoop to see when/if he was paid but I won't. If I did and he was paid as usual on Fri, it's a blatant lie because he was changing his van on Sat and needed the money to cover that Angry

So I withdrew cash from my account to cover some cash bills at the weekend and will need to do the same again today. I can't transfer it back from joint account until he puts in his weekly share. There are no direct debits to come out of either account until after I get paid Thurs so it makes no difference that way.

I'm going to meet my niece tomorrow for the first time Grin

WreckTangled · 24/04/2018 09:09

Mammy it's completely spare money. Will need to cover y sisters birthday present. Although it's now down to £100 because I treated myself to these awesome new trainers BlushGrin but that's my pay day treat. Also just remembered dh will give me £25 when he gets paid on the 10th so that's fine.

Emds went through a phase of weeing lots at night like that. We put a second nappy, back to front on top of the other to keep him dry. Now he's eating more food and having less milk it's stopped anyway.

Terrible night here. I need more tea!

LonelyOversharer · 24/04/2018 09:34

Oh I must not look at trainers! I have 3 wearable pairs just now. Another thing not needed by me in 2018! So far my list is: lottery tickets, scratchcards, and now trainers. Not buying my usual new pair of Fly London Yuna this year either, as I have 3 pairs (pale blue, teal, magenta) I want patent navy blue ones

Spent £2.20 on milk so far, but am at home all today, hoping for no more spends. I'm going to trim my Marshalls basket and order that though.

WreckTangled · 24/04/2018 10:18

I have lots of trainers Blush
