Ok I need help. Frugal ideas for dh’s 50th welcome. I’ve just proposed a weekend in a poncy wigwam (not frugal) and got the “face”. He doesn’t really have friends and our house is tiny so a party isn’t really a flyer. I want to make it special but I can’t afford to spend very much if I’m being honest with myself, the final holiday payment is due the week after his big day

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/01/2018 19:49

Is it palm oil too. I thought there was something different. No more.
Well done on the time need.

lifelongfrugaleer · 14/01/2018 19:51

Congratulations Mrs nobuts

Unescorted · 14/01/2018 20:04

wolf shame he doesn't like the wigwam. You could have borrowed ours. We could have put it up in our local campsite for you and dragged rugs and wood burner over to make it the cheapest luxury camp ever. Disadvantage would be the rain.
What does he like doing? Is he outdoorsy or more of a stay inside type person?

Nocuts congratulations.

Unescorted · 14/01/2018 20:05

wreck that cat is huge! Did it escape from a zoo?

FadingSomewhereInHollywood · 14/01/2018 20:06

Congrats nocuts!

Thanks for the welcome ladies, and for all the tips! I do have quidco etc but do forget to use it sometimes. Ive been lurking on these threads for a while so actually have been doing a lot of this stuff...but my willpower isn't the best so I'm hoping you all can help me with that.

I've never lived near an Aldi before but just checked maps and there's one quite close to my house so will be using that for cleaning stuff from now on!

Mmm, I love tacos mammy! Quite jealous, though my chilli is not too far off that Smile

Wolfcub · 14/01/2018 20:13

He’s a stay insider Unescorted, he does like camping but only when it is warm! He is a stereotypical geek, as am I. Likes boardgames/tabletop. He will go outside and walk when pushed but wouldn’t be his choice.

Bornlazy · 14/01/2018 20:18

Love all your kitchens. I'm not brave enough to post mine.

Congratulations nocuts and well done for having a frugalish wedding. If you can do that you can do anything Wink

Low spend day today £8 in the Coop on bread, cold meat and random reduced Christmas crap.

Second weekend of no takeaways Halo

Laska5772 · 14/01/2018 20:22

At least I have had help tidying the loose paper this evening. Look! You cant see it anymore Grin

Congrats nocuts

wreck omg huge cat!!!

Lovely afternoon here. I managed a short nap. Kitchen cleaned. Dh’s friend put everything away in the wrong place but I didn’t have to clean so....

I’m pretty sure ds is teething. Flushed cheeks, aggro, super dribbly, putting hands and everything he can in his mouth.... he’s 16 weeks today. I can’t see any teefs but I guess they take a while. He goes through being happy to superbly grouchy. 😪

Unescorted · 14/01/2018 20:27

Does it have to be for you both or could it be something like a knife making workshop? Or a brewery tour?

Laska5772 · 14/01/2018 20:27

Congratulations no cuts and Hi to anyone new her I haven't said hello to.. This is a great thread but moves fast !

mammy Yes I have some 'fun' money in the budget for this month .. but I was just supposedly not going to spend it because i am dieting and do really have lots of stuff I need to get back into ,not buy more .. but its a jumper, and if its OK , it will still fit even if I do lose the weight I need to

Wolfcub · 14/01/2018 20:31

It doesn’t have to be both of us. He’d probably quite like tank paintball or something. Brewery tour wouldn’t wash but something like knife making might. Off to google

PeoniesforMissAnnersley · 14/01/2018 20:34

I sent DH on a bread making course one year and on a foraging course at River Cottage one time, he loved both but especially the foraging which was a whole day including butchering a deer (he’s vegetarian too!!)

northender · 14/01/2018 20:55

Amazing time need, well done
Congrats nocuts & frugal too!
Lovely comments about our kitchen, thanks, but I'll come clean, the units are angled not curved! Curved would've cost £££. I do love the effect of the angled units though and it's a good use of space.

Fluffy is there a good website to check out which products use palm oil? Or one with palm oil free alternatives. I've got stuffing and gravy granules that contain it & I want to find alternatives.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 14/01/2018 21:03

Congrats nocuts

I am feeling smug at not having smelly man socks to wash - there are some perks to being single Wink Grin

Well I just blew my NSD out of the water, £33 Amazon a few more bits for dds bday and then £66 on theatre tickets!! Bit scared to check my account now as gone well over budget but she is my only baby girl and had a bit of a shit time recently so I feel its justified Grin

Her school are going to moan as well as am taking her out to go to the great aunts funeral the week after next and then again to go to the theatre in March, ahh well.

Need you are seriously impressive with your running, you are inspiring.

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/01/2018 21:08

Wolf Have you asked him? It doesn't need to be a surprise, my husband just wanted whisky.

North Gravy powder is oil free. Stuffing can be made easily but it's a pain having to do so.

Mammy I take coffee very seriously. Hated it for years then realised a lot of coffee is shite.

Wolfcub · 14/01/2018 21:12

I have asked Fluffy, he is being highly unhelpful. He knows we are skint so isn’t expecting much but I feel something special ought to mark the day

ememem84 · 14/01/2018 21:12

girlie I may have missed this but what show are you seeing?

fluffy it took me ages to find a coffee I like. Turns out it’s decaf.

Ds is in his cot. He was asleep when dh put him to bed and he forgot he was meant to go in the basket in the cot. He’s soundos so we’re not going to risk waking him. Fingers crossed.

I’m in our bed. Ds is in the other room. It’s freaking me out a little. But. I’m staying here. I have baby monitor. He will be fine. And we have to do this at some point and I can always go in there and sleep if I need to. Not if he needs me to. For me

Unescorted · 14/01/2018 21:16

If he does a bread making course I have a great sourdough starter - apparently from the famous (no I didn't realise that Hello magazine did profiles on food stuffs either) San Francisco one. I can send a part of it to you.

Unescorted · 14/01/2018 21:17

em enjoy the rest.

SnugglySnerd · 14/01/2018 21:17

Congratulations Nocuts!

MeadowHay · 14/01/2018 21:42

£100ish on 3 bras and a sports bra...(cries!) Got measured as a 28E except the lady said she didn't think they even sold that size hardly so had me try on a 30E and said that fitted fine. So bought 30Es. So that means I've gone up a cup size since I got pregnant - I could tell like, been falling out of my current ones hence the urgent trip to get fitted.
£10ish on tea & cake in the café with DH.
£2 on a Quorn cottage pie ready-meal thing for your dinner as we went to DM's and she said she had nothing veggie in for us to go with the taties and veg.
£18ish on 2 more bras & p&p but this time in a 28F as I found some on Boux Avenue. I've been fitted regularly since I was about 17 and always been told my back size is 30, so my mind is blown that I was actually just told that to increase the likelihood of me buying bras as I'm actually a bit heavier now than when I was 17/18 so I definitely can't have decreased my back size.
£3 on a Xmas jumper, I've wanted one for years. Will put it away for next year.

Spendy spendy Shock.

Nocuts Congratulations!

Em Hope you have a good sleep!

Laska and Wreck, I love the cats! Just been to my parents' and they have two lovely DSH's, one black and white and one black.

Mammy Mmm, I love tacos. Just Mexican food in general. I had a burrito for lunch yesterday and it was so good.
