Oops sorry girlie I took so long replying, the :o was actually at your mum’s toy rules, not the autism thing! I haven’t watched the programme - I tend to shy away from that sort of thing until I know what people think of it, like wanting spoilers! I think I will watch it as it sounds ok.
It’s certainly got people talking, but I have already had to share a “no, everyone is NOT ‘a little autistic’” post, as it really really winds me up when people say that. Everyone has traits, maybe even traits that make them struggle with something (like eye contact), but not everyone has enough to ‘pass’ the diagnostic test, which is a representation of the fact that they have enough traits to significantly impact their daily life. A lot of autistic people find it really hurtful as it minimises what it means to actually really be autistic 😳😂
ANYWAY. 😳
So Girlie, I know you’ve mentioned that she has an SPD dx, it is very common to be a dual dx with autism (actually am really impressed she has that diagnosed as a lot of trusts refuse now apparently!) as sensory issues are such a huge part of it. Also it’s worth noting that especially with girls, increasing pressure at times like moving up to junior/secondary school is often a cause of symptoms/behaviours suddenly becoming more apparent. Girls who have been able to ‘mask’ their issues find it harder as the pressures pile on and the mask slips IYSWIM. But what I mean is you might be seeing more of the issues now, obviously most kids find it hard to move up to a big secondary, but for autistic children it can be extreme. TBH it was moving from a tiny infant school to a massive five form entry junior that suddenly brought out lots of my DD’s issues (only took a term and a half for us to start home ed).
So it may be worth looking into further. Always happy to chat here/PM 💐
Speaking of PM sorry I haven’t replied yet sunny am about to run around like a blue arsed fly (as my DH would say
