need love wedges with ankle straps! I have revolting hobbit feet so get closed toe ones though. Can't do silettoes, totter totter crash.

Super tea of salmon with pasta and pesto. Why is the simplist of food the tastiest?

fluffy giggled at the you tube hack. We are a bit like that. Dp was soldering something last night, no idea what, but I'm guessing it's not broken anymore.

SunnyLikeThursday · 20/05/2017 18:32

We had a good day out at a big science fair today. Ds had a great time at all the stalls, looking into microscopes, and building greenfly, and dressing up as a bee.

I dropped ds and dh and then too the car home and cycled back to avoid parking trouble and now my legs feel properly exercised.

ememem84 · 20/05/2017 18:33

need ooooh those wedges are fab!!!! Love a wedge.

Cagliostro · 20/05/2017 18:38

Amazing quilt!

Laska5772 · 20/05/2017 18:40

Oh its ok....... they are not really being rude as such, its just their way and how they always have been with me ..... its a misguided way of feeling they are doing their best for me. by pointing this stuff out ...I know they do love me, but they are really parents who were not really well parented themselves and probably would have been better not having any kids.. (think, Larkin.. 'They Fk you up your mum and dad...) .It also stems from me being a (brainy - a bit too brainy for them) fat child in the days when being a pretty girl was everything.. ..

Ho hum , I should be used to it by now... .. I shouldnt allow it to get to me but sometimes i do .. .. They do enjoy coming and I like seeing them.. They are too old to change now... Parents .. ah well, ...theyve gone now,, I may have a Gin

NEED!.. what can i say .? .. um that I have a Boden dress on the way?

girlie isnt your house shared ownership? if so it should be a different thing to the leaseholds being sold inthe gaurdian article ..

Wow Lovely Quilt!! lonley

allthebestplease · 20/05/2017 18:52

need can you advise on whether it's possible and aesthetically pleasing to spray paint furniture so that it has a high gloss look? Or is this way off your field.

HollyTheHarrier · 20/05/2017 19:07

Amazing quilt lonely. I'd like to get back into sewing, I used to enjoy it when I was younger. Why are there so few hours in the day?!

girlie most leaseholds are perfectly fine so don't panic

I've had an expensive day. Parkrun this morning (and ran there and back so 15km in total). Then hairdresser (£32) for a trim, then back home and my parents came to visit and took me for lunch (they paid 😊). Since getting home I've been online shopping and spent £66 on a bikini and flip flops, and another £60 on three new pairs of shoes, but will probably send some of them back. All stuff that I kind of need so doesn't count as frittering, but still expensive! Tomorrow I'm planning a long bike ride and might buy lunch on the go.

Loveabaconsandwich · 20/05/2017 19:18

£1 milk
£14 in Homebase on slate chips for the garden

The plan was to mow and weed the front garden and put down the chips to stop the weeds growing back. But then it poured with rain so that never happened.

laska Gin or Wine sound well deserved after that

Envious of all the shoe shopping going on. In theory I love high heals but as they are impractical for work/commuting, school runs and we never go out, I just have no need for them Sad . I could do with a pair of practical work shoes but just don't want to buy them!

MeadowHay · 20/05/2017 19:24

Hi everyone.

Laska Sorry you had to go through that earlier Brew.

Sunny The science fair sounds really cool!

Lonely Loving the quilt!

I have read back but I can never remember anything Confused. Sorry Blush.

We are having a spendy day too although DH has been paying for it all...his bus fare to and from town, chips for lunch in town, a few essentials from the Tesco, and we have ordered Indian takeaway for dinner Blush. Woops. But I'm too exhausted to cook and he is tired too as we both spent the afternoon volunteering with the refugee children and he really wanted a takeaway.

I'm hoping tomorrow will be an NSD as will probs just stay home and revise.

lifelongfrugaleer · 20/05/2017 19:32

Love the quilt.
Those wedge's are fab. What size shoe are you need.......?
I've got some asda bikinis in my basket but can't remember what size bottoms I got last year. I'm either going to order 2 or chance the smaller one and make sure I go back to the gym. They do an f cup.

Loveabaconsandwich · 20/05/2017 19:58

DD2 will not go to bed for me. I'm now hiding in my bedroom finishing off some chocolate and left her with DP downstairs Blush. DP did make the mistake of saying we should watch a film or something tonight once DC were on bed in her earshot, so it's his fault Hmm

Coppersulphate · 20/05/2017 20:02

Oh Need, glad you are coping well with DH. Bipolar is so hard on everyone. DDs' best friend is bipolar and it is so hard on all his family. It's a real, struggle. Good that you have your running to help you cope.
Laska, sorry your DM is so unfeeling. Ignore if possible.
It seems everyone is having a challenging time...even Em's catface is being chased!😿😿
Worked all day today and tomorrow. Will be paid. Need the money for greenhouse and mega holiday.
NSD

CremeEggThief · 20/05/2017 20:04

Lonely, I can't see your photo of the quilt, but it sounds amazing. I love the comfort of a heavy, warm quilt. Even in summer, I need the weight of 7.5 tog; my 4.5 is too light for me in anything under 30°! I completely agree with the simplest food being the best too.

Spendy, spendy day. But if you can't splash out a bit from your first wages in a new job, when can you?

Spends:
£8 travel.
£25.05 Ikea, on my card (a new rug; a sage green roaster and 2 sage green bowls, to replace a couple that had broken; 2 wooden spoons; an ice cube tray; 3 picture frames, in different sizes; an apple and pear scented candle and a small reusable bag).
£6.65 on lunch in Ikea. 10 veggie meatballs mixed with grilled veg and grains, which was actually really tasty, and a slice of Swedish apple cake and a latte.
£8.29 in The Range.
£19.20 Primark (grey trousers, a nightie, 2 pairs of canvas shoes espadrilles for summer and a Naked bar, as an emergency snack in my bag).
£14.20, on my card, in the Co-op, on pizza, Wine, eggs, salad, brownies and loo roll.

I dread to add it all up!Wink

Coppersulphate · 20/05/2017 20:08

Lonely that quilt is fab. Can I ask where you get you fat quarters? I've only seen them in Liberty's and they were too expensive for me.

WreckTangled · 20/05/2017 20:09

Love the quilt! I also can't sleep without something on me. I have a nice feather duvet but even if I'm napping on the sofa I need a nice thick blanket Grin

I'm going to fold some washing. Just had a Mars ice cream.

£9 macdonalds
£67 food shopping

Meal plan:

Tonight was pizza with crudites and humous

In no particular order yet...

Spag Bol
Cottage pie
Fish cakes and mash
Sausage and med veg tray bake
Quiche and new potatoes and salad
Butter chicken with popadoms

lifelongfrugaleer · 20/05/2017 20:23

New job creme? Did I miss something. Is it one of the permenant one you were thinking about ages ago. Didn't realise you had got one. Well done.

CremeEggThief · 20/05/2017 20:28

Not that exciting, Life. I'm teaching Y1/2 every afternoon for a term, so it's a long-term supply. I started after the Easter holidays and anticipate being there until we break up in July, although it might be a couple of weeks before that. That's why I've been quiet on here.

lifelongfrugaleer · 20/05/2017 20:33

Still good though to have the regular work for a couple of months.

WreckTangled · 20/05/2017 20:39

I thought I'd missed something too Creme. That means you're teaching my dd's class (also split).

It's really weird because all the school letters said sats were next week and they haven't even mentioned it in the weekly news letter but dd said they had them this week. I'm so confused. She said the maths was quite hard and she left a few questions but she probably got all the spelling test right. Grin she's an awesome speller but just cannot get her head around numbers.

Cagliostro · 20/05/2017 20:52

Trying to pay summer invoices for a couple of clubs but bank website won't let me. It's saying company names can be no more than 18 characters long. It's hardly my fault if their names are longer is it? Hmm Baffling. Will try on phone app when it's charged as that has been easier in the past.

I've just ordered the first pregnancy-related things. Scary! Shock £28, Maternity swimsuit and the Davina McCall pre/post-natal workout DVD for nostalgia's sake :o

Now that we have more money coming in each month (and less going out) do you think it's better to pay more off the credit card? We will already be making it reduce faster - because it's now been transferred to a 0%, £100 will come off the balance rather than half of it being wasted on interest Blush. It's payable like that within the 0% time frame but would still be worth getting it done quicker right? DH is happy to stick with £100 but I'd like to increase it a bit really.

lifelongfrugaleer · 20/05/2017 20:55

Wreck our year 2 are doing them over a couple of weeks. We have 1 more next week.

Cag, keep paying the £100 but put the balance in a separate account?

MeadowHay · 20/05/2017 21:01

Cag As long as you get it paid off before the 0% phase ends, then in theory it doesn't matter whether you pay it off quicker or not BUT perhaps if you do pay it off quicker you will be less likely to fritter away money and then suddenly get to near the end of the 0% period and realised you haven't paid it off or something? I don't know, just a thought, but in theory it doesn't really matter when you pay as long as you're not paying interest on it.

I also enjoy a thick/heavy duvet on me, but I also get really hot and stuffy at night as my medication often gives me horrendous night sweats too. You've reminded me I need to add 'summer duvet' to my shopping list. Been sweltering under our big-ish one when it's been warmer.

Revising Land Law is soooo boring.

Creme What's it like being a primary teacher? Sometimes I think I might like it and then other times I don't think I would have the patience/resilience and I've heard teaching is getting really bad in terms of workload pressures and stuff recently? A fella at our event today asked if I was a teacher and I said no and he said I'd be a good teacher which made me do this silly face Grin hehe. There aren't any bursaries for primary teaching either though.

WreckTangled · 20/05/2017 21:08

I get awful night sweats sometimes too! I'm not sure if it's due to medication or one of the various things I have wrong with me. Either way it's gross Blush

Laska5772 · 20/05/2017 21:13

cag when i started on here and had credit card debt it was always on 0% but it never seemed to go away and was making me anxious..Once i started budgeting i wanted to pay it off asap because i knew it would make me feel more in control.. so i decided to make it my priority.. it took me some time but felt so great when it had gone..
I do still use my credit card but now never more than I can pay each month.. it does feel pretty good.. and I think I am much more selective on what shoes and clothes I spend it on
( just my experience FWIW)

CremeEggThief · 20/05/2017 21:31

Honestly, Meadow, I wouldn't recommend it. The curriculum is very narrow with a lot of pressure on the kids from a very young age.Sad The workload is tremendous. Nothing is ever good enough for the powers that be. And with the cuts to the education budget, things will get even worse than they already are. In a nutshell, teachers have been suffering more every year since the Tories got in. There is no way I would teach full-time again and I base that on 13 months full-time, which ended in February 2011.

I'm "just" doing the foundation subjects, so no English and Maths. to plan and mark, and I'm working 11 or 12 until 5.30 in school Monday to Thursday, 4-4.30 on Fridays, and either a few hours both days at the weekend or a full day and the LEA pay me for 1-3.15 5 days a week. So I get paid for 11.25 hours but I'm working at least triple that and that's only afternoons. It would be double that, probably slightly more, if I was doing the mornings too.
