Will join you on the lunch challenge geek. Although I work part time so will be easier. Although I'm very bad at doing frugal work lunches so I think I'll still struggle to keep to £25

mammymammyIRL · 01/03/2017 07:17

Geek great idea for a challenge, I think I'm under that anyhow. All meals for 3 adults & 2 children for €150 weekly.
Lunches tend to be leftovers or homemade brown bread with salad or a toastie. Today is two pancakes one filled with feta spinach & Sundried tomatoes and other cheddar spinach & Sundried tomato. Snacks are a chopped apple and yogurt from a big pot at home (89c for 500g vs 44c for 125g pot, still buy small pots for dc) and 2 mandarins.
Tupperware is your friend when it comes to cheap lunchesSmile

Thanks for new thread. Here are some pictures of bread from bread maker. One is totally wholemeal the other white. I've made a 50/50 and liked that the most, but don't have an image.

What's your recipe please best?
For the 50/50 & wholemeal?
My bread maker lives behind the microwave never used. Dh bought it on a whim, he's never used it himself. Every time it came up in Aldi he made noise about buying one & I put him off, until eventually he bought one.

IdStillRatherBeKnitting · 01/03/2017 08:02

email is here. Dd2 got her place!

CremeEggThief · 01/03/2017 08:05

Good news, KnittingSmile.

Ipsomatic · 01/03/2017 08:23

Fantastic news Knitting.

SnugglySnerd · 01/03/2017 08:32

Great news, Knitting!

Think we need to buy milk and toothpaste today and perhaps bananas.

Aiming for as quiet a day as possible, I'm very tired. No hospital today though - hooray!

IdStillRatherBeKnitting · 01/03/2017 08:47

Tired is allowed suggly you're just about to have 2 babies! Make tea/coffee. Sit down in comfiest chair. Watch drivel on telly/internet. Done. You know things will be very different next week! I can't imagine the squash and squeeze going on inside you, I found one baby excruciating at the end. Have you carried full term? No knowledge really, but is twins 38 weeks?? StarStar At least you haven't got the hidoeus guess work, and then go 2 weeks overdue!

We got up at 0758 Blush apparently dd2 woke dp up at 0715, and its all his fault (she is so ready for secondary school)! I packed them off on time, after frantic lunch making/sock/clarinet finding. I'm going to put the chicken casserole on and follow dp in when I've watched Jeremy Kyle and had the rare quiet bath Have good frugal days everyone. Will do my feb figures later.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 01/03/2017 09:31

Dd also got her place Smile very relieved, didn't realise how stressed i was about it until I got the email!! Still can't get my head round the fact that I will have a secondary aged child though Shock have had two people give me bags of uniform and sports stuff for the secondary school so that is a frugal win.

Last couple of hrs of annual leave this morning, have training this afternoon.

Need to get petrol but in theory no other spends...

My dads dog has terrible wind Blush he stinks!!

Tryingtosaveup · 01/03/2017 10:28

Well done Girlie and Knitting. Great relief I bet.
Cag, re cc.....whatever you do never, ever spend on the card you have balance transferred to. A high interest rate will kick in immediately and you will lose the 0%. Cut it up as soon as you have transferred to it.

Ipsomatic · 01/03/2017 10:50

I'm sitting in the garden trying to cook out the remains of my flu vaccine side effects. The weather is lovely and I'm not spending any money out there. :-)

My robot hoover is doing the housework for me. Smile Fluffy how is yours going?

Bluefluff · 01/03/2017 10:52

Nsd today hopefully! Have tonsillitis and feel awful so not venturing out.

Great to hear that your school places were accepted Smile

AdoraBell · 01/03/2017 11:05

😁 knitting and Girlie

Sainbo's sent a mango so far passed ripe it's inedible Hmm I'll call them in a mo.

Fluffycloudland77 · 01/03/2017 11:28

Thank you wreck.

ipsos Sebastian keeps getting stuck under the worktops because the kickboards are off. I make sure I'm around when he's working. I love Sebastian very much.

PeoniesforMissAnnersley · 01/03/2017 11:38

Found a frugal tip - lend DH your bank card and then when he keeps not putting it back, you won't be able to spend money Hmm
He took it Sunday to buy wine and keeps not returning it, I've been so busy at work I haven't had time to go through his bag and get it.
Not a creepy financial bully btw just super absent minded.
Have a scary meeting today at work, can't say much about it as it involves a colleague but I am very nervous.

SnugglySnerd · 01/03/2017 11:45

A friend and I did that once at uni, Peonie, we were both getting overdrawn and a bit stresses so we looked after each others' bank cards for a bit. We had to ask each other if we wanted to use them which was such a hassle it meant we only bought stuff we really needed!

Pleased for those getting school places.

Knitting I am quite uncomfortable, mainly because my feet are so swollen. I can't get any socks on and am wearing DH's slippers! Yes I'll be almost 38 wks when they are born unless they decide to come early.

Wreck I've just added Sebastian to my boys' name list, I like it!

Owe my mum loads of money for odd bits of shopping she's done for us. I thought our bank balance was looking healthy!

ememem84 · 01/03/2017 12:21

Awesome news re schools guys.

It took me over an hour to get to work today. Sigh.

Today's frugal lunch - leftover jacket potato with cheese and spring onion. Could do with either some salad creme or Mayo or something. But I don't have that here.

The Mighty Frugaleers Meticulously March into March
mammymammyIRL · 01/03/2017 13:00

em I've a bottle of mayo in our fridge at work, I'll pass it over, another colleague has sweet chilli sauce and then we all have shared milk/spread/salt/tea/coffee

I've to drop in documents to branch to get certified for an application for a credit card balance transfer. I work full time, they just do appointment only Sat morn and can't accept any other way so I'll have to make them off on Saturday.

Finally got my next bill from eMobile and then can't transfer my refund to it, but weren't planning on putting it into my bank account either only I chased it! It's €131.49 - I've signed up for a free trial bootcamp which costs €200 I think upfront and if you attend all 20 classes you get €100 back. I'll put the refund which will take 5 working days to come towards that

IdStillRatherBeKnitting · 01/03/2017 13:41

Oh crap. March is not going to be a cheap month. My little car has failed its mot, needs brake pads and discs, and a few other bits. Arse. I pay for this car, dp sorts out the big one (was £600 in the end), but I had neatly forgotten about the bloody mot being due.

Spent £10 in m&s on lunch (wierd healthy bean salad, and cookies) so not a frugal start. And £6 on felt and foam sheets in hobbycraft to fashion some pirate gear for tomorrow. Dd2 won't dress up (she gave me such a look when I suggested it), dd3 wants just a skull & crossbones temporarily tacked onto her fave jumper, and ds is a dressing up refuser, so will make him a hat, which he can carry in. He will like the plastic cutlass! And had to top up dd1's lunch card (she texted from school at lunch) so another £40 down. Yay.

mammymammyIRL · 01/03/2017 14:21

knitting that lunch sounds like a contradiction - healthy salad with cookies!

I'm a non practicing Roman Catholic who adheres to certain traditions of the church. Today is Ash Wednesday and it's traditional to abstain from meat. This slipped my mind completely but I've inadvertently adhered to it anyhow. Poached egg on brown bread for breakfast, apple & yogurt for snack at 10, and spinach, cheese and sundried tomato pancakes for lunch. Dinner was going to be something else but I'll pick up fish on my way home this evening.

MeadowHay · 01/03/2017 14:22

NSD today I think. Parents nagging me to go shopping to buy a posh suit as I have been selected to go on a really posh legal lunch event at uni on Friday. The only smart outfit I own is a dark smart dress from Dorothy Perkins, a black Zara blazer, and my work shoes which are black patent brogues from Clarks. They seem to think this isn't posh enough for the event but it just seems insane to me to spend £400 on a suit (was looking on Reiss website Shock ) regardless of whether they're offering to pay or not. Plus there's the thing about me actually being able to get into city centre in the first place which is looking slim as I'm anxious and so exhausted.

DWP agreed to do an actual mandatory reconsideration of my PIP claim - DH finally got through to someone decent who admitted they had cocked up. They called him today again to confirm they've sent out forms for me to fill in and will give me a few weeks to send it back with supporting evidence so that's at least some of the stress lifted even if only temporarily (don't have my hopes up). Going to get the welfare rights charity to help us with the mandatory reconsideration process though it will cost us £50.

Didn't have pancakes as didn't get home from work yesterday evening until 9pm and was exhausted, just had toast and read and went to bed.

mammymammyIRL · 01/03/2017 14:30

meadow could you get a suit in somewhere like Next? Then you're not refusing the offer by your parents but not wasting money either?

snuggly my feet were massive in last few weeks of pregnancy with dd and it never happened with ds!

Ipsomatic · 01/03/2017 14:48

Fluffy That's an excellent name for a robot vacuum cleaner. :-) I love mine too.

Needastrongone · 01/03/2017 15:46

Meadow Would you feel comfortable, and therefore less anxious in the Dorothy Perkins dress? This is your choice, even if your parents are well meaning and kind.

Bread looks lovely All.

Brill news Knitting and Girlie. I remember the stress of that time, we had applied for an out of catchment school and I was shaking when I got the email as no one had got in for 6 years from our village. Ilike that bean salad Knitting, from M&S Smile

Mammy I do a weekly Boot Camp class with DD. It's bloody hard work, but great fun. I did that and ran 7 miles yesterday. 10 tonight.

£7 car wash.
£3 to DS for vending machine for common room.
£2 tonight for a drink in a meeting. Running the 3 peaks in May.
