Shall we have a sparkly new thread for February 🤓...?

Dentist!
Paid for my checkup but have to go back for a filling.
I need a new key holder for the front hall to stop the DCs from grabbing the car keys (they have developed an obsession with opening the car). Worked out I can make one with some powerful magnets (£1 on eBay) and something I already have.

PirateYellowbelly · 24/01/2018 22:31

Another NSD. Have spent considerably less money this month than budgeted as we are so used to doing top up shops and grabbing food and drink while out without thinking of the cost. Just gone through the spreadsheet for the next month and with no council tax or water to pay, along with re-budgeting, we will have some decent extra cash to spend on nicer things.

madamefraser · 24/01/2018 23:49

Budgeting for month ahead and feeling positive . Spent 50 p today . Feel I'm doing well ! I never ever buy new clothes ( always eBay etc ) but if I've saved enough by my birthday in the spring I'm going to treat myself to this !!!!....

See I always put away money in feb & March for the ctx and water bill to make it less pressured for the following year - I like to spread the load

Lovely 😊 dress

I pay my c.tax over 12 months. I know I miss out on my 2 months free, but it softens the blow a bit. I changed it online in a few mins.

PirateYellowbelly · 25/01/2018 06:59

I think if I changed the Direct Debits to pay all 12 months I wouldn't save as much money as the difference would get soaked away into other things. The money we have budgeted for council tax on Feb and March but don't need to spend will pay for our renewals of our Merlin passes.

ivykaty44 · 25/01/2018 07:47

But, but I have a fake account with ctx and electric DD going out of - I can use the swap method on this fake account and the bank gives me £100 or £150 for free, I just set up a standing order from my current account to pay in their required amount + the bills amount to cover their requirements for the free money- then a SO back to current account to put the “required” amount back

I need to do this again as NatWest are giving £100 and HSBC £150

What a gorgeous dress, madamefraser.

Payday! And the pet insurers paid out a very tidy sum so that has gone straight to my savings.

Still sticking to NSD as far as possible, but I did treat myself to some new nude tights today (wear them most days but only have 2 pairs left that I have been religiously hand washing several times a week :) )

madamefraser · 25/01/2018 11:55

That dress is but a dream but you never know ! Of course I have lots of other things I want need before I can have that....!!
I really feel positive though and feel I can curb my willynilly spending..
That bank swap idea is good, I'll look at that - though I think I'll find I get in a muddle with different bank accounts...

Littlechocola · 25/01/2018 14:08

Dentist and food shopping. I feel poor.

AdoraBell · 25/01/2018 14:32

Love the dress madamefraser

No wonder you feel poor after the dentist Littlechocola.

I’m due a check up, both DDs too.

Littlechocola · 25/01/2018 16:22

Luckily just a check up but that plus food was over £100. I did the grown up thing and treated myself to a bottle of wine Grin

Itis6oclocksomewhere · 25/01/2018 17:14

Just checked the thread for the first time in ages. A few NSD here and there for me, but not as many as I'd like! Everyone seems to be doing really well!
Big spend day today. Finally got round to doing that tax return. I knew it was coming and the money was put aside for it, but still a hefty chunk coming out of the bank!
Will definitely be needing a low spend February.

elvislives2012 · 25/01/2018 21:26

No NSD here, my daughter is poorly so had to take a second mortgage out to get stuff from the chemist for her. Feeling a bit overwhelmed and panicked as it's payday and everyone wants me to pay them! Hate this time of the month.
Yes please to a February thread, this has been so helpful

totallyLosingIt · 25/01/2018 21:53

Payday today so my no spend month is going to start tomorrow (hoping to go longer than just a month though). I am feeling quite excited about it, ridiculous as that sounds. I might mark each day on the calendar that I successfully have a NSD.

A brand spanking new February thread sounds like a nice free way to treat ourselves Halo

FaithEverPresent · 26/01/2018 13:20

Hooray it’s pay day! We finished the month £200 in credit. Normally we have to dip into savings to cover (my) spending so I definitely think that’s a win! I will Spend today buying steak for dinner and a joint for Sunday but I resisted the shops when I was out for an appointment so that’s good.

I’m definitely up for a February thread. DH is encouraging me to keep it up all year, unsurprisingly!

Littlechocola · 26/01/2018 17:14

Well done faith! I’ve not looked to see how much in credit I was yet. I had to move my rent day a few months back as I need it gone right from the start!

madamefraser · 26/01/2018 17:58

Wow well done Faith . I had to go into London today with daughter for Drs appointment so 32 for fare but probably can budget for it . 2.60 on a hot choc for me but I was cold !!!

totallyLosingIt · 26/01/2018 19:56

Day 1 for me and I didn't spend a penny. I want to put a sticker on the calendar as a sort of adult version of a reward chart for every NSD. But that would mean buying stickers so no can do 🤷🏼‍♀️

drspouse · 26/01/2018 20:00

Nick some air mall stickers from the post office?
I spent on bus fare to town, £1 on a toothbrush for DS, and £6 on fabric to make panty liners.

ivykaty44 · 26/01/2018 20:03

Totally losing it

Use an electronic calendar and use emojis 🌟 💫 ⭐️

Just the weekly food shop paid for today and didn't stray too far from the list. Changed my mind over tonight's dinner which ended up costing us more than intended but still less than if we had gone to the chippy!

Itis6oclocksomewhere · 26/01/2018 21:15

Today was going to be a NSD.
Then a pheasant and my car had a slight altercation and the result is a bust passenger side wing mirror.
Had to go out for an appointment so treated myself to coffee and a cake.
Wing mirrors are quite expensive apparently Confused

totallyLosingIt · 26/01/2018 21:51

I've nicked a sheet of My Little Pony stickers from my daughter's stash and have put one (a random letter) on today's date on the calendar Halo
