No spending from September to December.......

calzone · 15/08/2016 14:41

Decided to try this from 1 September.

To save money I'm only shopping in Lidl on Saturdays with a proper list and a meal plan.....

Only food and petrol to go on credit card.

By that time, boys should both be kitted out for school and none of us need anything.

I go to SW and will be going to a keep fit thing but that's it. No coffees out or junk food....

Anyone want to join me?

Yes please, me. Things I anticipate buying are food, petrol, car related stuff eg tyres etc, err and that's it really I think.

AnthonyPandy · 15/08/2016 20:19

Just us two then Grin.

ShellSuitonBonfireNight · 15/08/2016 20:30

I NEED to do this. I've been a bit "relaxed" with the spending recently so I need to reign it back again.

JenLindley · 15/08/2016 20:33

I'll tentatively join! Are we talking Sept, Oct, Nov or December too? I can do sept, oct, Nov but December will involve spending.

JenLindley · 15/08/2016 20:33

Also been far to frivolous recently and am now seriously skint.

ImperialBlether · 15/08/2016 20:35

What about Christmas presents?

needastrongone · 15/08/2016 20:38

Have you seen the frugal thread in this section? It rolls over month to month. Everyone there on a budget, for various reasons. Tons of advice and support.

Good luck.

ginorwine · 15/08/2016 22:37

Good thinking !
I'm in 😄
I think it will be liberating ( as well as practical ! )

Grumpyoldblonde · 16/08/2016 12:42

I'm in too please, been extravagant this summer and my s/e work has died down, hopefully just for the summer, and OH is on crap pay in a temp contract so we need to tighten our belts drastically. All uniform is bought, Christmas won't be usual extravaganza of frivolity this year and I need to rein in my wine buying.
I am actually pretty worried about how we pay the bill in a couple of months so I need to be really, really careful.

CharleyDavidson · 16/08/2016 12:51

I like the sound of this.
I have a gym membership that I won't cancel, but I go 4-5 times a week to get my use out of it. And I already have the majority of my Christmas presents and dds birthday present for Oct.

JenLindley · 16/08/2016 13:13

Oh bollocks! I forgot about buying school uniforms!! We've only two weeks to go until back to school. Shit.

AnthonyPandy · 16/08/2016 15:33

Can I add to my list of stuff to buy other than food and petrol? (This is how it runs away with you, isn't it?!)
Car stuff
Clothes for 6th form ie suit etc
Two more things that I might get myself for Christmas (I always buy myself a present).

HollyBollyBooBoo · 16/08/2016 15:40

Love this idea! Having just spent £120 on some new workwear I genuinely don't need anything now so I am definitely doing this!

AgentJ · 16/08/2016 15:46

Whaaaat? But what about Christmas? I'm cool with this but only if I can spend endless amounts get Christmas presents Grin

skibeauty · 17/08/2016 17:05

I will join but obviously need to spend in December, I seriously need to stop spending on random things, I went out today for some potatoes and spent £34. I'm going back to work after maternity part time so I can't spend like I do anymore and we are having just one joint account now so I can't keep buying everything!

calzone · 17/08/2016 17:13

Yes of course you can spend at Xmas.

I don't celebrate Xmas so hadn't factored that in anyway!!

Boys need Astros and football boots for school plus ds1 needs a new school bag......will get that next week when we're back from hols.

I'm in. The only clothes I will need to buy are tights. I have none. Because I threw them all out in April.

Tryingtosaveup · 18/08/2016 09:38

I'm in after this weekend as I am taking DGD away for a few days, but after that I'm in.

Monkendrunky · 20/08/2016 21:09

Urgh im in.
I need some kind of motivation to get some self control!!

Ememem84 · 20/08/2016 22:35

Ok from now I'm in. Except for tights. I'm selling things on eBay and don't need any new things. Have lovely clothes which will
See me through until at least Spring.

GingerbreadGingerbread · 20/08/2016 22:40

I really want to do this- what about socialising though where does that fit in? Are we allowed the odd night out?

Cinnamal · 20/08/2016 22:51

I'm in! Overdrawn after holidays and have a baby on the way so want to save some cash with the aim of having a year of mat leave. My car needs a service, and school shoes need to be bought, but apart from that I need to save save save.

timeforabrewnow · 21/08/2016 09:07

Every month I think 'Right - just food and petrol to go on the credit card' - but other bits and bobs always seem to creep on there.

Yes - I'm in, as we seem to have spent rather a lot on summer holiday (would need a whole other thread for that one Confused )

milkmilklemonade12 · 21/08/2016 09:13

Yes definitely in! I do want to reign it in a bit before Christmas; to be honest just being a bit more organised will help. Coffees/meal deal type lunches are where I'm going wrong I think.

I do have some things booked up (birthdays, 2 weddings, nights out) that I will have to honour obviously but the majority of those are already paid for (wedding guest outfits, meals paid for on per head basis already etc). I'm not worried about that, it's when I walk out of sainsburys mid-week £50 lighter and wondering how that happened that needs to stop!

Grapefruit8 · 21/08/2016 09:14

Yes I need to do this! I must must must save before my Mat leave commences in December!
