We just received a handsome 4 figure sum due to the surveyor making a big costly mistake. Yay! That's a big worry off my worry list Halloween Smile

AdoraBell · 24/10/2016 17:27

😂Collie

CremeEggThief · 24/10/2016 17:44

Oh that's great, Collie. It came through quite quickly too, didn't it?

Fab pumpkins, Wreck.

NSD. Sainsburys order came earlier, so that will be £44.90, but it'll come out tomorrow.

NeversellahouseCollie · 24/10/2016 18:11

It wasn't like compensation. It was a mix between smallish survey refunds and value added back to the house :) but it's a big relief

NeversellahouseCollie · 24/10/2016 18:11

Sorry if I worded it wrong earlier Blush

AGenie · 24/10/2016 18:29

Not frugal related really, but I've had some RL social successes recently due to the frugaleers.

In the past I used to look around a group and find some who looked like me to talk to. Recently though I've started looking at people and thinking "Well that person is nothing like me, but might be a bit like X from the frugaleers, who is very nice". I then go and talk to them and find they are perfectly nice, which is great.

Ds, dh and I even went to a church lunch yesterday, and when people asked why I wasn't eating I just told them that my eating bits were knackered, and that I'd had lunch before I came. Several people at the table told me that they had epic hereditary ailments too, and then we got on and had a jolly time. It was a bit of a success all round really. Ultra frugal lunch, being free.

Ds really enjoyed his lunch and ended up serving the drinks, which he really enjoyed.

We went for ds's MenB vacc today but he had a cold and temperature so we were cancelled and went to a NT place instead. Beautiful sunny day.

Well done Collie

and well done electric on your cat doing so well. Sounds wonderful.

That's good news collie.
Nice pumpkins
Check you out genie, pleased we are living up to our frugaleer personalities Grin

£112 ahem on a Barbour Mac. I have covered a Mac for ages and it's from t the factory shop so cheaper. The winter Parker I want which is £249 or £279 was still full price so I tried on and put back.
£10 on lunch, got carpet fitter coming to measure next week.

Shesgotelectricboobs · 24/10/2016 18:44

life barbours are great. Mine is about 8 years old and has just got to that worn in stage. They will repair and replace for life.

I saw the Parker too. Want. But can't justify it. I do need a coat. But I want a smart black wool pea coat for work.

dh is upset. We have to talk about mils bf. Dh said the words "he's everything your father isnt" were uttered. will that woman never learn

Work -done
Gym- done
Cat fed - done (with lots of meowing and purring)
Washing out out to dry and new load on
Breakfast time washing up done lazy bums

Dh is making spicy butternut pasta. Yum. I'm having a wine. Smile feeling very decadent for a Monday.

lifelongfrugaleer · 24/10/2016 18:58

Nice link mammy
I know boobs it will be an investment I just can bear to pay full price when I know some shops will have it in their spectaculars. Also the forecast next week doesn't warrent a fur lined coat

WreckTangled · 24/10/2016 19:03

So true mammy!

Before my dad remarried it was just him, my two sisters and me. We all had matching barbers.

Great news collie!

That sounds lovely genie Smile

AdoraBell · 24/10/2016 19:08

Yes, Barbours are fantastic coats but I still want a Burberry

Shesgotelectricboobs · 24/10/2016 19:14

I have a vintage (1975) Burberry trench. It was my mums

lifelongfrugaleer · 24/10/2016 19:16

I'm going to ask for house of Fraser vouchers for Christmas and carry on saving my £2 coins.

16 degrees with 18 for a bath time boost. We fully insulated our 70s house ten years ago and it was so with it. The stair are on an East facing external wall, also where the thermostat is, so that's the coldest room which we need to do something about but it's ample warm enough for the rest of the house

lifelongfrugaleer · 24/10/2016 19:18

I'm after the Caribbean or the flywheel in navy

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 24/10/2016 19:21

My thermostat is set to 22, I hate being cold! Its been around 21 all day but thats because the downstairs heating isn't working, I would have it a lot warmer if it was!! My little oil filled radiator is doing well at keeping us warm though, tried calling the boiler people but they kept me on hold for agggggges and I lost the will. Will try again tomos.

Collie yay!!

genie that sounds like progress, well done.

ItalianWiking84 · 24/10/2016 19:32

Wreck: fluffy pumpkins, super cute and
Collie: Well done with the compensation Smile
Keep: we can't have like one temp in the whole house but set each rediator, think avarge temp is around 22ish. But we have also already had minus degrees in the night so defn getting colder.

NeversellahouseCollie · 24/10/2016 19:45

Thanks everyone :)

girlie is it Ideal Boilers?

Our thermostat is at 18 but it's too damn cold. So I whack it up to 21c in the living room and keep the rest of the house at 18. Today has been so cold! My Grandmother used to say I'm a chilly mortal. Im always chilly! I need some sexy long johns.

Although I am well aware that my house will probably be the warmest house I ever live in.

Cagliostro · 24/10/2016 20:01

Looks like that gift card offer is still on - found it again and just put £100 in my amazon account, so now have £105. Need to get bedding for the Caglets soon and a few other household bits.

Trying to do a bit of decluttering today, slow going though.

Fluffycloudland77 · 24/10/2016 20:08

22c but a draughty house will take more to heat. I switch the heating off and on in 20 minute cycles.

CremeEggThief · 24/10/2016 20:16

Mine is set to 18°, but I'll set it to 21° in the colder months. I have my heating on for 90 minutes, off for an hour, and then another 90 minutes. Just on for an hour in the middle and 3 at night at the moment, but I will need it for 6 or 7 hours a day in December- February, probably. I hope I'll have my warm home discount applied by then.

Shesgotelectricboobs · 24/10/2016 20:24

Watching addicted to spending on c4. Interesting stuff.

Have also just applied for an m&s credit card - dh thinks for us it's the best card option.

genie sounds like you're making good progress.

Needastrongone · 24/10/2016 20:52

Sometimes it's good to buy an investment piece. Dividing the cost over the years of use is a good way of looking at it sometimes. Also there's a resale value.

Girlie Is the boiler under 2 years old? Ours was covered by a 2 year warranty. Worth phoning Ideal for sure. Sometimes, British Gas will come out for a one off fee to include all labour and parts. Also, utterly ridiculous, but once, the batteries in our timer had gone, and that was the only thing wrong, check the wall thermostat for this!

Well done Genie, great start for you and the family. I honestly think getting out and about and speaking to folk, even when it's the thing we least want to do sometimes can lift our mood immensely.

Our thermostat is set to 20 degrees when the heating is on. New build and a high spec, which isn't a boast, just meant the builders went way beyond statutory regulations when the house was built.

Worked today, LSD, stuffed peppers with halloumi salad for tea, ran 4.5 miles.
