Spent so much this week, next sale, Amazon prime, new drill and strimmer, hair cut and loads of bits in tesco. Hoping I can be pretty much spend free for the rest of the month.

I've started bullet journaling and plan to have several finance related collections.

Badders123 · 14/07/2016 15:35

Just spent £10 on uniform for ds2 in aldi
Never bought from there before but for that £10 I got;
6 polo shirts
10 pairs sock
6 pairs of boxers
Am VERY impressed with the price...we shall see what the quality is like next term!!
Spent £120 in the next same though Blush
Bought loads - some of which may go back

lilacclery · 14/07/2016 15:42

badders I gave a friend €30 to purchase 2 pinafores, 9 pairs of tights, 2 pairs of trousers for dd in the aldi school uniform promotion today. Tremendous value, as you say we'll see what the quality is like.

em your holidays in France sound ideal. I've been in Paris once and wasn't keen. We holidayed 3 years ago in Carantec near Roscoff and this was a lovely campsite holiday which inspired our Haven holiday in Scotland this year.

creme you must look and feel like a new woman, hope you've a fabulous holiday

lilacclery · 14/07/2016 15:55

what interested in hearing how your bullet journaling goes, it sounds like a lot of extra work but probably when you get the system going it makes things easier.

Whataboutwhathuh · 14/07/2016 16:00

I'm quite enjoying sitting with my book and pens in the evening. I often wrote to do lists and meal plans never to see them again. I've got some master lists to stop having to re write things. The copying things is designed to make you think about tasks and whether they are of value. If you keep migrating tasks you either do the task or strike it as something that isn't going to happen.

ipsogenix · 14/07/2016 17:00

Sorry to hear that you're under the weather Cag. Glad you're getting a bit of time to rest.

I've made some progress getting quotes to have my garden fixed. The first quote was £3000 + VAT for a patio and the second was £1300. That's a big difference isn't it?

northender · 14/07/2016 17:11

Thank you for the new shiny thread.
fluffy great news, good luck setting up the business.
babs ouch to the bee sting
unescorted sorry to hear about your job insecurity, there's a lot of it about at the moment. I hope things work out for you.
tayto I didn't find my passport so have had to spend £80 on a new one, boo! I'm just thankful I found out now so should have time to get the new one in time for our holiday and there was less than a year left on the old one.
We love Northern France. This year will be our 6th in Brittany as we all love it so much. We're going further afield next year but for this year, Brittany it is.
Frugal win on my home insurance renewal. Existing provider quoted £178, I managed to get better cover for £96 with £42 cash back through tcb.
Another personal trainer session today which felt so hard but good in that I can really see the progress I'm making.

Girliefriendlikesflowers · 14/07/2016 17:30

Hi all, can't believe you are on a new thread without me!!

So still have no internet despite the bt man coming out to fix it today Angry am at my mums having a quick catch up on all the essentials (fb, mn and emails Grin)

Hope you are all well, the new house is lurrrrrvely, so pleased with it Smile gave the keys back on the flat today which was weird but nice also found out dd has got a place at the local village school so am really pleased about that.

Money wise doing better than I thought which is a relief, the first mortgage repayment was much less than I had anticipated and the rent part i pay on the 50% I don't own doesn't come out until August which is basically a month for free!! So still need to be careful but am not on the breadline yet either!!

Am missing you all, not got time to catch up properly but hope you are all well Flowers

Cagliostro · 14/07/2016 17:57

Yay Girlie! (Well except for lack of internet - BOOOO to that) Glad you are settling in :)

OP posts:
Tryingtosaveup · 14/07/2016 18:15

Hello Girlie, glad you are settling in. BT are the worst company in the world. Took me months to get my wifi sorted when I moved here. It's a village and it's BT or nothing.
Hope you get it fixed soon.
What....never heard of bullet journaling.....what is it?
Plumber was supposed to come today but cancelled til next week. So to make up I had to have a coffee and chocolate bar...£5.70....plumber's fault!

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/07/2016 18:34

North Well done, that is proper frugalling. Our home insurance is due next month

Girlie Bb always takes ages. BT are awful to deal with.

£14 scalpel blades for work
£5 aldi
£130 sweet squared for cnd shellac stuff. You have to buy the proper stuff or your not insured. Our trainer gave us a shopping list, what to get in which size and which products you can use non cnd stuff from but still off sweet squared so it's legit and which colours are popular with clients so we don't order loads and waste money. She is frugal too.

babsmam · 14/07/2016 18:46

LSD today - £5 in morrisons. My first aid course was in a supermarket complex and could have been dangerous but thankfully wasn't.
forgot about the Yorkshire show need. sorry you guys didn't do so well, hope the lame pony is better soon.
fluffster sounds like your teacher is really savvy which is good for you.
creme have a good holiday.

we have never camped /stayed in France but always looked at it. i'm not sure where to start tbh area wise.

Em hope your day is going OK and you are not too shattered.
Girlie - fleeting Hi. pleased the house is working out. good luck getting the internet back we miss you too.
GWS cag, hope you manage to get some rest.

think thats everyone, sorry if ive missed you i dont mean to but trying to do a world record catch up.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 14/07/2016 18:47

We have brought aldi last couple years along with sainabury and prices are pretty comparable when sains do 25% off is 2 jumpers £3 and aldi is £1.25 each.

My opinion iis they are good for the money n we have brought 2 jumpoers n 2 trousers again this yr, the jumpers keep their shape they look more faded than others, my on!y don't buy iis pe shorts they are see through!!

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 14/07/2016 18:54

Now I have a possible frugal win that could help others

Have you studied full time for at least an academic yr since 1999 and been employed at the same time even if work seconded you - well when a full to e student your tax allowance iis more (around £15,000) and most people would have been on their normal tax code so there us this widening access schemne where you can claim back you can apply direct t to hmrc or some employers have a hr rep dealing with it - I am NHS so we have hr person at end of every mth ours go to payroll who we d to hr who send to hmrc and then that's it til a cheque arrives colleague did it took 4mths and she got £2.5k cheque iin post as it's tax and ni owed!! I did mine this mth so sitting g and waiting as I did a post grad degree full time seconded by my employer in 2005/6. Its not something being shouted about and is literally one person telling another and equally people like me and aforementioned colleague thinking we were not entitled as we were paid full salary but its not to do with that criteria iia full time course for one academic year. Google widening access scheme

Ememem84 · 14/07/2016 19:11

Completely shattered. But now enjoying free prosecco in the lounge. Yippee.

lilacclery · 14/07/2016 19:45

Wow east that's great news hope you get a nice sum back.

CremeEggThief · 14/07/2016 21:17

Glad to hear all is going well with the new house, Girlie. We've missed youSmile.

Further spends: £2.20 on a doughnut and latte from Greggs (yum!), £410.76 on 460€ (not so good) and £13.80 on takeaway pizzas, chips and drinks.

CremeEggThief · 14/07/2016 21:18

Oh and £10 in Primark.

Fluffycloudland77 · 14/07/2016 21:25

£2500! I hope you get a payout too east

ipsogenix · 14/07/2016 21:33

Well done Girlie, that's great. Especially good to hear about the school place too. Enjoy your new home.

We're counting down to the school holidays here, which is kind of exciting, and kind of scary, since it means no time off for me for 6 weeks. There's a new park opening nearby, so we're hoping that will be good. I'm enjoying this not-too-hot weather, and hoping it keeps going. Does anybody have frugal school holiday plans?

Tryingtosaveup · 14/07/2016 21:52

Ipso, I am going to do the free library challenge with my DGCs and the local museums and swimming, although that is not free. They like picnics in the park...in fact that is probably their favourite.
And cooking.

blueteapot · 14/07/2016 22:00

East fingers crossed for a payout!

Girlie glad you got DD into the local school, bet thats a weight off for you :) we had BT in a rental flat once and I hate to say it but they werent great unfortunately

Em I am jealous of your free prosecco!!

Fluffy congrats on the nail course, I bite mine terribly as a nervous habit but would love to grow them out and have them properly done.

Ipso SILs large patio was around the 2k mark. I think it depends on what you choose stones wise

£20 on the gardener today, money well spent. Otherwise a NSD. Poor DS is ill (D&V). I was off today anyway so it has been a long one watching repeat after repeat of pixar movies on netflix lol. Bit gross but he did a horrible big loose poo in his nappy earlier in our bed which soaked all the way through to the mattress. I have scrubbed and scrubbed but theres still a smell to the patch of mattress, have just put bicarb on it to hoover off tomorroq to see if it helps - any other ideas? Steamer maybe?

Cagliostro · 14/07/2016 22:24

Frugal fail, another £100 shop ordered with lots of junk food and little planning! Blush

OP posts:
ItalianWiking84 · 14/07/2016 22:36

Blue, my Indonesian mil uses lime and salt to get pretty much all stains and smells of clothes. I now use that trick as well and it does miracles. It can't be table salt tho but needs to be the bigger flags of salt; sorry don't know the English word Blush but we call it groft salt.

lilacclery · 14/07/2016 23:17

Hi girlie great to hear from you & glad all is well

Used my frugaleering skills this evening buying diesel with my loyalty card I get 2c off per litre. I had budgeted €25 for diesel. Purchased 22.5 litres which totalled €25.46 less 2c by 22 leaves 25.02 but if you pay cash here you benefit from rounding so that was €25 exactly so just under half a litre from free Grin

Spent €35.35 in Lidl on part of the weekly shop must do list for the rest.
Got a sneaky quarter bottle of red & enjoying it a teeny weeny glass of it now in bed

Tomo our bosses are out all day so my friend is treating us to scones for morning tea break, we'll get a deli counter lunch & I'll treat us to ice creams/buns for our evening tea break approx spends €8-€10 this happens once a year SmileCakeWink

I can't think of a witty title, so here is July's Frugaleer Thread! All welcome.
