My millennial baby rejects avocado Angry. We’ll be ostracised by the local baby groups Wink

Wolfcub · 16/04/2018 13:15

Mammy how was the cottage?

Been to see school (bloody hard) dropped in a bag at the charity shop, went to the bottle bank with a handful of bottles and jars and donated 3 pairs of glasses

Went through the single girl budget again with added annual expenses and it’s tight as a gnats arse but I could make it work. That’s based on current wage though as I don’t know what new job take home pay will be so it suggests that we won’t need to live on Value beans forever - I really thought we were out of the horrendously poor/hard years. This all depends of course on 1. Soon to be Ex h playing ball on a financial settlement and house handover and 2. The mortgage company agreeing to a sole mortgage for me. If he starts playing silly buggers then we will be in a whole different situation and my level of rage will increase significantly

Has anybody worked out how to get the actual news online, just the headlines, without all the unnecessary grimness that's on the bbc news pages these days? I've tried a few days without the bbc and it's much more restful, but now I know nothing about what's going on. I'm wondering if the today programme is the thing maybe?

ememem84 · 16/04/2018 13:49

Ds has been in the wars. Poor little babboooo.

He was doing some beautiful sitting st nursery and then lost his balance and fell forwards and bonked his head on the toybox. Oops. He has a cold and what nursery think may be conjunctivitis. We’re at drs now.

I’m glad we payfor our drs here. Admittedly this will probably cost me £40 but I called at 1.25 and am here now. Appointment at 2.

Wolfcub · 16/04/2018 14:18

Oh no Em poor ds, it’s fantastic that you can get an appointment so quickly though. I hope he’s ok.

Sunny I try not to follow the daily news closely because it’s just too much. I do hear news on the radio when I’m in the car. I follow important stories of interest/global importance but I choose to access those stories

Laska5772 · 16/04/2018 14:59

Sunny I gave up the Today programme and PM as i just found myself getting seriously depressed by it all! 6 music onthe way to work and back now all the way! Much cheerier . I tend to stick to BBCand Guardian websites now

ememem84 · 16/04/2018 15:15

£47 at the gp. Ds needed drops for conjunctivitis. Dr also prescribed more calpol, and has told me to come back and see him if i get it (more than likely).
Nursery will let him back as long as we’ve seen the dr and have a prescription for him. They don’t need to administer drops though as they’re twice a day. So I can do that at home. Hooray!!!

Cagliostro · 16/04/2018 15:16

That's interesting that others notice the same. I was talking to my GP about anxiety trouble this morning and he said lots of people have it from looking at the news. He says with men it's often worry about being accused of sexual harassment. I hadn't thought of that.

AdoraBell · 16/04/2018 17:08

£6 on iron on patches for jeans
£10 on revision supplies for DDs

SunnyLikeThursday · 16/04/2018 17:11

I just spent £13 on a blood pressure cuff. Ds has to have his blood pressure taken for a visit to the hospital next week, and he always goes batshit when they put blood pressure cuffs on him. We are going to practise.

mammymammyIRL · 16/04/2018 17:21

wolf the cottage was ok, it needs updating but nothing imminent.

It would be possible to clean it, buy some furniture and move in within a week after getting keys.
It's basically a 4 room shell which opens it up to rooms being repurposed.

I had a plan to extend out the back which may still work but I would need planning for an entrance off the road as there's only a pedestrian one currently. It's like the main entrance and roadway to shed at the back were part of the house but are not included in the sale.
There's room to one side of house for this/extension though. Estate agent floated that the vendors may be open to renting though before I purchased as I'm not in a position to buy anything currently while I'm already committed to our joint mortgage. I'll have to see what mediation brings before I commit to anything or make a concrete plan of action.

You're doing really really well since whatever happened with your dh, you're being practical and getting on with things and so is your ds, well done on that, as it can't be easy when you didn't see it coming.

I can't imagine meal planning being high on my agenda. How did your meeting go at the school?

em my dd had conjunctivitis with every single tooth she cut and although my eyes would get itchy I think it was in my head rather than an actual infection. She hated having the drops put in. Get arnica for the bump on his head too. Poor babba.

sunny I don't watch the news at all, I see the occasional headline pop up on facebook and if it's interesting I look at it. I listen to the news on radio perhaps once a day and only if it suits me. I do hear from people at work about major events but I live happily without knowing about the terrible goings on being flashed in front of my eyes repetitively HmmShockConfused

Mammy that's a good approach to the news. I used to be like that, but I got really into it when the scottish referendum happened and never got myself unhooked. Just in the last few days I've stopped looking at the BBC news webpage and it's been much better that way. I do feel as thought I ought to know what's going on a bit though. Hard to know how to find only the important bits.

ChristmasSeacow · 16/04/2018 17:50

I think with news you also have to be quite careful not to expose your children to more than they can handle (whatever the appropriate threshold for them). A uni friend of mine was brought up on current affairs debates (lectures!) at the dinner table every night from as young as she can remember and she said she spent her entire childhood in a heightened state of anxiety because of it.

First day at school survived all round (though DS is currently wearing his trousers inside out and won’t be told!). Dd shovelled dauphinoise potatoes into her mouth with her fist but the green beans and gammon got chucked straight on the floor Grin. I am now peeling segments of satsuma one by one for Her Highness.

Your meal plan sounded lovely Cag, it does add up very quickly if you buy a decent range of fruit and veg, I find.

ChristmasSeacow · 16/04/2018 17:55

It sounds as though you’ve got your practical head on Mammy but the cottage didn’t give you The Feels. Are you going to keep looking for other options or would you go for this if you can sort the settlement with H?

Wolf you are doing amazingly. I am sure it was really hard meeting with the school Flowers

Wigwigeconomist · 16/04/2018 17:56

Hi all

Thanks for the new thread mammy
Been a struggle for me this month
Had lots going on and this has meant we have loosened the reins somewhat
Tightening up again for the end of he month and wishing pay day was a little sooner than it is!
Catching up on thread now

ememem84 · 16/04/2018 18:05

Cousins of mine (my cousins kids) wouldn’t go to the beach when they came over for our wedding because of tsunamis.

Also didn’t want to play out as they might get raped.

Kids were 7 and 11 at the time. Sad time’s.

I tend to steer away from the news. Too much sadness.

Fluffycloudland77 · 16/04/2018 18:45

Is that #vegan cousin? Add her to the novel. Sub plot.

LonelyOversharer · 16/04/2018 19:01

Only just finished tea. Very late. A tomato based chicken thy casserole that dp makes, fragrant not spicy, very tasty. I did the rice. He fussed over it like it was a pfb...apparently the absorption method is "wrang". It actually is perfect.

We had to run up into scotland to drop off/pick up bikes. How the other half live! But the guy is super nice. Stopped off at Gretna outlet on the way back as I forgot to get dd3 school shoes Blush parent fail. £28 for this season lace up brouges. £12 thorntons icecream, pudding before firsts.

Their coconut chocolate icecream is the sweeping ups from the coconut ice department, it is devine.

How on earth did I forget to buy one of my children school shoes? Ffs.

wolf you are being a super star. Life will get easier by and by.

I avoid the news.

SnugglySnerd · 16/04/2018 19:05

Mmmm dauphinoise potatoes... I bet my kids would like that. They are potato addicts! That amused me about the avocado Seacow.

Wolf you are doing brilliantly. How on earth you are thinking about meal planning I do not know.

I avoid the news too Sunny I just hear the headlines on radio 2. It's all too depressing. I never felt that this pre-dcs but I'm more emotional now.

NSD. Must go and get on with something...

Wolfcub · 16/04/2018 19:19

Mammy renting the cottage sounds like an interesting option especially if you can make it work for you in the short term whilst you go through mediation.

Sea I love the vision of dd stuffing dolphin-nose in her face. So cute

Em that’s awful. Ds’s school all got very frightened about killer clowns, it only takes one of them to watch the news and then it spreads amongst them

Your tea sounds lovely Lonely

Meeting with school was hard. There have been tears today. Dh needs to tell his family what is really going on so ds and I can have their support too but he is totally no contact. I am expecting him to come to the house whilst I am away tomorrow to pick up some things. I have left him a letter in response to him note to me last week. It’s a bit bitter to be honest but I’m quite pissed off that he’s just left me with everything to deal with. If he doesn’t come I will post it.

Loveabaconsandwich · 16/04/2018 19:28

NSD

A bit concerned as I finally asked if I was getting a copy of my employment contract today. And it says the job is initially for three months. I’m hoping this is basically so he can get rid of unsuitable staff easily (obviously I am great Grin), but it worries me. This was never mentioned before. The other half of me thinks maybe the job will end so I can spend the summer with the DC and get a sun tan instead of being pale Wink

It all sounds very uncertain wolf but you are doing great. I was wondering if your DH was about to get his board and lodging provided by the tax payer, but it doesn’t sound so. Is he likely to struggle to get any work now though?

scattyspice · 16/04/2018 19:29

Me again (new girl NK), sorry for all the confusing name changes, having trouble with the app, I'm going to stick with this one for now though.
All the weaning talk takes me back 😊 (and the fussy eating).
NSD as planned and have made a couscous salad for this week's work lunches 😊.

Loveabaconsandwich · 16/04/2018 19:32

My DC don’t like the talking programmes eg the news so we rarely watch it. I seem to travel in the car between news bullletins nowadays so never really hear it so n the radio. I only click on news stories that look interesting so I am often out of the loop.
