What a fab few days! We've gone from winter to summer in the same week. And of course, I'm totally unprepared. I was sweltering in my winter coat. I need to get a summer jacket and shave my legs/pits. And get suncream etc. By the time I've done all that, the sun's bound to disappear and it will turn cold again.

I went shopping for a summer jacket this evening but they had very little in the way of summer coats or jackets. I was tempted to buy lots of nice summery tops but I resisted. I have loads of them packed away from last year. I just have to root them out. As well as the jacket, my summer wardrobe could do with another pair of cropped trousers and some sandals.

I would like find some nice clothes too Tayto. I've been a bit of a zombie for a few years post-df but my GP is straightening me out and I feel like dressing nicely for the first time in the best part of decade. I think I might have a look in the John Lewis fabric section and see what is there.

I’m worried about ds. I think he’s ok. But also not sure iyswim.

He threw up earlier. He had a bit of his dinner then coughed loads then threw up. He also keeps pulling his ear. He cries when we lie him down.

I’m thinking a combination of hot day, teething, cold and maybe swallowing a lot of snottyness. Which seems reasonable. Right?

QuiteCleanBandit · 20/04/2018 21:24

em
If he cries when he lies down and is pulling his ear he could have an ear infection.
The snotty fluid pools and makes the ear drum bulge causing pain.
Their gag reflex is quite triggery at that age -cough /vom

QuiteCleanBandit · 20/04/2018 21:27

I havent caught up at all.
Hope everyone is ok and has been enjoying the weather.
Walked home -bliss

WreckTangled · 20/04/2018 21:28

Only just getting the dc to bed, would have been a perfect day had it not been for dd habit a meltdown when we got it, dh made snide remarks about how late it was and how they're always the same they get home to him and they have a meltdown (like I haven't been with them for the past six hours?! Dick) anyway I had a great time.

Em does he have a temperature? Ear infections can often present without one though I would see how he is tomorrow but might be worth getting him seen. I wouldn't necessarily worry about the sick, ds has always had a sensitive gag reflex and was often sick, the other symptoms sound suspicious though.

SunnyLikeThursday · 20/04/2018 21:32

He also might have caught his first nursery d&v bug. They're never that much fun, but unfortunately a feature of having social contact with other kids at that age, especially if a bit short of vitamins.

As I understand it, the rules are:

Watch the fluids and if he gets floppy or lack lustre then zoom to the out of hours gp.

As far as I can tell, they don't do anything unless the kid is so dehydrated as to be floppy, in which case they put in a saline drip until the child is strong enough object to the drip line.

If there is a temperature that won't go below 38 degrees with calpol then that's an antibiotic job.

Everything else in my experience, just has to be ploughed though, but with plenty of care and attention over fluids.

Take care there. It's not the most fun this kind of stuff. Flowers

ememem84 · 20/04/2018 21:33

And I’m reassured. Will see how he is tomorrow and will get him seen if necessary.

The dr did say that they don’t tend to give antib’s for ear infections any more and if he had one just to Let it run it’s course. He checked his ear on Monday and it didn’t look bad (he was pulling it then). So suspected teething.

Our out of hours are good and will always see kids under 1 ASAP so if I can’t get him in to our gp tomorrow I’ll take him there.

I’m seeing the specialist tomorrow re my hands. I had bloods done ages ago now (early March maybe) and suspect nothing is wrong as if there was anything they’d have called me in earlier. So fingers crossed. If I can get ds in at around the same time I’m there (same building) win win.

SunnyLikeThursday · 20/04/2018 21:34

Oh yes, and ears can be looked into can't they? So the GP could look in the ear and see if the ear drum is red.

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/04/2018 21:35

Can you prop his cot up at the head end? Dose of calpol?

I had loads of childhood ear infections, my ear canals are wrong apparently.

ememem84 · 20/04/2018 21:38

No temperature. It’s been between 36 and 37 today (I’ve been checking as it’s hot here and he felt hot but because it’s hot...) and he’s been drinking milk and water. And wet nappies etc. And not off his food. He sicked the. Went back to his dinner. I gave him some water straight away then gingerly gave him his dinner back. He was fine. And hasn’t been sick since.

He’s had some calpol. And is sleeping. I’m erring on the side of caution but do think probably cold/hot day/surprised by lumps in food.

Wolfcub · 20/04/2018 21:39

Em that says ear infection to me. Call out of hours or see gp tomorrow if you can

ememem84 · 20/04/2018 21:40

Cot-prop! Yes! Why didn’t I think of that?

We had his basket on a tilt. But not cot. I’ll find something and prop if he wakes up.

Taytocrisps · 20/04/2018 21:41

"I’m thinking a combination of hot day, teething, cold and maybe swallowing a lot of snottyness. Which seems reasonable. Right?"

Sounds about right em. Keep an eye on his temperature. When DD started in creche she seemed to be constantly catching colds and infections. She ended up in hospital at one point because she wasn't keeping any fluids down. I'd only just gone back to work and had to take time off due to her being sick. It was very stressful but things settled down after a few months.

ememem84 · 20/04/2018 21:45

Kids are a bugger for worry aren’t they?!

I knew he’d get sick at nursery. Just didn’t think it’s be so soon! Haha.

In other news. I am a bit sunburnt again. I sunscreened ds. Sunscreened him to the max. Just forgot myself.

Dh asked me how I forgot. I said “I didn’t have any sunscreen...” he told me I was an idiot because duh ds’ sunscreen is sunscreen and would have worked on me!!

Wolfcub · 20/04/2018 21:55

Em I think ds was sick every week for the first six months of nursery, unfortunately every time he got sick so did dm who was out only other source of childcare. I consider it an investment as I think the only days he’s ever had off school in 6 years have been concussion

WreckTangled · 20/04/2018 22:02

Can I recommend an app? We were told about it at my training today it's called iResus and has everything on it for if someone is choking, in anaphylactic shock, cardiac arrest etc in literally three seconds you can be on the bit you need and it just reminds you of all the things you need to be doing. I've looked at it and it's brilliant, I'm going to recommend it to everyone Grin

ememem84 · 20/04/2018 22:05

wolf that’s what everyone keeps telling me. Short term pain (me figuratively ds probably literally) long term immunity gain.

He will be fine. He’s a tough one.

Have propped his cot up with some books. Windows open in his room. One downside of an indoors cat and a south facing double glazed apartment. Warm!!!

22 degrees apparently in his room. He’s wearing a no legs bodysuit and is just on his mattress no sleeping bag. We bagged him yesterday and he woke up crying because he was too hot. Can’t have windows too open as catface will go out and we don’t want that as she’ll not be able to get back in.

Fluffycloudland77 · 20/04/2018 22:08

We have a huge ceiling fan. It’s fugly but we rarely get a sleepless night now.

It’s very quiet.

It’s currently in our old room but we’re moving it in here tm.

SunnyLikeThursday · 20/04/2018 22:14

That sounds good Wreck. I wish I had a smartphone now.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 20/04/2018 22:30

Dd was another one who had constant ear infections, viruses and anything else going when she started nursery!! I have found this to be the most difficult aspect of being a working mum actually, you feel guilty working if they're poorly and you feel guilty telling work you won't be in if you take carers leave.

I've only got the one child, no idea how people do it with more than one 😅

CremeEggThief · 20/04/2018 22:35

Cheers for the recommendation, Wreck. Your afternoon at the beach sounds great.

Spends: £5.30, coffee and cake in Costa with a good friend, who also bought me a coffee. Then, another friend showed up at my house, so lots of socialising for introverted me this afternoon!

ememem84 · 21/04/2018 01:36

Back in the room with ds now. Have fully opened windows and shut his door so catface can’t get in. Slightly annoyed with dh as I’ve been in here 4 nights now and I asked him to stay in here so I could get a proper sleep. Only he forgot. Or “forgot” I don’t know which. It’s 130am so I say “forgot”

Anyway. Ds hasn’t woken up was just mumbling loudly about his dummy falling out. I’ve poooed it back in and am in bed. He’s still sleeping.

I remember being a kid and having ear infections and not being able to sleep. If he’s crying because it’s hurting to lie him down surely he wouldn’t be able to sleep?!

As a side it’s not him not sleeping I’m worried about. He’s just being noisy. But he is still asleep.

girlie that’s another guilt I’m going to have to deal with isn’t it? Guilt for working (anyway whether they’re healthy or not), guilt for taking leave if poorly, guilt for working from home when poorly and guilt if dh takes the time off when he’s poorly because I feel I should be there instead. Aaah!

lifelongfrugaleer · 21/04/2018 07:13

How you managed to get back to sleep em. Keep an eye on him today and get him checked if your are concerned.

Looks like it's going to be another sunny day.

Yesterday was emotional. I got a fab send off, more people that I thought came to my presentation or came past to say goodbye. Lots of lovely gifts too. It was emotional as the people are awesome but the substantive promo was not meant to be so new things next week. I will still see loads of them anyway the two places are like extended family.

TheDuchessofDukeStreet · 21/04/2018 07:13

Wreck, could I ask what the parking is like at West Wittering? It looks glorious. We normally go to Littlehampton.

Hoping for low spends today. I’m taking a load of carrier bags to the charity shop over the road so will probably have a mooch around too. I’ve sorted two bags of books for them too, trying to declutter the shelves a bit. DP is working overtime today so I’m going to hit the house. Small shops at Tesco and Aldi later.
