Popping in to say 'Hi'. It's been a busy week for us as we had DD's shows on top of work. I spent €6.50 on coffees and a flapjack on Thursday night, as I went to the concert straight from work. We also got stung for €5 for raffle tickets.

It's a horrible day here. Storm Brian has arrived and it's very windy and rainy.

em I found the newborn weeks to be very intense. Your whole focus is on the baby and whether he/she needs feeding/changing/burping etc. DH was a great Dad and did his fair share of feeding and nappy changing. But I was the one who was alone with the baby all day during the week and it was a bit all-consuming. I'd no problem with caring for DD physically - changing nappies and feeding her and washing baby clothes etc. But trying to figure out why she was crying was a bit of a head wrecker. Add sleep deprivation and hormones into the mix and it's all a bit of a recipe for disaster. I had a little meltdown every so often and had a good cry. I should have joined the local parent toddler group but the weeks just flew by and before I knew it, I was back at work. I got 18 weeks maternity leave and topped it up with a few weeks of Annual Leave. Although I enjoyed the baby cuddles, I can't say I really enjoyed the baby stage. I much prefer it when they can communicate with you. Although of course, now that DD is so much older, I occasionally get a little bit nostalgic and wish I could go back to that baby stage (without the crying, obviously!) just for a few hours. I think a bit of time to yourself is vital so enjoy the pampering today. It will get easier, I promise. And I agree with Grumpy about babies being tiny tyrants.

mammy I'm laughing at the idea of your DS swinging his nappy around his head like an enthusiastic competitor on Strictly. Not a nice mess for you to clean up though.

Seacow I'm sorry to hear about parents evening.. Hope you feel a little better today. Sending you some Flowers, Cake and a Brew.

Off to put the kettle on for another cuppa. We're a bit slow to get going today. We're all tired after the late nights. DH is still in bed (he's awake though) which is pretty much unheard of. He's usually up and about early.

I’ve spent a little bit on amazon today on Christmas presents and ds’ new waterproof suit. I noticed one of the things is cheaper at the entertainer but they only do free click and collect over £10 and this is £5. Will see if I can pop in and they have in stock.

Em Can you use karvol on his bedding? It must be awful to be snuffly like that.

Need will be back, she's told me previously her email on mn is out of date so she won't get any pm alerts.

I'm making pumpkin soup. I'll process the rest of it when I've tried the soup.

Getting all the washing out while it's windy.

WreckTangled · 21/10/2017 12:48

Em are you sure it’s not coming from his wind pipe? Dd had a floppy larynx and sounded like darth* Vader over night. She grew out of it.*

LillyLollyLandy · 21/10/2017 13:02

Hi everyone, it’s a bit of a windy day here in London! DS and DH have gone to swimming lessons, DD1 is busy being antisocial and hiding in her room playing games on her kindle. DDog is asleep on the rug at my feet and DD2 is having a mega nap in the bugaboo beside me. She’s come out in a bit of a rash which I am praying isn’t chicken pox, as I’m just back at work and really can’t afford to take time off already (DH is working away in the week at the moment so cannot help). DS hasn’t had it either so it’s a potential disaster brewing!

Cag this is it! Last day as family of 4! Be kind to yourself today, you’ll likely be having a whole rollercoaster of emotions at the thought of what’s ahead. DD2 was induced and I sobbed the whole way to Hospital because I was so excited and so nervous at the same time. Take it very very easy today!

Em what a gorgeous wee boy! DD2 was a bit snuffly at first too and what I used to do was rub snufflebabe onto my chest up towards my collarbone, so that she would get some of the vapours when she was feeding. That worked pretty well. I’m v impressed with you standing your ground with DH and making him pull his weight - it’s so easy for mums to fall into the trap of doing it all themselves.

Seacow I don’t have any experience of autism myself but I wanted to say what a lucky little boy your DS is to have a mum like you fighting his corner. He will always be okay because he’s got you. It must be exhausting and I’m in awe of how you manage to balance your DS’s needs with your DD’s. I’m also incredibly jealous of your new dishwasher Envy

Hope everyone else is doing ok. Mammy I’m copying you and having a day indoors even though it’s actually quite dry and sunny here. The wind is putting me off going outside but it’s my turn to walk the dog later so will venture out.

Today I’ve been v frugal and made a huge pot of soup with all the slightly soft veg in the fridge, instead of letting it turn to mush and then binning it. Will be interesting to see if the kids deign to eat it or not - they’re going through an incredibly fussy phase and driving me bonkers.

Top 5 frugal tips from me:

  1. Meal plan - this has been the best way to keep on top of our grocery budget.
  1. YNAB - love it.
  1. Use cashback sites - I don’t buy anything online before checking if I can get cashback. I tend to use quidco but have heard good things about topcashback.
  1. Wear slippers and jumpers in the house instead of just whacking on the heating. If your hands and feet are warm then you’ll be just fine.
  1. The thing that always saves me a fortune is taking a packed lunch and hot drink in a flask to work. I’m terrible for buying tea at £2 a go at the station in the morning, have stopped that now. I was getting through £10 a day just on tea and lunch!!! Ridiculous.
LillyLollyLandy · 21/10/2017 13:04

Wreck good point about the floppy larynx. DD1 had this. I took her to the GP and he confirmed it. Can’t remember what he said to do but she grew out of it as you said, so em maybe ask the Health visitor for advice?

WreckTangled · 21/10/2017 13:07

Lilly have you considered the chicken pox vaccine? Not for everyone obviously but might be worth looking into

Cagliostro · 21/10/2017 13:07

We are nearly at the end of the thread already!!!

I had a loooong laze in bed and a very short doze. Think I'm having mild Braxton Hicks which is a novelty as never had them with the others!

Need some lunch, jacket spud with heaps of awesome cottage cheese YUM

DH had an interesting morning. He went to the pet shop next to DD's dancing club and found out they refer to him as 'hedgehog man' because he is literally the only person who buys their hedgehog food (which makes you wonder why they kept stocking it beforehand but oh well) :o

And he ended up chasing an injured pheasant round the co-op because the staff were too scared :o

Cagliostro · 21/10/2017 13:13

Crikey I suppose it is the last day just us isn't it. Gosh!

I am ok mood wise at the moment. Panicking about the birth (this is the problem with the internet - I am sooo much more aware now about what can go wrong!) but hopefully when the contractions start my instincts will take over! Will have a nice long hot bath tonight after making sure everything is ready :) and make sure I have loads of extra cuddles with my Caglets as it might be a day or two before I see them.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 21/10/2017 13:24

Cag I can't believe your little dd is going to be here so soon! So exciting.

Em if I'm honest I hated the newborn days, I found it physically, mentally and emotionally draining and thankless, once we got past the first 12 weeks things began to feel a bit easier. Your little boy is adorable, he is like you?

Hope Need is okay.

We are back from dds riding lesson, she had a really good lesson which involved some cantering which she loved! Hanging out at home for a bit now as we are heading up to Bristol this afternoon to watch War Horse, my mum bought the tickets yonks ago and its finally come round. Hoping the weather settles a bit..... Hmm

WreckTangled · 21/10/2017 13:34

Girlie my sister just messaged me to say they’re in Bristol but are leaving now before the storm gets worse Blush

Cagliostro · 21/10/2017 13:35

Oh no be careful girlie

LillyLollyLandy · 21/10/2017 13:36

Wreck she’s only 9 Months. I think they have to be 1 before they can have the chicken ok vaccine, is that right?

WreckTangled · 21/10/2017 13:38

Yes I think you’re right

LonelyOversharer · 21/10/2017 13:44

Joining in with a do nothing day. So far unblocked the kitchen sink, done 2 bowls of washing up (the non dishwasher stuff piles up until I do it), and made sarnies for the dc.

Very windy here, guessing it's the leading edge of Brian. Still got the outside pets to sort, and might peg some laundry out.

Always love your cat wreck ! Are babies born into houses with cats and dogs ever allergic from birth? I've never heard of it, or thought about it really!

Oh, and need to put a spag bol sauce into the slow cooker for tea.

cag if your braxton hicksing and feeling iccy, maybe dd2 (!) Is getting on board with the idea of putting in an appearance tomorrow !

Cagliostro · 21/10/2017 13:57

Here's hoping :o anything that helps it all go smoothly would be a massive bonus. I have no idea what a natural spontaneous labour feels like (even waters breaking - with DD there was virtually nothing as induced due to oligohydramnios, and DS they did it manually with a hook thingy.

I should probably practice with the TENS machine! And ooooh gas and air... good stuff, looking forward to that 😂

MeadowHay · 21/10/2017 14:08

Well went out to go to the vintage fair, and turns out I done a silly and it's tomorrow Grin. Woops. So back home we came and I did a bit of a retching outside the block as my nausea is back with a vengeance. Not sure if morning sickness or antidepressant withdrawal though as I have officially started the long and gradual process of weaning myself off them yesterday in case if I stay on them they harm the baby. I always get bad nausea when I miss a tablet or whatever by accident, took half my usual dose last night so it could be that. Bleurgh.

Wreck That kitty pic is so cute!

Cag Good luck Flowers

People who said about SMP, sat down with DH last night and if I stay in this job then yeah I will be entitled to it, I was originally thinking about moving jobs after my probation though if I could get better pay elsewhere but then I would only be entitled to MA which is the same except for the first 6 weeks of SMP I would get 90% of my earnings which is significantly higher than the MA of only like £140ish a week. So if I moved jobs I would lose a fair amount of money but then if I got a job with better pay I might be able to make that up better when I went back from mat leave so...I guess I will just see how I go at present anyway as it's so long away.

mammymammyIRL · 21/10/2017 14:08

Tayto I may have got cross with him Blush I did apologise but only after sending him to his room to calm down & so I could too.

Lilly are you new or a name changer?
Sorry but I've not been keeping up well lately.

Just did an economics lesson with dc they made puff pastry apple slices so I explained the cost of pastry sugar & butter used added up to €2, the apples were our own & the 12 slices would retail at €1 each Grin

mammymammyIRL · 21/10/2017 14:11

Now they want to use bread maker to make bread to save even more money Grin and ds spotted it two weeks ago when we got new microwave & wanted to know what it was Shock

Ah meadow you get to rest up for birthday party at least

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 21/10/2017 14:44

Oh God Wreck!! Its calmed down here a fair bit....

Laska5772 · 21/10/2017 14:55

Blowing an absolute hooley here on the west Wight.. we were due to go over to mainlabd today bu t cancelled in case ferries stopped and we couldnt get back. So unexpected quiet day. Been down to shop its actually rather warm out
.. Dh and i house blitzing and cooking nice curry later Smile. I may go down in a bit to watch crashing waves

Pinkpeppermintteaforme · 21/10/2017 15:21

Am I the only one who found YNAB baffling ?
Couldnt figure it out for love nor money Grin
I just save for specifics, long term and short term and all shopping and personal spends is set amount in cash .

Fluffycloudland77 · 21/10/2017 15:31

I've asked for this for Christmas www.argos.co.uk/product/5261992

Apparently you're not meant to ask Hmm but how would he know otherwise? 🙄🙄🙄

I've sent a email link so there can be no ambiguity.

NSD.
